Sat sri akal

I have found that most gutkas and even online Guru Granth Sahibs have lots of "aunkarrs" ,"siharis" etc missing due to the carelessness and also due to the ignorance of Gurbani Grammar. After reading Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji' book "Gurbani diyan lagan maatran di vilakhannta" I could see how ignorant our panth has become.

I need access to original and mistakeless Guru Granth Sahib.

Can someone tell me from where I can get it.

Its really important because one small mistake can change the entire meaning of the Gurvaak and lead to mann matt.

Sat Sri Akal:

The first ever compilation of Gurbani was the Kartarpuri Adi Bir Sahib, which also contained mistakes that Guru Arjun Sahib himself corrected. That is located with the Sodhis to this day. The finalized compilation of what we know as the Guru Granth Sahib Ji was dictated by Guru Gobind Singh Ji to Bhai Mani Singh Ji and was nicknamed the Damdami Bir Sahib (location of the dictation). This Bir Sahib is either lost or was destroyed by Abdali in one of his invasions. However, Baba Deep Singh Ji made many Saroops based on the Damdami Bir Sahib. Such Saroop Sahibs are still installed at the Thakts.

Getting access to them is another matter...

which of the really really historical birs did "sant" fateh actually do the antam sanskaar on? because on gurpurabs they show a hand written saroop of maharaj (kartarpuri bit version).

and the guru granth sahib ji di bir in harminder sahib at the top floor is in tatters...(someone has replaced that) but i ask, the saroop which raja ranjit singh gave, what happened to that?

gustaphi maaf

Thats one of the things, no one kept records or anything so that further adds to our ability to recognise what we lost. But it is reported they were hand written Guru Ji and a few centuries old.

There is a footnote in a Sikh History book regarding what he did. I will see if I can find the book and I will post the footnote.

Bhai Shamsher Singh Ashok had the responsibility of taking care of Reference Library and until then he kept all the record. I know people who take care of Puratan Bir Sahibs in Darbar Sahib and Akal Takhat Sahib. They keep the record and do not do Saskaar of puratan Birs for no reason. Many Saroops from 18th century still exist today. You should provide more details and some solid proofs. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

1.are the Birs prepared by Baba Deep Singh still existant today?

If so, where exactly are they (not speculation, but some proof).

2.what is the history of the Bir at the top floor of Harimandar Sahib? Is it one of the Birs Baba Deep Singh ji prepared, or some other one?

just some questions that i could think of.

Sat Sri Akal:

As per the Katha of I believe Sant Hari Singh of Randhawa (though could be another Taksal Singh Sahib), the Saroop Sahibs handwritten by Baba Deep Singh Ji are present at the Thakts and he has viewed them himself.

:TH: Thanks

Has any scholar made an attempt to compare the Saroops?

This would surely resolve many issues like manglacharan, raagmala.

Guest A Singh.

These particular Saroops are not written by Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji; if they were, all controversies on many different subjects would stop immediately. It is well known there are various differences between these different Birs. Gursikhs such as the late Bhai Joginder Singh Talwara spent literally decades researching and examing Puratan Saroops. Even Jathedar Vedanti has done alot of studying into ensuring that as far as possible printing of Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is correct.

If our Sikh history was so black and white as some people make out, there would be no confusions on issues in the Panth.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
