  1. It's kinda like when you annoy someone to get a reaction out of them. If the person doesn't react, then you get bored and leave them alone. So when Muslims go crazy and say "Don't insult our prophet, or else you will die!", what do you think people are gonna do? They're gonna go ahead and insult their prophet, just to rub it in their faces. So, if someone were to insult our Guru Sahiban like this, we should object PEACEFULLY. Attacking embassies and killing a man who had nothing to do with the production of the film, does nothing to bolster your "Religion of Peace" assertion.

  2. We have a thread on Sikh Sangat that states 'What would we do if Sikhs were insulted' . Well this Ram Rahim does it everyday and apart from a few ordinary Sikhs who have opposed him like these brave Singhs most have stayed quiet. We have bold statements that some claim they are warriors and want to run the Akal takht but stay silent when the Guru Sahibs are insulted by the DSS. Whilst the Badal clan which run most of the Sikhs Institutions/organisations have openly tried to include him as an ally. These Singhs must be helped. http://www.deccanher...10-year-ri.html

  5. Fair point, but look at it the other way also. Selectively attacking countries under the guise of 'human rights' and 'democracy' and making out like you are some paragon of virtue/ethics when your real intention is to grab dwindling natural resources for you own advantage - and causing the deaths of God knows how many innocent men, women and children in the process isn't much better. That <banned word filter activated> feeds and fuels fundamentalism as much as certain whites/westerners like to pretend otherwise.

  6. Western countries have the mafia. In Punjab, we have baabeh. Politicians suck up to them because Baabeh can guarantee them votes. If Ram Rahim tells his sheep that Badal is the best candidate, then all the sheep will say "Baaaaahhhh".

  7. Ghatak, http://www.hazursahib.com/ Best place to stay is Sachkhand Complex (rooms on Parikarma, and 1 room is sufficient for 5-6 people), but if full, NRI complex, Punjab Bhavan etc. are also there. 1 day taxi trip to Bidar Nanak Jheera Sahib, and 1 day taxi trip to local Gurudwara (again taxi/bus required), look on the web site above. DELHI ===== Gurudwara Seesh Ganj Sahib, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, Gurudwara Moti Bagh Sahib, Gurudwara Nanak Piao, Gurudwara Bala Sahib & any local Singh Sabha Gurudwara . Any body to add more Delhi Gurudwaras, please do so . I think accomodation is available in Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. Amritsar ====== I don't how many days you stay there, but take 1 day taxi-trip to surronding Gurudwara such as GovindVaal Sahib (there are 2-3 Gurudwara in GovindVaal, 1 is main Gurudwara and there are another 2 Gurudwara just in 2 mins walking distance), Tarantaran Sahib, Baba Buddha Jee Gurudwara, San Wal Gurudwara etc. If instead of train from Amritsar to Delhi, you come by road, you can also visit Sirhind (Chotte Sahibzaade Shaaheedi Gurudware), and some other Gurudwares on the way. Gur Fateh and enjoy your trip.

  8. There needs to be a deeper study of the background of this event as we simultaneously substitute ourselves in this situation. Firstly, the person who the FBI has finally tracked down as the main perpetrator is an Egyptian Coptic Christian (and not an Israeli Jew). These are among the largest Arab Christian group in the Middle East, upto 10% of the Egyptian population who are regularly persecuted by the Muslims there. Now, no community has been persecuted by the Sikhs in the past or present and I doubt it will ever happen in future. Sikhs are a minority, but even if we were a majority and in power, our Gurmat principles forbid us to oppress anyone. Secondly, this video was made by someone who hates Hazrat Muhammad Sahib based on his knowledge of their history and teachings. Our Guru Sahibaan didn't practice or preach oppression towards non-Sikhs, in fact quite contrary to it they stood up for their rights and made unimaginable sacrifices. Anyone who merely reads Their history would know it, therefore the chances of someone feeling any sort of animosity towards the personality of Guru Sahib are very grim, no matter even if they didn't fully agree with Their teachings. Thirdly, wherever Sikhs have gone, they have been a contributing segment of that country's society, be it economically, politically, socially etc. Muslims (not all) haven't really created that sort of a positive image in Western society yet, sorry to say. This further gives birth to the notion that the community is a menace and so such cheap attempts will be made by haters to degrade them. Fourthly, we need to be clear about our political past. Sikh freedom struggle (also called militancy) can never be compared to Islamic extremism. The Jujharoo Singhs never targeted an entire community. Whoever they targeted, it wasn't just because the person was non-Sikh but because he was a tyrant. They didn't take their fight beyond the borders of Punjab or India for that matter. The Air India disaster was a tragedy but it has come to light that it was an act carried out by those who wanted to defame the entire Sikh community abroad. Islamic extremists on the other hand target innocent non-Muslim communities at any part of the planet. This further builds up hate for all Muslims worldwide just because of the actions of a few misled individuals. Fifth and last point is the life and teachings of the Guru Sahibaan, the message of Gurbani and the general Sikh attitude. Anyone who comes across the updesh of Gurbani will always sense that its a universal message of love. I am not sure if the same can be said about what the common non-Muslim knows about Islam. The lifetimes of the Guru Sahibaan further add to the priceless teachings of Gurmat which is again reflective of universal love. On the other hand you have the Hadith which gives the world a different opinion about Hazrat Muhammad Sahib. Sikhs welcome everyone to the Gurdwara Sahib but non-Muslims (per Islamic principle) cannot enter a mosque, which again makes us a community more open to outsiders. I personally doubt that a Hindu or even a Muslim would make such a video on Guru Sahib no matter how much he/she hates Sikhs, because the lives and teachings of Guru Sahib would make him/her think a million times about how much love and compassion Guru Sahib had for all of humanity. So lets be definite about one thing, people don't really have a whole lot to hate us for. Whether its our history, philosophy, politics or just our general social set up. In the case of Muslims its a totally different story. Vaheguru forbid, if anyone ever dares to make such a video, Sikhs will be wise enough to realize that any violent step taken by them will only tarnish their image worldwide. I remember watching the video of a gora who committed a hate crime against a Sikh and was given punishment to perform community service at a Gurughar. Later on he came on the Gurdwara stage, apologized for his misdeed, and expressed how delighted he was to have now come across Sikhs and Gurmat updesh. Very recently another gori bibi apologized for having thrown away some Sikh-related pamphlets at a store. So pyaareyo, we are such a loving qaum that no matter how much bad someone does to us, if it is done out of misinformation, we have a heart big enough to forgive and educate, thereby bringing the other person on their knees and asking for forgiveness. That is something massive! Yes, we also kill, but we kill the hate in the person's mind, not the person itself. There are several other such examples. Having said all that, it still doesn't give anyone the right to hurt/offend anyone's religious sentiments, and I hope and pray that (1.) Sikhs don't have to go through such a painful experience, and (2.) Sikhs don't react in this manner. Just my opinions. Please feel free to correct me. Thanks

  11. When I started simran I was shocked at the amount of stuff that comes floating up! lol Don't break your simran, try and 'let go' of the thought so that it floats away like a wisp of smoke. In my case another (seemingly random) furna seems to pop up shortly after. I was advised not to fight these thoughts but to let them disappear - you can help this process by refocusing on your mantar or breathing. The thought usually disappears after a few moments. Actually I love some practical, tried and tested tips on focusing by veteran simraners. Please share.

  12. Absolutely agree. This has been on my mind for quite a bit. When the "rise" does happen then we will be in the cross-hairs, make no mistake about that. So before that time comes it's time to shape up and cut out the crap that has crept into our mentality. We must be ruthless in ensuring our faith is not misrepresented, because hearing some of the stuff even from mainstream places (talk-shows, phone-ins, etc) regarding Islam and its adherents I begin to imagine myself in their situation, and if something similar was being said about Sikhi it would cut me to the core.

  14. There are a lot of demented people about. Count yourself lucky that you haven't come across this stuff. It exists. Personally I no longer click on any links that look like they are going to something like this. One thing very commonly used to ridicule Sikhi is the Sikh roop. Some narrow minded people think it looks ridiculous and we all know people have even started very popular facebook groups along this line. I'm not going to mention much of the other stuff I've (sadly) come across - but you do need to wake up a bit brother. Stop being so naive. Just to give you some brief (tame!) examples of what you can expect (just to keep you knowledgeable) - people have insulted Baba Nanak as someone who deserted his family, the traditional Baba Deep Singh narrative as a ridiculous miracle, Sikh roop making people look like apes etc. etc. Don't underestimate people's capacity to be malicious. Christians say 'know people by their fruits' - i.e. by what they do. And as you've alluded too our lot have the whole repertoire of female infanticide, alcohol, loose women, casteism - not to mention that you can usually find at least one 'sardar' at many backward ancient Indic ceremonies/rituals. People aren't focused on us right now because we are 'small fry' - if we ever rise (maybe I should say when we rise), in my opinion it's likely that we some people around us will criticise our society and values - just because people are often j-erks like that.

  16. Just a small benti to admin/mods.... this thread should be sticky in general section for maximum exposure. What's missing among sikh youths these days is this deep insane not so politically correct love towards Guru Sahib- divine sargun embodiment of Vahiguroo ji, which is expressed in this soul wrenching poetry of bhai nand lal ji. I plan to sit one day, read this thread and cry my heart out for satguru gobind singh ji maharaj..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope admin push this thread in general section for maximum exposure for sake of better good for sikhs..!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. when i came into sikhi i was alone for a long time b/c i had no sikh friends from my pre-sikhi life and there were no sikhs in any of my classes. now, i have the opportunity to do seva at a gurdwara where i can meet many singhs. i feel that the years when i was alone were preparing me, making me stronger so that i could stand loneliness. the truth is that bhagti marag is a lone path, nobody walks it with you except your Guru. my advice is, instead of focusing on find friends, focus on doing seva and building up your jeevan. if you volunteer at either sikh or non-sikh organisations, you may meet other people. but if meeting people isn't your main focus this will help take the pressure off. build yourself up for your job and jeevan, this will probably make you much happier and stronger in the long run. channel that loneliness into meeting maharaj.

  21. YouTube has an option called "response to video". Make responsive videos condemning the one made and educate the masses about reality. Off late I've realized that its best to use the weapons of your enemies against them, which mostly applies to the media. I am not sure how many of you have been reading user comments under the news articles about the Wisconsin Gurdwara incident. You have enough Hindus highlighting Sikh Jujharoos as terrorists and trying to put forward the notion that "Sikhs are as bad as Muslims". I say we use this negative publicity as well and highlight what the Indian government did to us in 1984. Thats the point I am trying to make, we need to turn the tables and use our enemy's weapons against them. If they use YouTube to degrade Sikhi, we use it to glorify it. If they use Facebook, Twitter, or whatever, use it to respond to them without stooping to their level by using insults/swears but by providing factual evidences. The only way to shut such people up is slap them with the truth. If they continue to moan and whine, then quit arguing because their IQ isn't worth it and they'e already proved themselves to be fools. But until then, keep up the fight with the pen, use knowledge as your deadliest weapon and use their weapons (YouTube, Facebook etc.) against them, not to harm, but to educate or shut them up. This will show the world that violence is not our way (unless we're pushed with our backs against the wall), rather we're sane and wise enough to fight fiction/myth with facts. We don't set fire to embassies, we burn ignorance at its root and the world needs to see that.

  24. Vairaag is de-attachment. Being sad or depressed is just one form of vairaag. Vairaag in its totality is de-attachment from this illusory world/maya-five elements of body/individualistic mind. Tyag is inter-related with Viaraag as well as sunsingh point out above. It's fine and dandy to have inner vairaag but in action-your inner vairaag should appear naturally in form of tyag. Tyag is renunciation.

  25. Gurfateh JI, the 5 choor are in full flow and are trying to supress us all. It is important to realise the strength of Kaljug and the 5 that are floating around us constantley. Some Chardi Kala Mahapursh even used to do a Jap Ji Shaib path as soon as they would wake up before doing isnan as they never used to give the 5 a chance to attack ... after isnan they would do their full nitnem .... waheguru... I think sometimes we all under estimate the power of kaljug, however if we constantley keep the name of waheguru on our lips and mind these 5 can never touch us... Yes.. alot easier said than done but so is a degree at Uni or some of the jobs we do but yet again we manage to get these all done.
