I am a former hip hop listener...all old skool from 1994-1998. Hardcore...the more bass the better. Had that smack memorized and could recite the lyrics of many of the top ten songs of those 4 years. Still got that tape collecting dirt somewhere...maybe one day I will burn it.

Let me tell you, hip hop ain't anywhere NEAR as hardcore as Kirtan. you want bass pumping hardcore speed mongering Kirtan? Here...

And don't even let me begin about that crazy Manpreet Singh...off the hook yo...

Yo...Mehtab Singh, what the dilly yo...hook a brother up. Why you playin me like that...gimme some o that...wait..let me stop...beginning to sound like Kumi and he got trademark on that flip lingo.

(Warning: The above may contain words unsuitable for those who don't know the old skool language. ms514 was the most illin' gangsta nerd and he got the pocket protector with a glock pocket to prove it...umm yeah, that's it...yeah).

"poheads" - Hmmm...I remember being called that in 2nd grade or so and I I returned that insult with "I'm telling my mommy on you"...the ultimate threat...MWHAHAHA!!!

True, Gurbani is about the message, but the delivery is different for all sorts of people. Some love soothing Kirtan, some love crazy-fast Kirtan, some love Katha, some Dharna, some Paath. These are all methods of delivering the same message. Some work for some, some for others, but the effort is all the same...to make the Gurbani stick to that teflon brain that moorakhs like me got.

Oh...that Mehtab Singh guy...still punking everyone out... I think I found his secret Kirtan...

wjjk wjkf! ok im like 8 months late responding to this but i have sumthing to say!hehe. i was in the same position as you...a whileeee back I would listen to hip hop or bhangra like 24/7 ! and i mean at home in school, in the car. my mom would always be like listen to kirtan n i was always like awww so i have to . slowly you start realizing how much you can get out of listening to kirtan. Once you understand the meaning of what your listening to you get lotz of rus out of it. Your going to want to listen to it at home, outside home, in the car. Listening to rap or bhangra will start seeming useless and you will shake ur head at the lyrics..think about what there saying. grin.gif haha. i havent listened to a song in like 2 years now. its kind of funny ..when someone asks me omg have your heard this song..im like uhhhh..no. but ur in the process bhenji .good luck

Some people think just completly stopping rap/bhangra/etc is helpful, cut down slowly, same like smoking ciggeretess, u cant just stop one day, you gotta cut down, and slowly keep ur self busy in other things, replace it with something else which isnt hopefully bad/addictive.

If you want to let go of rap, put it into steps, Slowly listen to less and less rap, Don't download new songs, don't listen to the radio (cause theyll update) Keep the rap songs u have, listen to them if u have to once in awhile then slowly put something else in, Listen to JATHA, it's almost like rap but way sicker, talks about real stuff not gold chains, girls, and maybachs, once you have something like jatha/kirtan/simran in there, then you're set. Listen to rap while you are doing all this as it will show you and let your brain compare what is what. You will soon realize and once you're at the biggest stage of realization and feeling how bad it is to listen to niggas talking about bad things and then listning to kirtan after, you will surely stop.

Don't force yourself, take it slowly, it will come easily, you do it when you WANT to. Like amrit, you get this thing inside of you telling you, its time. Same thing, have the intention of letting rap/etc go, But still listen to it, as it is ur "addiction/taste of music", slowly it will get off.

    • If relationship with Guru is strong, then kanga is done twice a day, and turban should never be taken off or put on like a hat, there is a lot wrong with that as it is against rehit! maryada is to take off every layer of turban/pagh/dumalla individually, and tie fresh turban each time!
    • the whole 'your husband/wife is chosen for you'/sanjog thing is real, it's just that a lot of people end up marrying the wrong person. they did not end up with the person that was meant for them. my friend, you should marry someone who you feel a connection with and love. there are millions of sikh girls, i'm sure you can find someone who aligns with your sensibilities and who you can truthfully say that you love. sikhi does not say anything against love marriages. you can also be in a loveless arranged marriage which is a safe option b/c both families are more inclined to keep the union intact. i was one of those people who was like meh, i guess i'll just get arranged to some sikh. well i finally started dating for the first time this year and i'm getting married to someone that i love and cannot even imagine leaving. i think it's better to have lost & lost than never loved at all. unfortunately, a lot of people confuse love w/ looks & lust. a lot of men go for the fittest girl they can find and think they won the jackpot or something. in reality, your partner should be like an extremely loved best friend. there's a reason why it's a fact that the most stable and long-lasting relationships started as friendships.  i also think a lot of women are petty and divorce over small reasons, but there's other terrible things like high cheating rates as well. that's why the divorce rate in the west is high. be careful out there.
    • andrew tate praises sikhi too & likes sikhs. his brother also donated to sikh families iirc. they just like any "alpha" religion and tbh islam is the most "alpha" in their eyes. islam is very good at promoting that image. but imo a real alpha man doesn't command respect by beating up his wive(s) or forcing them to wear a burqa. a real man will have his woman listen to him w/o raising a hand or his voice, and command respect by being respectful. he leads by example and integrity. that's true masculinity. you get the idea. + yes, it's definitely true that islam is growing rapidly and making massive inroads. strength in numbers + belief will do that. but rlly it's just because of the birth rate. a lot of them are muslim b/c it's their "identity" just like how a lot of young sikhs will say they're "culturally sikh" or whatever. there just aren't billions of sikhs who lambast their identity everywhere and have strict and linear rules like in islam. besides, the reality is that islam and its followers are some of the most morally bankrupt. you can see all the weird trans rules in iran, bacche baazi in afghanistan, visiting brothels, watching p*rn, p*dophilia what goes on behind the scenes in countries like uae & qatar, etc, and come to your conclusions. you can google all the stats yourself and see which countries do the most of these ^.
    • stop associating with hinduism, that's the absolutely worst thing you can do as a sikh. not sure if you noticed but the entire world looks down upon and spits at india & hindus, literally no one respects them and considers them weak and cowardly. literally 1+ billion of them but not perceived as a strong religion commandeering respect.
    • you wrote a whole lot but told us nothing. what exactly did you do wrong to make you feel this way?
