Delhi Riots

I stood there in trafalgar square yesterday thinking 'we cant do anything, why do i care.' i stood there thinking of my warm home, my bedroom, and food which mum would have ready for me when i got home.

at the end of the day i watched 'Widows Colony'.

it shook me. the bibi said 'do sikhs know what happend to us?'

this made me think. i always thought it was the rest of the world we had to tell about it. WRONG. we still have to tell our own. we still havent managed to educate sikhs about how our own were BURNED ALIVE.

we have forgotten them. we are too scared to help. we are too busy to care. we would rather socialise with our friends then come along and show our support.

it dawned upon me that if my dad, brother, cousin, sister, mother, son or daughter had been killed in the riots, then i would be jumping up and down about it till i died. i would be telling everyone. i would want justice.

its not enough just to say 'we cant do anything'. or 'we wont get anywhere'. if that was your dad you would still be trying, you would not give up.

the documentary brought a tear to my eye. i imagined that was my mum. i thought what if i had died for the sikhs and this is how my mum was treated. nobody could be bothered, or no one had enough courage to do anything.

i realised these are our people. this happend to our family. we are all sikh. we are one. this happed to us. NO ONE CARES. i cried some more.

HAVE WE NO 'ANKH' LEFT IN US? Are we lions or <admin-profanity filter activated> cats? I think possibly the later.

I had to say this to someone. i sit here crying. sorry if i offended anyone.

Part of the final speech - delivered before the Widow Colony trailer was played:

"Brothers and sisters, it is only 21 years ago that much of this happened;

and today many of our youngsters are more aware of the latest movie stars

antics than they are about our own history.

This is not their fault; they need to be informed and in my experience once

informed they feel the sense of injustices that we have suffered as much as

anyone who lived through those periods.

We need to continue to raise awareness of our history; we need to continue

the fight for injustice and we need to continue to battle to bring to

justice those responsible for these henious crimes.

That is why events such as today are so important; that is why we need to

continue with similar events and that is why we will shall never forget

1984."

Brilliant post msjskb

The event finished on Sunday with the showing of the Widows Colony, it was just very very sad and emotional.. no.gif :'( no.gif :'(

I agree when the bibi on the video said 'do sikhs know what happend to us' I felt very ashamed of myself to even call myself a Sikh because I did not know for all these years until recently what happened to the Shaheeds and what happened in 1984.

I did not realise how the families of the Shaheeds are coping with their daily lives.

When the bibi said what is the point of you coming to make recordings of how we are being treated etc. You will only realise if you had to go through what we did..

It just bought tears to my eyes.. Waheguroo Waheguroo

The video can be seen by clicking here

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!

Awareness!! Many people within our community think that 1984 was our own making. Dont forget how quickly our own are ready to brand those who stand up against beadbi towards Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as terrorists & extremists.

We have to make our own community aware about the attrocities by GOI. We have to go crazy with raising awareness in rainsahbaes, kirtan programmes & all major events.

Its something we cannot & shouldnt hide from. Displays, leaflets, documentaries all need to be shown during these programmes.

It is shaheedi & Sikhs remember their Shaheeds within the Ardas at least twice a day.

All major programmes in Gurdwaras MUST promote:

Respect For Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

Gurbani Kirtan

Gurmat Vichar

Awareness of 1984

This is our duty.

Degh Tegh Fateh!!

I would like to give a monthly contribution to help our Sikh brethren that have suffered so much in 1984.

Is there an organisation out there who we can trust to directly hand over the money to those who are in most need ?

Campaign 84 would be a good trust/organisation/project to help support.... are there any sevadaars that can provide more info for the sangat about the project?

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
