  1. someone also mentioned about having goals, something to go for in life other than just getting married / having a family. girls are generally interested in guys who have something that they are passionate about, something bigger than themselves that they can devote themselves too, whether it be sikhi, charity, a career, or whatever. so long as it's not just the girl. i've seen this kind of stuff play out a ton of times in other peoples lives and in my own. if you don't care that much about what she thinks of you, that shows that you've got something going on in life and she's not going to be ''rescuing'' your life.
  2. though it may be small consolation, it is written in our karams who we will marry. some get married earlier, some later. in my case, my marriage date was set at age 30. but then again, i had insanely high standards and was not well networked due to coming into sikhi at a much later age. your best bet is to do seva in sikh organisations or at the gurdwara as parents etc will notice you, go to youth group meeting ssa meetings, and focus on building yourself up. when people focus too much on getting a partner they worry a lot, instead shift the focus to building up your own value. work out, take up martial arts, do some hobby you're interested in, and focus on your education. and career. i would suggest also focusing on bani b/c it will give you peace of mind, poise, and confidence. these kinds of qualities do radiate out to others. the opportunities will come to you, and you will be better positioned to take advantage of them. and btw, plenty of sikh girls who are not yet gursikh are interested in sardars, not the majority, but still, more than enough. it's just a matter of finding them and of building up your own confidence and cachet.
  3. they also used to eat a ton when they were young. today people are too focused on maintaining their figure. bhagat ji once mentioned that punjabi saron also made them huge b/c it had such a high protein content. unfortunately, punjabi saron can't be found anywhere anymore.
  4. perfectly ok to wash the dishes. seva like that helps clean the mind quicker.
  5. sweet taste in mouth? amrit russ, comes from meditation. it's good for your health too!

  9. i'm reminded of reading about police chiefs in the the USA and their varied attempts to deal with inner city crime. The ones who were successful were so b/c they actually applied the law to those inner city residents. When the inner city residents called for help, the police actually went to their aid. The ones who were not successful, the cities where inner city crime grew, were unsuccessful b/c the police didnt' do their job. When the inner city residents themselves called for help police often would not go. When gang members violated relatively minor laws like drinking in public or loitering, police wouldn't enforce those laws. this emboldened the gangs and their harassment of the public increased. the reason cops did nothing was b/c they cared more about how they were viewed than actually helping people. if you ask me, the actions of those police was distinctly racist since their informal policies deliberately harmed minority communities so that they could build up a good reputation. anyways, that was what they claimed, who knows, perhaps they didn't respond b/c of dislike of minorities. now look at the situation in britain and europe. didn't the police in many areas not enforce the law with regard to muslims? doesn't the media as well use the word 'asians' instead of muslims when they cause problems? The issue of the targetting of girls of non-muslim descent for grooming (along with the poor police response) is particularly salient when examining this issue.
  10. i've tried both and prefer sony ebook reader b/c it's touchscreen. also, i can change the size of Gurbani on it without it garbling up. with kindle, when it's zoomed in, sometimes it cuts off some of the translation lines, or even the bani. it really depends on how the pdf is set up. i recommend you try things out just to get a feel for them. they are all different. kobo ebook reader is touchscreen and pretty cheap compared to some others, it might be worth a shot. you can usually buy and return within 30 days.
  11. You can download the Gutka from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tcapf58x463h8
  12. i don't think that there is only one person out there for someone. that is foolish false romanticism. i personally believe there are mulitiple possible karmic matches, i believe. some may be too old or young, or whatever, and not meet for marriage in this janam but in another. so marriage, and all other worldly relationships, are based on karma, it is essentially a settling of accounts. someone owes somebody else something, so they marry, pay off that debt, and then whatever attracted them to each other is gone. so they divorce... or they overcome that and instead become a partnership dedicated to helping each other in this life, and for the next. these partnerships are rare, and most people are too selfish to properly pull this off. in the present day, it seems that everything is speeding up, spiritually the world is approaching or in a crisis point, so the increased speed of settling debts leads to increased divorce rates.

  15. sorry, I should have been more clear in my original post. I didn't mean to claim that. i meant to say that the length of the banis was in line with the ddt versions, and nothing more. i also was not aware of any of the discrepencies at the time of putting this together. unfortunately, I lack the resources to compare the Dasam bani in the gutka sahib. The bani from Guru Granth Sahib ji i meant to replace with Baba Jaswant Singh ji's version, as that pothi has resulted from decades of research. However, I've read that Kam is going to be making a steek of the nitnem banis, so maybe I'll just wait for that.

    I Want To Change

it's all about sangat. there is a negative energy pervading the west that influences the mind towards this. you need to stop having sangat with friends/family that make you want to go back to the old way and start having sangat with those who have sharda in Guru ji's teachings. the positive energy of the positive sangat, and of regular sangat with the guru provides a lot of protection. try to find new sangat by going to sikh groups or just doing regular seva somewhere. If you can't find sangat, you are better off just going to the gurdwara by yourself every day to listen to katha or kirtan for a while b/c it will strengthen you. everyday do benti to maharaj for sikhi dhaan, more simran, and chardi kala, continual ardass helps a lot. I've been through all this and lived in university when I was making the transition. I had no sangat at all for a long time and many times the old life seemed sweet to me too. Believe me, the change is doable and the mind will change, but you need to tend it like it's a garden. Sow seeds of right thought with sakhis of puratan singhs, the Gurus, saints, seva, katha, kirtan, *****satsangat****etc rather than weeds of negative thoughts, tv shows that promote harmful things that you want, and bad sangat. Then over time the new life will seem much sweeter.
  17. i saw the video on youtube. basically, the sangat started protesting loudly and would not allow the debate to take place. the speakers were unable to speak. and so had to cancel the debate. the whole thing was a setup i feel, to make baba hari singh ji look bad, b/c they can't take him on in a debate. the panth-dokhis then started this propaganda campaign saying baba hari singh ji had run away.
  18. as we purify our mind through simran seva satsangat and from obeying our conscience we become more in tune with our intuition. so external coincidences could just be merely external coincidences, a person who is not in tune with their intuition would not know. But, external events could also be meaningful. We would know this through our intuition. The same events could be meaningless to one person, but hold an important message for another. i have heard that if we do ardass asking God a question, then God will give us an answer within a few days. The answer could come in any form, something we see or something someone says. We need to listen to our intuition to know.
  19. alchemy is a term the western spiritualists used to describe the transformations that occur on the spiritual path. it's a great path, but lacks the depth of sikh dharm. in sikhi, when we talk about naam, about simran etc, all that IS talk about alchemy, we just don't generally use that term. but it is describing the same kinds of things. Also, some spiritual paths, like taoism, and western alchemical traditions, focus a great deal on transformations in the physical body. In Sikhi, the level of focus depends on who your individual instructor is, but by and large there is not such a focus on the physical side of things. If we continually focus on Naam and remain detached from the phenomenon that occur, then everything will just happen by itself.

    Joot And Food.

why not just tell them that you're watching what you eat? I find a protein shake at breakfast and another at lunch is fairly filling and healthy too.

    Darshan

with spiritual experiences it is a judgment call. sometimes it's best to keep it gupt, other times it is ok to share with close sangat.
  24. everyone has karma that they must pay off. so it's not god that harms someone, it's their own deeds from earlier in this life or from past lives. doing simran, seva, and satsangat, can reduce the harm from these karams by getting rid of them completely, or by reducing the harmful effect if they must manifest in our lives. for example, a car accident that would have paralysed someone, may end up only breaking their leg. also, sometimes seemingly bad things happen and we wake up and make positive changes in our lives only b/c of those.
