r u aware that the majority of the singh sabha gurdwara comittee(all the elders) are not in support of slough sikh school?

instead they are building a"recreatation centre" where people can rent it out to have parties serving meat and alcohol.

wouldn't this money be better placed going to the trust

we need people like Hari Singh Sewak in the committee who truly have a passion for sikhi and want to lead our youth on the right path

when they won the gurdwara committee elections last year instead of thanking guru ji they went down a pub and got drunk and even drank alcohol in the alleyway of the gurdwara

mr sewak was headteacher of sunday panjabi school for over 25 years and resigned in protest against the building of the "recreation centre" and saying that the money would be better placed funding a sikh school in slough

isn't it shameful that hardly any1 stood with him against this issue more than 3 years ago

it seems to me that the majority of our community are too infatuated with maya to care about our youth- they all want flashy cars and big houses

Recreation centres are basically large centres which are opened as community centres so the management can get grants/funding from local government. In practice they are not community centres but drinking dens for wedding and birthday parties.

The Jathedar of the Akal Takht knows about the problem but is too busy to get his finger out and issue a Hukumnama banning these centres.

One of the only proper Sikh community centre setups is the one next to Smethwick Gurdwara (or it was next door but is now located around the corner). They run it as a community project for the local community offering courses and other community facilities like job search, benefits advice, legal advice. Soho Road also have somthing similar being built which looks promosing.

We have others like that in Huddersfield where the besharam committee wale have the audacity to call the centre the Sikh Community Centre. They allowa manmat practices in this centre. They have ISYF press releases on the notice board but allow drinking in their community centre. Same with the idiots in Swindon.

Until the Khalsa Panth takes a stand on this issue these centres are going to mushroom. It is time that Jathedar Vedanti made a stand on the issue. It is all well and good summoning the Sarna brothers for Badal and bickering like a 2 year old with the Patna Sahib Jathedar but when is he going to do anything about these manmat committees.

seeing as youre part of the Gurudwara why not rally the youth and fight it from the inside

stage a protest

run for a seat on the committe representing the youth

its basic politics.

make your presence felt so that they bend to what you want - the louder your voice the more likely you'll be listened to.

How exactly do people get on to the committee - who votes them on?

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh

It is important local sangat keeps a close eye on the situation.

We must stop the trend of halls opened by Gurdwara comittees where meat and alcohol are served. This is anti sikh activity and must be stopped.

If I can help then please let me know.

thanx 4 the offer bhaji but it seems to me dat the problem with our community is that we need to cum togtha as 1 force

if we had done that in 84 then we would have had khalistan now.

people r out 4 themselves only

a protest is a good idea but how cud we get enough ppl 2 join in and aren't there laws in place that we need to have a look at.

the police need to be made aware etc.

ppl arent prepared to risk arrest for what is right

we need some1 who has organised protests b4.

we don't want wat happened in lemington spa to happen in slough (violence)

there r a few ppl inside the comittee who r decent but they have a lone voice.

Please if anyone wants to make a difference and stop the spread of party halls then you can help stop this. Can some concerned Gursikhs from around London get together in a group tomorrow evening and raise this issue with the Bhai Sahib Iqbal Singh Ji who is Jathedar of Patna Sahib

The Jathedar of Patna Sahib is doing Katha (early evening) at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Southall (Park Avenue) .

Go listen to his Katha and then tell him about these party halls and demand he raise this issue with Jathedar Vedanti and they issue a Hukumnama stopping this dirty practice.

Please sink your differences and for the sake of the Khalsa Panth unite and go see the Jathedar tomorrow. He may be flying back soon and we cannot miss this opportunity. Please do not sit back, if you are a Gursikh and can get to Southall then please do this sewa for the Panth.

It might be worthwhile take a camcorder to tape the meeting and putting this up on the net.

    • Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. Without the Guru, they know not the essence of the Reality, know not the essence of the Reality. Anand Sahib.
    • You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.
    • You don't need to wear either a pag or dumalla in the gym. You can simply wear a meter or 1.5m small turban (gol pagg or round turban). It doesn't come off.
    • The reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because like a fish in water, you grew up in Western culture and imbibed it fully. It's very difficult to for parents to inculcate traditional culture while in the West. The reason there is a problem is because a kiss between a man and wife is a sexual act (I didn't say it's coitus, but it's still sexual.) By contrast a kiss between a mother and a child, for example, is not sexual. And in our culture, sexual acts are not allowed in public. Goras do allow it. And that's also the reason they have gay pride parades now with people walking around naked with children in attendance and so forth.
