Yea but vaisakhi has cultural meaning too and bhangra was actually started because of it (Harvest Season)

I think its fine to have bhangra in different floats as long as it doesnt interfere with the kirtan or inturupt it at all.

NO it shouldn't, this is a religious procession not a bloody wedding!

It is the duty of the Gurdwara Members to make sure that no bhangra dancers make an appearance (or dressed).  And then before the procession begins to address the sangat to make sure NOBODY dances!!

Am i right?

not even at "bloody weddings" .. but that's a different topic.

Yes a verse ''Nachan Kudan Man Ka Chao,”

“ Dancing and leaping are mind’s yearnings.”

But like you say it's another thread :TH:

Actually even the best kirtan at our nagar kirtan uses dhol which makes u feel like dancing just like bhangra grin.gif

Well you 'Jassika' have not understood the actual meaning of Basakhi. Do you get up and dance when they play the tabla in the Gurdwara too? Or do you not get that far into the Gurdwara? grin.gif

waheguru ji ka khalsa

waheguru ji ki fateh

just thought id mention that we had this problem in Scotland, where things generally arent as bad as in England. However, we were doing a gatka displayduring nagar kirtan, which was fine. But when we stopped at the last guru ghar, and started ardas, a small minority of "sikhs" started doing bhangra! with a dhol player.

Sangat ji we took great offence to this and four times they were told to stop, yet they kept going. Our teacher was so upset by this beadbi that he attempted to kick the dhol.

This started of a huge row, with the dhol player claiming he kicked him!! The secretary of t he gurudwara came running out , along with some others to try and get to our teacher - so weran over to defend him.

Now this may sound bad - but heres where it gets unbelieveable!

the persons trying to attack our teacher were shouting claiming - " you got to play your gatka, now let us have our fun", and also threatened us , using foul language as well! these persons included members of the gurudwara committee!

now we are banned from gatka demonstration at glasgow nagar kirtan!

bhul chuk maaf

Waheguru ji ka khalsa

waheguru ji ki fateh

ps id just like to most of the "sikhi" minded youth never bothered with the nagar kirtan last weekend, and thanks to guru jis kirpa there was alot less sangat, and no more bhangra!!

also a few people were saying that it wasnt good that there was no gatka!

Only dhol that should be present is the Nagara (if it's provided)

Oh Thawaddi! :@ Well done the Singhs who stopped this. Lack of respect and education in regard to what Sikhism is, and what Basakhi is!!

It is time the organisers of these Nagar Kirtan started to differentiate between the two and ensuring that Nagar Kirtan at Vaisakhi were taken out in a proper manner with none of this bhangra rubbish. If any bufoon wants to do bhangra at a Nagar Kirtan then they should be told to stop and if they still do not listen then the polcie asked to escort them away as their dancing is likely to lead to a breach of the peace etc.

I'm in total agreement with this chap here :TH:
