  1. Do paath of course, but if you still feel the need to get counseling, get it. What some random Sikhs hundreds of miles away personally think about counseling pales shouldn't matter. You cannot grit your teeth and strong arm your way through such problems. Gurbani as well emphasizes the importance of health, seeing as if you are not sound of mind, you cannot be sound of soul. Counselling is not a sin. Do what you have to do to keep yourself healthy and don't let anyone stop you from that.

  2. Life doesn't magically change post-Amrit, like the flick of a switch without any conscious effort on your part. YOU have to change yourself. Hopefully, that process of change is instigated by the individual in question years or months prior to stepping before the Panj, if you're an adult. Faith, discipline, and humility. These are the three qualities I feel are at the heart of what Amrit represents.

  3. Brilliant and amusing post...HAHAHA. OP - Anything is achievable, think of it like a profession you have to work at it very hard to be successful, in Sikhi you have no chance of knowing whether what you did is enough until you've done enough and realised the self.

  4. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Boy, that was depressing. It does change, and it is not just a list of chores you get to do daily as a burden. The Amrit sanchar you are blessed with is based on the previous deeds of your life, any kamai of the past and Guru Sahib's/Akaal Purakh's grace on you, and what dedication and preparation you bring to Guru Sahib's darbar. There are those who have darshan of Guru Sahib in Amrit sanchars, those who achieve a state of never ending Simran, those who unlock their past kamai and pick up from where the left off previously, those who enter stages of bairaag and Anand in the Amrit Sanchar. It is transformative, but it will also depend not only on the actions of your past but also the preparations of your present life. Gurbani is replete with references to getting Naam and Amrit and reaching high states of spirituality and Anand. Surely Gurbani does not lie. For some, it is simply a ceremony into Sikhi, for others it is life changing. There are degrees of this change. Some will feel only the beginning of their journey that "something" has changed. Some have a gradual, subtle change in their life that opens itself up as time goes on, some are blessed in an instant. This is not an exclusive list and there are many in betweens and out of the scope of this list.

  5. Become an engineer and then find ways, invent things so ppl in Africa can get water, tsunamis in 3rd world countries can be stopped, you can build earthquake resistant houses for the poor, make fossil fuel less cars and electricity. I think the best thing to do is wat was said above, get a good high paying job than volunteer ur time and money to the great organizations out there. Like Habitat for Humanity, peace corps, Khalsa Aid, MediCorps, water.org....

  6. Basically, you get amazing superpowers where you can read people's minds, predict the future, gain the strength of a thousand men, and just generally be an all-round Ubermensch. People fall at your feet whenever you leave your home, because they're unable to tolerate the immense spiritual aura that exudes from your radiant self. Everywhere you go people are begging you to bless them with kalyan... even the goreh! When you speak, your voice thunders and echoes in the air, so much so that it causes the earth to tremble to its core. You also gain the knowledge of hundreds of martial arts, such as kung fu, karate, jiu-jitsu, and judo to name a few. You don't have to train, they just come naturally. When someone speaks to you, you don't use normal sentences like the plebs you see walking around. Instead, you communicate through the verses found in scriptures. So, all in all, it's pretty awesome.

  7. So why is Laughter good for your health ? Laughter makes you feel good. And the good feeling that you get when you laugh remains with you even after the laughter subsides. Humor helps you keep a positive, optimistic outlook through difficult situations, disappointments, and loss. 8. I think realistic expectations might help too? Life is inevitably going to give you some knocks, being happy and in high spirits all the time isn't necessary. Sometimes a person has to go through some trials and tribulations and come out of the other end - the experience can make them stronger in future.

  9. Brother, go to the Gurdwaras, there is plenty of Sewa, and also, whenever, wherever you see anybody is in need, just help to the best of your ability without any expectations, and then see, how Wahiguru gives you inner calmness, satisfaction, and a constant state of happiness, beyond imagination of any state found in this world. When one waters the roots, no need to water the trunks or the leaves of that tree or plant, in a similar way, when you do selfless Sewa, you get in tune with His Hukum God bless you. Sat Sree Akal.

  10. Brother, Life can only change if only you want it. You have no limits. Wahiguru is your reach. You see, athletes or sportsmen in general, to just get a piece of metal, call it gold, do training for hours and hours daily; and we think that to get the Highest, we shall get it just like that? The higher the goal, the higher the price.... And in this case, Wahiguru does not want big big words or hardships from us. Only do more and more Simran of His Naam, and that also that much, that you cease to exist, and only He remains. And then when you taste the inner Amrit aslo, you will see by yourself that the 5 vikaars no more trouble you, you wil be filled withe divine qualities, such as : humility, contentment, detachment from maya:colors, forms, and the deadliest of them, lust, shall be overcome in a natural way, without any suppression, or any force, means effortless.... And then all this is noting, but a bakshish of His Daya Meher, for one just loving Him, through His Simran. This the secret of Gurmat. Sat Sree Akal.

  12. I was reading this post and by coincidence this shabad came on tv on one of the Sikh channels, so thought this explains it beautifully:ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ आसा महला ५ ॥ Āsā mėhlā 5. Asa 5th Guru. Hamārī pi▫ārī amriṯ ḏẖārī gur nimakẖ na man ṯe tārī re. ||1|| rahā▫o. It (Gurbani) is sweet unto me and it is stream of Nectar. The Guru has not diverted it from my mind. Even for a moment. Pause. Ḏarsan parsan sarsan harsan rang rangī karṯārī re. ||1|| On beholding and touching it, I am sweetened and delighted. It is imbued with creator's love. Kẖin ram gur gam har ḏam nah jam har kanṯẖ Nānak ur hārī re. ||2||5||134|| By reciting it even for a moment, man mounts to the Guru and by ever repeating it he is not trapped by Death's Courier. God has garlanded Nanak's neck and heart with Gurbani. SGGS Ang 404 ?? Dhan Guru Arjan Dev ji Listen to this after 48:00:

  13. It does not change. You will still have the same problems and issues as before. For example if you were addicted to alcohol, even after amrit, u will still be addicted. The only thing that changes is that u get more responsibilities and duties. You have to keep rehat. And u will have to fight all ur issues by ur self, alone. Otherwise u will disgrace ur sikhi if u give into ur addictions and dont foght them. and u will have to try to keep discipline like wake up amrit vela and do nitnem everyday and keep other rehits like not eating out or keeping ur head covered...(depending on wat rehit the panj pyare give u)

  14. Nobody ji, go for it, that's what I would advise. There is nothing wrong in getting help or asking for it when it's needed. If we were perfect, we wouldn't be here in this world. Nobody is perfect, every soul has their own share of weaknesses, so don't feel ashamed or embarrassed when you cannot cope or need a little help. You are actually doing the right thing questioning whether you should go for counselling. Counsellors are too, God's creation, just like doctors, health professionals and friends and family members. Waheguru does not expect one to solely rely on them, but you also live in duniadhari world, meaning you need to live life as gristhi jeevan and not isolate yourself from the world. We also need to communicate with people as they are same as us souls that are here to help each other. Every soul has the light of God in them, some more, some less, but each soul has their own duty in this world, so God sends certain souls to those who need help also. Everything and everybody belong to Waheguru, God, the one Lord. When I go to the doctors or somebody helps me, I think of it as God sending those people for my benefit. I wish I had counselling earlier, as would have been equipped with the tools to cope with the Dukhs of life. Not everybody is able to solely rely on Gurbani alone. The Gurus could have done miracles when they wanted to make somebody better from being ill, but only could do with the Hukam of Waheguru. Living in Hukam and accepting what is happening, is what I advise, and not expect God to sort it all out, but make an effort also to ask for help yourself. If you find that you dont get on with the counsellor, you can ask for another one instead, that you feel comfortable talking to. You may go through some emotions or you may feel better early on in the sessions. It all depends on the methods used by the counsellor and if they are able to communicate with you on an interpersonal level. If it's not for you, then at least you would have tried it. I found that when I had counselling, the first counsellor I did not like at all, and i got upset by the way he dealt with me, so then I said to him that I didn't want to see him, as I thought he wasn't a good counsellor and made it clear I was upset by his method. He was fine by this, and I had to wait only a few weeks later, and was referred to somebody else, and I can say rather than giving up and not going back, she was the best counsellor I seen. It took the second session to get used to her, and I wish it didn't finish as she was brilliant. Never feel hesitant, you won't know until you try out something. Gurbani will work alongside the doctors methods, and help you to cope with what you are going through, so you need both, and trust Waheguru, they are there to make sure everything goes smoothly.

  15. First of all - the justice system doesn't work and you will be just wasting your time. don't put your faith in the government. Secondly , without doing any actual work, you won't earn anything. And you will just end up jobless and on welfare living off other people's money, without helping a single person. Capitalism is the way to go. KIRAT KARO!! Thirdly, all of those who go into law always say that they will fight for good, but that never happens. Sorry to crush your dreams, but thats the truth. How about you get a good paying normal job, and then volunteer your free time and money towards a good cause as much as you can?

  16. Typical leftist reaction. They pretend to love democracy, but they can't live with the results if it doesn't suit them. They're some of the biggest freedom hating people out there. Show's how much they really care about their country too if they'll discard it so easily.

  17. The platform is the mind with a jiyote on it. Time is running out and in the distance there are the five who should be occupying the mind - Sat, Santokh, Dhaya, Dharam . . . . but who is in control of the mind? Who is owning the mind ? Kaam, Karodh , Lobh, Moh and Hankaar.
