  2. sat sri akal ji, I am new to this site. So i would like to discuss a query related to the shape of the turban wore by sikh brothers at the present era of time. As we all are aware of today's style of wearing turban as there are various shapes and styles of wearing it. So, being a youth a question arises in my mind that 'which is the actual style and shape of the turban ordained by sikh gurus ?' And are we following that ? I searched a number of turban training tutorials on web, and mostly all the results were showing the modern style dastaar which is also called 'Thokvi Pagg'. On the contrary, when we take a look at pictures of our sikh gurus they are not wearing the turban which is being wore by today's generation, instead they are wearing round turban. So don't you think that we are neglecting the shape of turban which our guru sahibs used to wear ? See the attachment also. PLEASE DO REPLY. Sat Sri akal... Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh please have a look of this picture and think

She is the Mother of the Khalsa Panth and the Sri Mati Jee of Sahib E Kamaal Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj. Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia wore a Mughal Style Dastar because Delhi was under heavy Mughal influece at the time. If what he was doing was bad, I have no doubt Mata Jee would have stopped him. The Dastar style doesn't really matter as far as I know. Tie a Dastar that is clean in terms of dirt and in terms of Lars so that it looks nice. Don't just wrap a Chadar around your head cause that doesn't really count as a Dastar haha. Just my two cents. Anyone else? Bhul Chuk Muaaf Jee ਵਾਿਹਗੁਰੂਜੀਕਾਖਾਲਸਾਵਾਿਹਗੁਰੂਜੀਕੀਫਤਹ॥_/\_

  6. There is no specific type of dastar for Sikhs, but Gurbani does talk about an oocha dumalara. Original Akali Nihangs wore tall dastars, but towards the Misl period and when Sikh sardars began to gain victories they took the Afghani style dastar and refined it into the patiala shahi dastar and it has been evolving ever since. Personally I prefer dumalla, but mom and dad prefer me to tie a triangular dastar so I occasionally do tie nok patiala shahi (only blue)

  7. WJKK WJKF I would like to first of all congratulate you on walking the path of sikhi. I wish Akal Purakh showers you with gian. Secondly, I personally don't feel that the particular type or style of turban matters. Obviously certain groups or jathas have certain historical and traditional preferences however, I feel that it is more important for the brother or sister in honouring their turban with the way in which they follow their rehat and hold themselves within public. Any turban is physically and simply cloth, wrapped around the head to honour and protect the kesh in whatever style. The principal and meaning behind this cloth is more important, not the style. The issue you have raise reminds me of Dhan Dhan baba sheikh farids salok: ਫਰੀਦਾ ਮੈ ਭੋਲਾਵਾ ਪਗ ਦਾ ਮਤੁ ਮੈਲੀ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਇ ॥ Fareedhaa Mai Bholaavaa Pag Dhaa Math Mailee Hoe Jaae || फरीदा मै भोलावा पग दा मतु मैली होइ जाइ ॥ Fareed, I was worried that my turban might become dirty. My thoughtless self did not realize that one day, dust will consume my head as well. ||26|| WJKK WJKF

  8. Fateh . . . The confusion over the dates related to sikh historic events continues. I look at the Nanakshai Jantri at SGPC.net where it states that Vaisakhi is on 13th Apr 2014; where as other websites and other information reports this to be on the 14th Apr 2014 http://www.calendarlabs.com/calendars/religious/sikh-calendar.php Frustrating to the least; the world must be having at Sikhs who cant even agree on having an agreed date for their own events; let alone other matters. Divide and rule surely comes to mind. My rant for the day I guess. Fateh . . . .

  10. http://timesofindia....w/33552759.cms? UK open to Sikh as head of armed forces, judiciary: David Cameron Kounteya Sinha,TNN | Apr 10, 2014, 02.21 PM IST LONDON: British Prime Minister David Cameron has for the first time said that UK is open to having a Sikh as the head of its armed forces or as a chief justice in its judiciary. Hosting a Baisakhi celebration at 10 Downing Street, Cameron heaped high praise on "the hard working" Sikh community in UK and invited more from the community to enter British parliament. Referring to the "hard work so many Sikhs now do in our parliament," Cameron said "Not enough - I'm proud that we have in Paul Uppal a British Sikh on Conservative benches, Paul is here working hard, but we shouldn't rest until we see more British Sikhs on green benches and red benches, until we see more British Sikhs at the top of every one of our organisations - whether that is our army, or our judiciary - not because we should believe in tokenism, but because we believe, I believe, that we won't access the talent of our country unless we demonstrate that everyone from every background and faith can get to the top of any organization that they choose and that is so important for our country". According to Cameron, British Sikhs "have been an absolute model in terms of integrating into our communities and playing a role in our communities; whether it is in our armed forces, whether it is serving in government, whether it is working in business, whether it is representing us brilliantly on the cricket field, there's hardly an area of natural life where British Sikhs haven't made a huge impact". Cameron hosting the fourth Baisakhi party in 10 Downing Street also recalled the recent floods that devastated parts of UK. He said "We had people from across the country who had shown extraordinary public service in the floods earlier this year, and we had then Sikhs who had gone out of their way to travel across our country and help people, whether they were in Somerset, whether they were in the Thames Valley, whether they were in East Anglia, who needed help. "Serving the community, putting back into the community is something deep in the heart of all British Sikhs," he said. The Sikh vote bank will be a major factor in the next general election in UK in 2015. Britain's 2011 census says UK is home to nearly 4.3 lakh Sikhs of which 4.2 lakh live in England alone. The community is also very politically active. Around 3 in 4 Sikhs have voted in different elections in the last 4 years. Around 2 in 3 voted in the 2010 general elections.

  12. Dear ms514, By His grace, I am going to bring you forth the answer of your direct, valuable and a very nice question, through the Bani. Sree Guru Ram Das Maharaj, in His pure paviter Bani in Raag Maaroo, tells us: mai man tan khoj dhandholi-aa ki-o paa-ee-ai akath kahaanee. I have searched through and through, with my mind and body; but how can I attain, or find this (Nam)Unspoken Speech? Here, He is confirming us, that, He has heard a lot about the mahima of Nam, but alas, where to find it? Who knows about it? Who can show me the way to get and realize it? Some try to find it in books, others at temples or pilgrimages, others by "tap", by moortee pujas, others by fasting or torturing their bodies...etc...etc and etc Then in the next line, He Himself is giving us the answer, to this arised question. sant janaa mil paa-i-aa sun akath kathaa man bhaanee. Meeting with the humble Saints, I have found it; listening to the Unspoken Speech, my mind is pleased. With this line, that this Nam, is got as Gurparsad from the Saints, the Gurmukhs, as they come with the wealth of this very Nam, to distribute it freely, to those brave wadbhagees, who go to their shelter, without being bothered of their origin, or caste or creed, or the opinion of the world, as to what will the world say ...like he has become mad, has become a shame for our community, by going in the company of these "frauds" ......because that is how we people call those Gurmukhs.....not there are no frauds in the world, but just as we are narrow minded, and have limited the teachings of Gurmat within the 4 walls of our polluted minds, so we fail to recognize a Gurmukh, if any. But we can see, what Sree Guru Ram Das is telling us in the above 2 lines. Brothers, Gurmat is eternal. It is not meant for a particular period of time, or for a particular class, creed, caste or community ...it is a evergreen fountain for all the humanity. Whosoever drinks from it, shall have eternal life. And moreover, He says, by doing Nam Simran, the Anhad Bani is heard within ourselves, and the consequence of this is, that the mind is defeated. Hearing the Anhad Bani is equivalent to drinking the Amrit of Nam, the Nectar of Nam, within ourselves, made by Akal Purukh Himself. That Amrit, is the one our Guru Sahibans mention again and again in the Bani, the one which by having it, we become intoxicated with the true love for Wahiguru Akal Purukh. This Amrit the more we have it, the more we become pure and paviter. This Amrit, Wahiguru has kept in equal mesure within us, for each and everyone, without any discrimination of nationality or dharam, or limitations, all the 24 hours, unlike we humans do. The only requirement according to Guru Rm Das is to meet a Gurmukh, and get from Him, the Gurparsad, the bakshish, the bhed, the jugtee. All the Guru sahibans were Gurmukhs themselves. They came to be an example, for us humans, as per how to love Him and how to merge in Him So then what happens, once we listen to the Akath Katha, the Anhad Bani, the Shabad Dhun? As we become mature in the practice of Nam Simran, the mind is defeated. And once this is done, we shed all coverings and impurities from our souls, and then, we merge in Him, and become Him, such is the mahanta of His Nam. Attee Sundar Manmohan Pyaro.

  13. Could this be one of the reasons why paedophile gangs are allowed to flourish in the UK we have an issue of Police corruption? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/exclusive-scotland-yards-rotten-core-police-failed-to-address-endemic-corruption-9050224.html# Exclusive: Scotland Yard’s rotten core: Police failed to address ‘endemic corruption’ Organised crime infiltrated police ‘at will’, according to secret report. Top-level internal inquiry identified scores of corrupt individuals working for Met Tom Harper Thursday, 9 January 2014 Organised criminals were able to infiltrate Scotland Yard “at will” by bribing corrupt officers, according to an explosive report leaked to The Independent. The Metropolitan Police file, written in 2002, found Britain’s biggest force suffered “endemic corruption” at the time. Operation Tiberius concluded that syndicates such as the notorious Adams family and the gang led by David Hunt had bribed scores of former and then-serving detectives to access confidential databases; obtain live intelligence on criminal investigations; provide specialist knowledge of surveillance, technical deployment and undercover techniques to help evade prosecution; and even take part in criminal acts such as mass drug importation and money laundering. The strategic intelligence scoping exercise – “ratified by the most senior management” at Scotland Yard – found murder investigations had been infiltrated and sensitive intelligence regarding other organised crime investigations had been leaked, allowing the offenders to escape justice. The author lamented the Met’s inability to root out the problem. More worryingly, he also appeared to question Scotland Yard’s commitment to tackle organised crime corruption in the ranks. “For whatever reason, the current approach is simply to wait for the corruption intelligence to surface and to then react to it,” Tiberius concluded. Later, it added: “These syndicates are organised and all working towards the common goals of making profit, laundering their money, evading prosecution and preventing the forfeiture of their assets. The achievement of these goals is focused and determined; the law enforcement investigation should follow this lead.” Tiberius identified 80 corrupt individuals with links to the police, including 42 then-serving officers and 19 former detectives. It concluded: “Organised crime is currently able to infiltrate the MPS at will.” Research conducted by The Independent suggests that only a tiny number of the officers named as corrupt have been convicted. Keith Vaz, who chairs the Home Affairs Select Committee, said: “I am deeply concerned by the findings of this report. It is vital that the police have the utmost integrity. The public must be able to trust them to do their job and ensure justice prevails. “The Met have made vast progress rooting out corruption in the force in the last 20 years but it would appear more may still need to be done.” Mr Vaz added he would be writing to the current Met Commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, to “ensure that these allegations have been fully investigated and to confirm that he is satisfied that corruption no longer exists”. The report, produced by a team led by the former Met assistant commissioner Andy Hayman, paints a shocking picture of security at the time inside Scotland Yard, which had responsibility for the UK’s counter-terror operations. Working in secret, the Tiberius team drew on multiple sources of information including covert informants, intelligence from telephone intercepts, briefings from the security services and thousands of historic police files. One senior investigating officer interviewed by the inquiry said at the time: “I feel that… I cannot carry out an ethical murder investigation without the fear of it being compromised.” In one case, the report names an alleged corrupt officer who was inexplicably put in charge of a team investigating a gangland murder linked to organised crime. Other officers Tiberius says were known to be corrupt were also identified as working on inquiries into organised crime, many of which resulted in compromised investigations and, in some cases, failed prosecutions. Some relationships between Met officers and the criminal underworld were so close that in one case named police officers were identified as co-owning properties and even racehorses with a man suspected of being one of Britain’s most hardened gangsters. In one shocking case, a police statement taken from a highly sensitive witness was found in the safe of a nightclub controlled by the Adams family – described by Operation Tiberius as the “major crime family in north London”. The report stated the named witness was helping police try to solve the murder of Michael Olymbious, who the police believed had been killed after losing £1.5m of ecstasy pills owned by the syndicate. Tiberius also found a secret informant – codenamed “Lee Paul” – providing intelligence on the Adams family and the corrupt police in its pay to his handler at the Met, who appears to have been a man of integrity. However, Paul’s highly sensitive role was later uncovered by other officers and his activities became more widely known, causing uproar among the corrupt elements inside the Yard. But far from seeing this as evidence that the police were finally on to them, one rogue detective inspector was so unperturbed that he felt confident enough to brazenly threaten one of Paul’s handlers with reprisals. The ability of organised criminals to target highly sensitive police witnesses and informants was the subject last July of evidence given to Parliament by one of the Met’s most senior officers. When questioned by the Home Affairs Committee over a separate case of corrupt police officers targeting protected witnesses, revealed in The Independent, Assistant Commissioner Cressida <banned word filter activated> said: “I am not aware of anything in the Metropolitan Police that has resulted in infiltration thereof, but it is a risk that we are constantly trying to prevent materialising, of course, because people’s lives are at risk.” The Met’s inability to tackle the corruption of police officers by organised crime syndicates is laid bare in some of Tiberius’ recommendations. Although the report suggests a range of strategies to combat corruption, including establishing a dedicated task force, it also recommends merely “removing alleged corrupt officers from specialist departments back to borough postings to disrupt networks” and putting troublemakers “together on one particular unit to enable a strong manager to keep an eye on them”. A former senior officer, who recently retired from Scotland Yard, told The Independent: “Nothing has changed. The Met is still every bit as corrupt as it was back then.” One of the few successful investigations reviewed by Tiberius was Operation Greyhound, a long-running inquiry that found that two detectives had helped a known criminal hunt a money-launderer over a £600,000 debt. Martin Morgan and Declan Costello were paid £50,000 for helping Robert Kean, a builder with a string of previous convictions, find his former business associate, Andrew Smith. During their trial in 2002, the Old Bailey heard that Kean and another criminal, Carl Wood, spoke of torturing Smith and putting his body in a car crusher if he could not pay his debt. At the heart of the scandal was the friendship of Morgan and Kean, a suspected drugs dealer. When Kean wanted to find Smith, he turned to Morgan, who used intelligence databases available to Met detectives to try to track down and entrap him. Kean said Morgan “was good at his job” and would be paid “50gs”– £50,000 – to act as his bounty hunter. Morgan, Kean and Wood pleaded guilty to conspiring to unlawfully and injuriously imprison a man and to detain him against his will. Costello plead guilty to conspiracy to assault, causing actual bodily harm. Asked to comment on the Tiberius report, a spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “The Metropolitan Police Service will not tolerate any behaviour by our officers and staff which could damage the trust placed in police by the public. “We are determined to pursue corruption in all its forms and with all possible vigour. “The dedicated Anti-Corruption Command, part of the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, proactively investigates any allegations or intelligence relating to either corrupt police officers and staff [or] those that may seek to corrupt our officers’ staff. “There is no complacency in the Met’s determination to succeed in this task.” Botched jobs: Compromised murder investigations Kenneth Beagle Thought to have been killed by members of a named organised crime syndicate over a “failed drug importation”. Tiberius names a former Met police officer whom it says “has always been considered to be one of the most corrupt officers serving in the MPS”. The report claims this former officer contacted his “good friend”, a detective sergeant, on the investigating team whom Tiberius says “had previously been the subject of at least three corruption inquiries” yet was allowed to work on a gangland murder investigation. For reasons that are unclear, the Met formally “authorised” the meeting between the pair which “legitimised the access into the murder inquiry”. Tiberius notes that “shortly after the meeting” the alleged organised crime boss “knew that the investigation team considered him a suspect”. Ricky Rayner A suspected drug dealer who fled to Spain was one of the prime suspects for the murder of Ricky Rayner in 2001 and asked a man whom police suspected of leading a drug dealing syndicate to check whether he was still wanted in the UK. Within days, this man was able to find out the status of his associate following telephone contact with a police officer. The report stated a Police National Computer check was obtained from Bethnal Green police station. The suspected gangster was able to give the suspect the “all clear”, apparently leading to his return to Britain. Tiberius also identified “regular contact” between another suspected corrupt detective and a senior member of the investigation into the murder. Again, the investigating officer had previously been identified as possibly corrupt – yet had never been prosecuted and was put in charge of a sensitive investigation.

  14. I don't know where even to start with the op. How can Sikhs be proud of being "Indian" when India and its constitution doesn't even fully recognise Sikhism as a separate religion! If you want to be proud of India you give up your identity of being a Sikh... so what are you!?... a proud Indian or a Sikh?! I know what I'd rather be... In addition, the continuous betrayal and subjugation such as the fact we had to literally spill blood to get Punjabi recognised as a state language and we want Punjabi's in turn to be thankful to India? The Slaughter of generations of Sikh youth with no support from the Indian State and its Judiciary. Things like specifically banning Sikhs from attending the 1982 Asian Games and imprisoning them should they be on a train to Delhi... imagine if the British Govt banned Sikhs from attending London during the Olympics, would we be thankful to Britain!? The Sikh Genocide in 84!? The murder/rape/torture of thousands of people in Punjab in the 80/90's... I mean the list is literally endless... I could go on and on and on... This is over and beyond 1984 there have been a lot more things India has done and been responsible for that makes me cringe should any associates me with India. I don't hate India or the Indian people... but I feel betrayed and would never want to be associated with such a nation and its discriminatory polices against my religion and people from my ethnic/linguistic background. Also I would like to point out that it is a common misconception that India is/was one united mass... before the British came the area was divided into nations and Kingdoms on linguistic, cultural and religious basis. You don't see all the Southern African nations uniting into one nation just because they were ruled by the British! For some reason people find it acceptable to be ruled by a government that doesn't speak your language, different culture, religion, food, norms and values as acceptable?! The Indian Government doesn't represent Punjabi's and certainly not Sikhs...

  16. The javaans of the Sikh regiment were clearly told that the time for Shaheedi has arrived. Not a single one stepped back. They tied anti tank mines on their stomachs and ran towards the US made Patton tanks which the Pak army had. These Singhs had themselves blown into pieces and also shred those tanks to bits, thus causing the Pakis to retreat.
