you are definetly not alone.....i have tried and tried, but Laziness yet pervailes again. I used to work in the morning and i had to leave at like 4:30am which was an hour drive to work.. Truthfully speaking those were the best time of my life. That hour of driving was so blissfulll listening to kirtan. I wish i could find a job that made me get up so early.

Waheguru.

Waheguroooo!!! Man I'm having the same problems!!!

Its tough waking up amritvela, when starting out...Here are some tips, that I got from some chardi kalaa Gursikhs, since I'm a lazy bugger myself :umm:

FIRST AND FOREMOST: This is the one that works for me alllllll the time. Do 'Sohila' paath, then do an ardaas, with love asking for strength to wake up in the morning. I don't need an alarm clock or anything, and you'll be amazed at how it works!!!

- If you need lots of sleep(like me), try to goto sleep before 9, that way you get your sleep and wake up amritvela as well. Try to avoid watching tv, or jumping on the computer, because one clip leads to another, and a clip leads to watchin the show, same on the computer. So keep it in mind, I wanna put like a small note on my TV, saying in big letters "MAYA" that way you don't get hooked on watchin cuz you see the sign, :umm: a small little trick I thought of.

- Drink lotttts of water when you goto sleep, like 2-3 glasses. FACT: Its better to drink water before sleeping, because it helps you digest the food as you sleep.

- Try

not to use a blanket, like a cozy blanket, or a "rajaee". Use either a 'chadar' or a 'kambal' which doesn't have fur, because that makes you lazy, and in amritvela, you don't feel like waking up because your bed is all warm! :D

- Put the alarm clock moderately loud, and NEVER put it beside your bed, put it further away from you so, you have to walk to turn it off. If its nearby you usually close the alarm, and go back to sleep.

I hope that helps, if you follow one or any of these steps you'll have no problem getting up. Bhul chuk maaf!

oh gosh YESSSS YES YES i admit ive got problems waking up during amritvela..o ive got problems waking up at all times cuz i juz dun wanna get up tongue.gif .

well what i used to do is that i will schedule my study time from 11pm all the way to 4am......study all the way till i'm really bushed,,then take a nice shower and sit down to do amritvela.....alt. i'll be yawning like anything but still bottomline is that i'll be doing bani tongue.gif *lol* Sorry Gurujee im such a paapee. :umm:

k some tips for sleepyheads out there like me who can never get up for amritvela.

1) NO LATE NIGHT TV

2)Do not consume beverages like milk/milo before u go to sleep..cuz these make u sleepier and u have more difficulty

waking up

3) As far as possible, avoid having supper(if you love eating liek i do... tongue.gif )

4) Rest u can refer to daljeet veerjees ideas...their quite good and they work...but i honestly think they oughta invent an alarm clock with a built it 'hathori'(hammer).....so that the moment it rings it can also give us a good knock on our heads to jolt us....then i think w

e wont have much problem waking up cuz each morning we get a shock with that hammer. tongue.gif :umm: or we each oughta have a pet like"Thing" from the Addams Family so it gives a good wake up slap to prevent us from snoozing back again.

P.S.: Juz to share with y'all....Nowadays my pet dog wakes me up for amritvela by climbing on my bed and giving me one good scratch on the arm with her sharp nails(when i don't move and go back to sleep) tongue.gif and a high pitched bark at 230am SHARP every morning. And I'm not joking..she really does that.....shes now chowkeedar in charge of waking a lazy pig liek me up for amritvela.

    • Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. Without the Guru, they know not the essence of the Reality, know not the essence of the Reality. Anand Sahib.
    • You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.
    • You don't need to wear either a pag or dumalla in the gym. You can simply wear a meter or 1.5m small turban (gol pagg or round turban). It doesn't come off.
    • The reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because like a fish in water, you grew up in Western culture and imbibed it fully. It's very difficult to for parents to inculcate traditional culture while in the West. The reason there is a problem is because a kiss between a man and wife is a sexual act (I didn't say it's coitus, but it's still sexual.) By contrast a kiss between a mother and a child, for example, is not sexual. And in our culture, sexual acts are not allowed in public. Goras do allow it. And that's also the reason they have gay pride parades now with people walking around naked with children in attendance and so forth.
    • The printer is C J Amritsar… They have given a mobile number for India …
