  1. Bro, your post is ironically beautiful in it’s honesty and how it applies to all of us. I note the comment “I just don’t feel like I belong anywhere”. That happens to all of us in life at various stages. It will be because of cultural change, because of us moving somewhere else, because of change where we live, because of those close to us seeming to change as they move forward in life, or because of our mental state. I have non Punjabi friends but the people who I fit in with most were primarily western Punjabi Sikhs with a few recent immigrant Punjabi Sikhs who were extremely loyal to Sikh identity and living Sikhi by being socially aware activists and dynamic people who did not restrict their social circles to Punjabis. They were the bravest, most humble, and most ethical people I have ever met. We have dispersed somewhat geographically and in our lives over the years. Around me now I find almost the opposite amongst masses of ‘sikhs’. Much more of punjab where the script for their identity comes from bollywood and Punjabi popular culture. Drinking Saturday, gurudwara Sunday etc. I have repeated experiences with them being racist, dishonest, unethical, and superficial. It breaks my heart to see them wanting to carry the banner of “sikhi” into the future. As that becomes a more prevalent demographic drowning out my true Sikh bros and sis, I certainly don’t feel like I fit in. I also have thought I want to move away from this. When you get to the point of least fitting in the popular sense is when you completely fit in. Fitting in in the popular senses is an illusion bro. We have to fit in with ourselves first and foremost. ”Mann tu jyot saroop hain, apna mool pehchaan” I certainly don’t have it perfected but when you fit in with yourself, you see others from a broader perspective and are more accepting of parts of them that you may not have even seen previously. I see hope in those individuals that I describe above. It’s either that or abandon them, and the latter I don’t consider an option. I also fortunately live in a place where I am busy and can spend my time with various people. For Sikh minded sangat, I find it amongst a non-Sikhs and a tiny minority of Sikhs. Others eventually look to you to fit in as they see the ease with which you carry yourself. You will continue to prefer some company over other but you will find your niche. It may be small, and at times it may revert to a company of one/ik where it started and will end. But at any given moment you must start there… ”Mann tu jyot saroop hain, apna mool pehchaan”

  2. Oh I'm very sorry! I thought you were genuinely saying it. Vaise in my opinion you shouldn't try to get rid of any memories you should cherish them! Everyone comes onto the earth with their own naseeb and karm and there's nothing we can do to change Waheguru Ji's hukam but you could thank him for the time he gave you with your mum! ਜੀਵਣ ਮਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਏਥੈ ਖਾਜੈ ਕਾਲਿ ॥ Life and death come to all who are born. Everything here gets devoured by Death One day everyone will go and the only thing that will stay with you is naam. Where there is no mother, father, children, friends or siblings O my mind, there, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be with you as your help and support. Maybe when your sad and missing your mum you could Jap naam in her remembrance? because it might just get to her wherever she may be and not only that it'll support you too. I know it might be hard to think positively but your mum wouldn't want you to forget about her or not think about her, she'd want you to remember her teachings and live a good life and mainly a happy life. So try not to get upset but thank Waheguru ji for everything you have because ki pata if you'll have all this tomorrow ? I'm sorry I hope I didn't come across rude with the first message :blush2:

  4. As someone says, the Masands began committing many crimes like stealing money and raping women. Beating and killing anyone who tried to prevent their sisters daughters from being raped. When Guru Jee heard this He ordered that all Masands be brought at Anandpur Sahib by grabbing them from their beard. Not all Masands were killed. Only those who committed these crimes were killed. There was a saakhi of one Masand who was a saintly Gursikh. I forgot his name. But it is said when Guru Jee ordered that the Masands be brought to Anandpur Sahib, but no one dared to touch the beard of this Gursikh Masand since everyone knew he was sinless. When this Gursikh Masand found out, he himself grabbed his own beard and presented himself in front of Guru Gobind Singh Jee because he wanted to keep the maan of Guru Gobind Singh Jee's bachans. Guru Jee seeing him with is beard in his hand said: This hukam was not for Gursikhs like you, but for sinful Masands".

  6. Mark tully was a bbc reporter based in indian during the 1980s. Mark Tully is of anglo indian background.During his reporting he presents a very selective bias version of the events during the 1980s. Chosees to call Bhindrawale a khalistani, when all evidence show bhindrawale fought for the Anandpur Sahib resloution. Calls the killing of 10000 sikhs in india as a riot. Oxford dictionary definition of a riot as disturbance of the peace, Slaughter of 10000 people is more than an unpeaceful disturbance As a hindi speaker never mentions Amitabh bachans speech blood for blood.Which was aired on state india tv .Any good reporter would have watching all reports of events during the killing of indira gandhi for his homework. Why has bbc never mentioned this speech

  7. Its jevoh witness knocking on sikhsangat door. Can we come in.....we are only here to take you away from the true Guru and fill our pockets with your money....can we pretty please come in....im on the clock... Notice how there is no case number provided for court case. No story why exactly he was arrested. No detail of his remarks that got him in so called jail. This guy needs a desi rehabilitation program. Whoever catches up to this poster should provide with one and ask which faceless master of yours told you to come and post these lies here.

  10. Oh that's really good then if you've hd advice from a Mahapursh you don't need me explaining lol, but yeah they are probably trying to explain is that if you don't accept Maharaj jis ukam it will not help you in any way. ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ॥ One who does not know the Hukam of the Lord's Command cries out in terrible pain. if you don't accept what maharaj has done you wont be able to move on in life, but I still believe this doesn't mean that your not allowed to think about her, I think it just means that don't think and cry but instead think and be happy and thankful for the life she's given you and live it in a way that you make her proud and everyone that sees you will be proud of you too! I always remember this quote "You don't have to be famous, you just have to make your mother and father proud of you" Also I agree with the mahaprush because if you keep thinking back you wont be able to move forward and get on with your life! everyone's here to complete their own journey and meet waheguru and that's what you need to focus on when your upset- jap naam ! ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਉਧਰੈ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ If one dies through the Shabad, then salvation is obtained, and one finds the Door of Liberation. awww! I honestly thought that maybe you were living in a different country to your mum! And yeah same here I'm terribly emotional, ill probably end up crying even before a sad story begins lol baki bhul chuk maaf

  11. I can think of 20 guys and 7 girls who cut their hair because they were not fitting in the party, club, pub seen. These are 27 people who received proper Sikhi teachings. Nothing to do with they were not taught about Sikhi. This bogus excuse of they were only given turban and hair uncut as Sikhi is only true for a very small group of people. Majority wanted to fit in with rest of society. They did not feel right drinking, partying, womenizing, and sleep around with Guru Sahib's saroop. Just shows they were taught Sikhi. Now look at the mona parents and children. Ask them why they dont keep hair? They say it is not a must as a Sikh to keep hair. So who is the really problem blocking Sikh youth from following Sikhi? it is those people who tell lies that hair uncut is not a must. It is those who pick and choose what they want to follow in sikhi and then force this on others. All these false teachings have done a lot of damage to Sikhi. These fake gyanis are the problem.

  13. Comparing warfare to the incident of the Masands is not practical. Warfare involves armies that are paid to fight and are blinded from the truth to the point where many lies are told about why we need to fight and kill the other side (devils, kafirs, etc). Guru Sahib put that gold at the tip of the arrow is the same compassion Bhai Khanhaiya ji saw in helping the wounded "enemy" soldiers. Reading Zafarnama it is clear Guru Sahib completed the task of burning the masands. The words used towards Aurangzeb show the Bir Ras coming from the writing of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji. Aurangzeb passed away after reading Zafarnama. The masands like Aurangzeb broke an oath they took in front of the Guru. The 40 mukhta also broke an oath, but they were forgiven because they came back to defend their Guru in the battlefield. The 40 mukhta regained their oaths honor. However the Masands were on a rampage of destruction. In this rampage there was no moral acts in site. Did Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji warn the masand to stop their immoral behavior is not clear in history, but looking at the Guru Sahib's Bani, this is very likely. Guru Sahib gives the chance of receiving forgiveness many times, but sometimes, when the actions are too harsh and horrible Guru Sahib takes on the form of NarSingh and sinks his claws in to take the dusht apart piece by piece. Chandu Shah was also brutally taken apart by the Gursikhs at the orders of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji. The sangat is like the innocent Bhagat Prahlaad. They try to follow the Guru's instructions to the best of their ability. They come to the Guru after a hard day's of work to get darshan and give whatever they have made back to the Guru. They travel for long hours or even days to get Guru Sahib Darshan. They put their trust in the custodians of the Gurdwaras to be honest with them and give them the direction of their Guru. These Bhagats (Guru ki sangat) were being wronged by the Masands as poster Jonny101 describes on this thread. Guru Sahib is in love with his Bhagats and stand up for his bhagats when they need him.

  14. Bro , I wish to be very precise .When we refer to Panch tatt in philosophy , it should not be mixed with the elements as in chemistry . These are five elementry requirements for the making of the Universe , the Brahmand . While the first three Jal - VAayu and Prithvi represent the three states of the matter ( the Gas ,the Liquid & the Solid ) next is Agni , the Energy and finally the Akaash or the Space . these are the Five basic requirements of a living Universe , wherever these five are in unbalanced state , Life does not exist . The sun where Agni is the main element , no life supposedly exists . In far away planets of our solar System Vayu is almost non existant due to low temperature ( little Agni )and Solid Mass (PRithvi ) is the main component , and no life exists . and the space is which encloses all other components. Even the air or vayu needs Space to exist . Where only space exists , need I say any thing ?

  15. I can very much relate to you as this is exactly how I felt when I went through my A'levels and through my degree and a lot of my friends who now have jobs feel exactly the same... that lack of motivation you have to do your college work etc earlier is not a rare thing... even through my degree I would only start assignments the day before and a lot my brainy friends in the morning a couple of hours before deadline!!!! My advice... 1st - Carry on with your A'levels. Work as hard as you can. Try your best to the extent that you wont ever look back and regret the lack of effort you put in! Believe me... having good A'levels is very important!!! 2nd - You are too young to think about what you are going to become, especially if academically you are lacking motivation. When applying at University pick a subject you are passionate about... now you said Sikhi... you can link Sikhi to a Politics Degree, Journalism, International Relations, Media... remember at uni you have a dissertation so you can always link it back to Sikhi... use your passion for Sikhi and channel it into academics! But remember to fully look at what Uni you are applying to and what the course structure is like that allows you to do this! 3RD - AND VERY IMPORTANT!!! Get a part time job... in anything and try and "move yourself up" try and get promoted... work like a dog during summer holidays maxing out on hours, 40 +.... NOW,even if you do manage to get a job in this tough jobs market you will come to the realisation that isn't so easy doing a job that requires low qualifications with very low wages... you feel f'ed up with A'levels and college? Just try and imagine working minimum 9-5 being treated like dirt doing very menial or intensive physical/mental work for little money that gets taxed....BUT you need to do this experience because you will have this attitude as most teenagers do to just give up on education and you can just work and it cant be that bad! I took a year out before I went Uni and it was the biggest kick up my backside when I realised I needed to educated because I was getting nowhere with the crappy job I was doing... hardly had savings and couldn't get anywhere else with no qualifications... You may come across people that have become successful without qualifications but in this day and age they are the exception... Stick at it and try and get a part time job... then you will appreciate what college/uni can do for you!

  16. its for the elderly that cannot sit on the floor. there are lots of these types of people. bham has 2 tables, one in each corner for the elderly. when they (bham) open the back langar hall, it is all table and chairs. this is because of the masses of sangat that come (mainly over the weekend in bham). one may argue that >why dont they just sit on the floor< the immediate answer is that the flow of seva is better when one doesent have to bend down too far. so sangat will be served more efficiently. (and in turn more sangat will be served, lets say, per hour). hope this answers your question jeeo. gurfateh
