singh.. the vast majority of amritdhari people on this forum have been told NOT to eat meat/fish/eggs.... hence being vegitarian... so we go by what we've been told... if u've gotten a different hukam from your panj pyaray then so be it...

Actually we've had a poll here and a poll on sikh-history.com..........both were roughly half and half with the vege's slightly tipping it.

So what you are doing is alienating half of all Sikhs on this forum. Now you may wish to alienate them with your altruistic views, but I do not wish that to happen.

Also they are NOT MY Panj Pyarey, but the Guru's Panj Pyarey!

Thanks

no.gif Randip singh how can you justify killing one of guruji's creations to simply quell your appetite. Each time you eat meat you have killed an inocent creature unnecessarily. Guruji has given us so many other things to eat there is no need to eat meat. grin.gif So why do you do it?

And there are endless quotes form gurbani that forbid the eating of 'flesh' . So how can you call yourself guruji's sikh if you cannot even follow his simple instructions.

"Jo Sab main eak Khuda kahat ho, toa kayon murgi mare."

If there is one God in all living beings, then why do you kill chickens. (Rag Prabhati, Kabir)

waheguru ji ka khalsa

waheguru ji ki fateh

Sangat jee, this is a subject that i've looked into some depth having studied some modules at school and also out of general interest. There was also a documentary on BBC horizon about 2 months ago regarding this issue and vegetarians. All I can say is that there definitely is a link between Omega-3 and anti-coagulating effects but not enough evidence to suggest clinical use in conditions such as depression and insomnia. Doing simran and paath always makes you feel 'good'.....and perhaps those of you who enjoy the placebo effect of taking supplements; make some pinia with linseed ........actually im gonna go have one now (not because they have omega-3) because they're so tasty rolleyes.gif

This is turning into a stupid meat debate as I feared!

pg 1289 Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji

mehlaa 1.

First Mehl:

maas maas kar moorakh jhagrhay gi-aan Dhi-aan nahee jaanai.

The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom.

ka-un maas ka-un saag kahaavai kis meh paap samaanay.

What is called meat, and what is called green vegetables? What leads to sin?

Why do you kill living plants - God's creation? Just to satisfy your apetite?

Why do you plough up fields to grow plants destroying natural habitats and using pesticides and killing Giods creations?

Why do you deny a calf milk so that you canhave some - isn't that being cruel to Gods creation?

There are NO quotes from Gurbani that prohibit eating meat, only twisted interpretation by New Age Brahmins. The Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is a Spiritual Manual and not an a-la-carte menu as you would have it!

Read :

http://www.sikhs.org/meat.htm

Sikhism does not condone meat eating or vegetarianism. Get that falicy out of your head.

Here are a few things for you to think about. Have you become so attached and in love with your vegetable that you feels it gives you a sense of superiority (much like those Brahmins who condemed Guru Nanak for taking meat offerings)

Page 1289, Line 17

maas chhod bais nak pakrheh raatee maanas khaanay.

Those who renounce meat, and hold their noses when sitting near it, devour men at night.

Guru Nanak Dev

I know I used to. Thinking myself spiritual superior to those who ate meat. Rubbish!

Sikhism is a Universal religion and that means anyone on this lannet could become one. Even Eskimo's who only have meat to eat. But hey, you would still hold your nose up at them wouldn't you?

PS The quote you have made is nothing to do with meat eating. Read the entire tukh. :)

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
