  1. I don't deny that the intentions behind the making of this video might be a concern towards how obsessed we've become with the alliances we've formed with our favorite Jathebandis, which is fine. What I don't get is what was the need to portray the usual chores of a GurSikh in a way thats almost close to mockery? Its almost hypocritical because the same people who have their pants on fire each time a Hindu/Muslim makes fun of a Sardar are actually enjoying all this. Don't get me wrong, I am all for humor, but these kind of videos give me an impression of a person (like myself) who probably isn't at a level where he could actually abide by all the Rehits that he tries to make a joke out of. I read through the Singh's clarification rant as well. Good points, well said, however nothing justifies this kind of video. Not only it gives non-Sikhs encouragement to further shoot videos mocking Sikhs (and now may be even Sikh chores), it puts forward the impression that Sikhs themselves mock their faith, they are probably frustrated with what their religion teaches and so they are venting it out by making such videos. I personally found it offensive towards all the 4 kinds of Sikhs he portrayed, including those missionaries who utter nothing but manure. Rather than responding to the venomous propaganda of the missionaries, why mock them? Doesn't it make us look weak and ignorant to answer their questions? Gives them an excuse as well to further taunt us. Why do I say this? Because unlike you guys I was once a non-Sikh, and if I was a non-Sikh today and saw such a video, the first thing I'd probably do is show this to all Sikhs I knew and tell them how their own folks are mocking their faith, and would enjoy the sight of embarrassment on their faces. So guys, just a reminder, the Sikhi saroop you carry around with you is not just you, its the representation of the entire Khalsa Panth. Every move you make will be remembered by everyone who sees you. People will forget your face, your name, but will remember what you did and will tell 100 others as to what they saw a Sardar do. Likewise, people will forget this guy's name and face, they will forget all the actions he did and the stuff he said. What they will always remember is they saw a Sikh mock Sikhism, no matter how much you try to justify that it was done in good spirits and light mood. Here is a response to his video... Its one thing to laugh at oneself, but something else to become the laughing stock for the world. So please be careful and choose wisely. For those who enjoyed it, I respect your opinions as well, so no further arguments from my side. Just remember one thing, next time a Hindu/Muslim makes fun of a Sardar, I will be reminding you your laughter towards this video. And I repeat, I am not going to argue with anyone over this. If you enjoyed it, if it made you laugh, I am happy for you. May Guru Sahib always keep you happy, smiling and laughing.

  2. Personally I find that the abridged version recited at Sr Harmander Sahib lacks Rass. I prefer to read the Taksal maryada Rehras. There is Nanaksar and NIhang Singh maryada which is also full of ras. Whenever I have to listen to the abridged version I always feel a sense of emptiness whereas the longer versions make me feel more elated. Waheguru.

  4. Hsisingh Rather than bring out technicalies just accept that you know zilch about the rehat maryada on a Sikh marriage otherwise you wouldn't have made the idiotic statement that you did, that if one of the couple is a Sikh then they can marry in a Gurdwara. Those Gianis and Pardhans who have allowed the marriage to go ahead probably share the same idiotic beliefs as you.

  5. I understand its panthic masla..we are looking at things form parampara stand point and like to preserve it. .that is fine But having no ras from shorten rehras sahib..i m sorry to say singh that's your perception, whatever your perception is that's what it appears or get or thats what you become. If someone wants to get ras from full rehras or small rehras only (be it small or long or even one line one word) they will..!!

  6. when you use ACTUAL gurbani / gurmantra then the setting becomes real to a sikh. the singh could have put across his points in another way, without mixing gurbani and gurmantra with jest.

  8. Singh Ji, if we keep Vedas out of this topic it would be better. I do not understand why Shankara’s version of Vedant is supported and not any other’s commentary on Upnishds. Shankara’s Vedant has been refuted by some Hindu scholars as well and its whole concept is monistic, other worldly and impersonal. If you can explain any fundamental similarities between Vedant and Gurmat in a separate topic, it would be enlightening. So far I have found more fundamental differences and found Vedant to be an empty talk. It lacks experience of the Higher Reality. God in Vedant is impersonal, inactive, attributeless and not interested in any part of life. The world of Vedant is an illusion and not real. Ideal human of Vedant has no active role or social responsibility towards the world. All these are completely opposite from Gurmat. Please read books by Dasgupta and Radhakrishnan to understand a little about six philosophies. Then read books by Bhai Randhir Singh and Bhai Veer Singh. To keep one mindset is not progressive. Sure there is a lot of vidiya in sampardas but it is not the end of it and there have been and are many eminent historians and scholars who explain Gurmat and Sikh history beautifully. You should broaden your scope of study to get a comprehensive understanding. Sampardas lack this greatly which is why they are falling behind. I am well aware of negatives of Singh Sabha especially Bhasaur but even Bhasaur DIwan made good headway in the beginning. They advocated Punjabi, administered Amrit to women and stopped many empty rituals. Later on, in an attempt to “purify” Sikhism, Teja Singh went too far and committed many mistakes. Nobody denies this fact. You can open a separate topic to discuss “negative contribution” of Singh Sabha and I will be happy to learn the facts. I have already mentioned some books to you. Please read those and evaluate the evidence presented. I do not think non-Sikhs can do full justice to Sikh religion and its history. Myself being from Taksali background, all I heard was anti-Singh Sabha remarks but only against Teja Singh. Overtime, when I engaged in independent study I leaned that not everything Taksal says is true and they only focus on one aspect. In the end, we are all part of the same Panth and should never put any jatha before Gurmat and the Panth. Unfortunately, this is not the attitude of most groups today and much time is being spent in criticizing and pointing fingers. I too do wish that one day all groups are united in one rehat and work towards chardi kala of the Panth. Guru Rakha

  9. "harman1990" ji, are you suggesting that reading the 6 paurees of Anand Sahib during Rehraas or 10 swaiays from Akal Ustat during Nitnem, or the first Pauree of Vaar Sri BHagautee Ji Ki during Ardaas is an insult? Do you read the entire 40 paurees of Anand Sahib while reciting Rehraas Sahib, or just 6 paurees? Do you read all the 270+ paurees of Akal Ustat while reciting your Nitnem Swaiay, or just 10 swaiays? Do you read the entire Chandi-di-Vaar during Ardaas, or just the first pauree? According to your logic you should read them in entirety because that is how they were written by Guru Sahib. We need to think twice before making such proclamations and attacking others.

  11. Please refer to this picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gaganskhalsa/6976315494/in/set-72157629546114134 This Beerh is from 1755 Bikrami, 1698 AD, one year before the creation of the Khalsa. It is currently at Takhat Sri Patna Sahib. The Bani Zafarnamaa is not included in it as it was written 6 years after this Beerh was compiled in 1704 AD.

  12. I've followed one bit of advice which hit me hard when I heard it. Anytime you feel like kaam is about to strike, imagine Guru Ji is watching every move you make. Would you really do anything like that in-front of Guru Ji? I find that puts paid to any dodgy desires. I was amazed why nobody had ever put it like that beforehand. :biggrin2:

  13. Overall i think type of food we eat does have some impact on our mind that's why usually sants prefer satoguni (simple diet - dal/roti) diet as mehtab singh mentioned above. I have done test myself. I have eaten satoguni food then sit on meditation - i can concentrate better compare to sitting in meditation after eating rajoguni food. Also many would be surprised but actually there are different diets for ghristi and different diets for behingumas(celibate) in the panth. The one who have taken celibacy to serve the panth they avoid garlic as it increase sexual desire as mentioned earlier. Off course everything is in mind but its proven fact whatever we eat has effect on mind.. Sun Singh veer can shed more light on this matter.

  14. Nothing against Sikhi to use Garlic. In fact, Garlic just makes the langar taste better and it's good for the body. Why should we stop using Garlic or Onion? as long as meat is not used no need to create a fuss over Garlic. Naam Simran has enough shakti to counter the effects of any rajoguni or tamoguni good if that's what garlic is. We just need to have faith in Naam and follow Guru Jee's hukams.

  15. Saints usually avoid any kind of taddka in their diet. Its known from Gyani Thakur Singh jee's katha that Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale used to have daal with just haldee and salt. Having said that, the basic point is to NOT be a slave to the tongue's tastes, and at the same time, a Sikh isn't fanatical about avoiding onions/garlic just because some Hindu school of thought considers it unclean. You guys will be surprised, one of my buzurg relatives (non-Sikh) I met in India last month had a bad impression about their local Gurdwara because they add garlic to the food. I said Sikhi has no such prohibition on garlic. He said even Hindus don't have a prohibition per say, but what he said next was shocking. "Lassan Musalmaan aa", probably referring to the fact that garlic excites one's lower energies (i.e. enhances your sexual appetite) and the Mughals were well known for their lustful crimes against non-Muslim bibiyaan back in their days. Anyways, what I found hilarious was labeling food items in a communal fashion. Whats next? Aloo Hindu aa? Tamatar Jain aa? Chholley Sikh aa? How wonderful if we all could co-exist in the sabji mandi of this world!

  16. At first I liked this video but after reading Mahtab Singh Jee's post I have to agree with him. Listen to the Baba on that video posted by Mahtab Singh. We can't make videos like this because it will not only be non Amritdhari Sikhs who see this but even Hindus and Muslims who will see this and think look at how $tupid Sikhi is. I certainly wouldn't want a non Amritdhari or a non Sikh to see this video and get the wrong impression.
