Well, 2006 has some BIG anniversaries.....

THE 500TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF BABA BUDDHA JI !!!!!!!

the 400TH SHAHEEDI DIVAS of GURU ARJAN DEV SAHIB JI !!!!!!!

and 400TH GURGADHI DIVAS OF GURU HARGOBIND SAHIB JI !!!!!!!

and 350TH AVTAR PURAB / PRAKASH DIVAS OF GURU HARKRISHAN SAHIB JI !!!!!!!

and 300TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE DAMDAMI TAKSAL !!!!!!!

as far as I know these are the dates:

Baba Buddha Jee's janam is October 06, 1506

Guru Hargobind Sahib jee's gurgadhi divas is June 11, 1606.

Guru Arjan Dev Sahib Jee's shaheedi divas is June 16, 1606. Some websites say May 30, 1606.

Guru Harkrishan Sahib jee's prakash divas is July 23, 1656. Some websites say July 7, 1656.

Guru Gobind Singh Sahib jee instructed Baba Deep Singh jee to establish the Taksal at Sabo Ki Talwandi / Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib, and Bhai Mani Singh jee to establish the Taksal at Sri Amritsar Sahib. This was in the fall of 1706.

I think all of these dates are according to the present Nanakshahi calendar.

jasdeep singh veerjee i agree with you... we need to use these events as:

1) a vehicle to bring sikh youth together for simran and sangat

2) a method of creating sikh history awareness amongst the youth

3) an effort to give thanks to akaal purakh for blessing us with the divine light of naam through guru sahib and these gursikhs.

as gursikhs we do not just "celebrate days" but we gather to remember and honour the bravery, valour, dedication and devotion of past gursikhs and use their teachings to inspire ourselves and the world.

these days are not special because they mark an anniversary. they are special because of what happened on the day in our history, and what we can do in our present to live up to those great legends.
