whats amazing is ... start a post on nindiya or chuglee and it gets the most views on the forum. The forum should start letting companies advertise in any of these threads - i think it'd make a lot of money. I mean over 1,000 views on this thread which has been opened a few days, where some of the amazing posts in the Gurbani and Inspiration forums are barely viewed a hundred times in a month.

those of you who have 'hidden agendas'... please do not post on the forumz.. that is not the KHALSA way... and kurtas... please relax with your pictures... you wanna say 'down with sikh students camp, they have bhangra there... Sikhs don't listen to bhangra'... why don't u take a look at urself... do you think Sikhs should post those nonsense pictures?... and i'm sure u got a lauff outta it..

I have not said down with Sikh Camps. I have said Bhangra should not be part of Sikhi Camps. If people want to go paintballing, go bowling, go-carting then that is fine but bhangra is a no whther you like it or not. Are these Sikh Camps or Punjabi culture camps ? Are we going to allow Sikhi camps to evolve into COE type "Nine O'Clock" services ?

The pictures were actually to illustrate that you can have debate and fun at the same time and having fun does not mean doing bhangra. I guess http://www.sikhtoons.com/ is not a site you visit very often.

I guess it is pointless telling those at the Shaheed Guru Arjan Dev Ji mela not to have belly dancers and to complain when our youth block roads after Nagar Kirtan events. The youth will turn around and say we went to xyz Sikhi Camp and the Singh there allowed us to dance and even joined in.

if Sree Guru Nanak Dev Jee was here in physical form rite now.. he'd kick ALL our buttz...

Do you think Guru Nank Dev Ji would be ok with the bhangra at Sikhi camps ?

True same with threads on destruction of our heritage and beadbi. They do not evoke too many responses or views.

kurts jee... I didn't give an opinion whether i was FOR the bhangra or AGAINST it... agreed, that bhangra shouldn't be apart of Sikh Camps... but the actions of these people do not reflect on the thoughts and beliefs of the camp organizers.. if i went to khalsa camp and started smokin weed and recorded it, and put it on a website, do u think it would be fair to say Khalsa Camp is pro-ganja? it definitely would not..

sorry singh.. i didn't know ur intentions behind those pictures...

i want to ask what in your guyz opinion is so wrong about bhangra?... lets compare bhangra to lets say, paintballing.... u have fun doing both.. u do it with a group of people... its good exercise (whether u want to admit it or not)... it kills time... the only thing with bhangra, is that people don't get hurt, other then paintballin where we come home all bruised up... i don't think bhangra itself is completely wrong.. its the thought behind it that determines whether its wrong or not.. i don't know the song they were singing... i don't know the words or what it means.. but if they're jus havin a lauff, just a few guyz, as an earlier post said, in the boyz rest area ... then its not something i see as wrong... its jus guyz bein guyz, and doin pangay... which is all good sometimes...

now if the camp was OPENLY doin bhangra... as in the whole camp get together to have a jam.. then thats not too smart.. u can't label the whole camp for the actions of a few individuals who were doin pangay in their room.. i'm sure the camp didn't have 'bhangra' in their schedule for the week...

I will try to explain what is wrong. Problems always begin off in a small way. If they go unchecked then they spread like cancer. Like the corruption within the SGPC, it started off small but today we have prospective members giving out sharab and drugs to buy votes. If someone had stamped down on it and made it clear that it was unacceptable then maybe we would not have all these fussar panthis running the SGPC.

So we have some guys doing bhangra (not one or two but a whole group) at a Sikhi camp. Tomorrow they will say we want to do bhangra at the Nagar Kirtan. As the problem has not been dealt with it escalates and people begin to link bhangra with Sikhi. Slowly we get to the point where idiots get together after a Vasaikhi mela (like what occured in Wolverhampton at the weekend) and damage the reputation of Sikhs by indulging in bhangra, the associated drinking and other bad anti-social behaviour. People stop differentiating between Sikh and Punjabi culture so they think drinking alcohol and singing about lambra di now, the pagri of jeonna morr etc etc is OK and in tune with Sikhi.

if i went to khalsa camp and started smokin weed and recorded it, and put it on a website, do u think it would be fair to say Khalsa Camp is pro-ganja? it definitely would not..

There is a difference between an isolated case and say if a whole group of you smoked weed. Some people may enjoy smoking ganja and think it is a good laugh but it would not fit in with a Sikhi camp.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

I just want to say i have been to the camp in question. I have friends who go there. I have family that goes to it.

I have heard many things about this camp. Good and bad. Unfortunetly the bad outweighs the good. It is a shame because i am sure that is not the intention of the organisers to spread their manmat.

I apologise but I dont see how someone from canada can comment on this camp. Have you been there?

If my friend is doing something that is wrong i will point it out. I wont hide and pretend the issue doesnt exist. Many people are uncomfortable with the goings on. Many have pointed out rifts amongst certain individuals.

The biggest problem is that we are trying very hard to get our youth back into Sikhi. Everyone has different ways of doing this. What we fail to understand is we can try hard, please, apease or whatever but only Guru Ji can actually bring someone into or back to Sikhi. Why do we think we can do anything? Do we really believe if we make mone realise we are chilled out they are being shown the correct way? By the way telling the mona its ok to have sex with a prostitute is not chilling out.

Talking on the monas level is all good. BUT lets not give the mona a false hope. Guru Ji taught us to bring our heads on our hands. Lets not pretend its easy. Lets teach them Sikhi is hard and show them by leading by example. Not by missing our nitnem and saying 'its ok Guru Ji wont love me any less.'

Personally on the issue of bhangra my opinion is that we should show our youth that Sikhi is not the same as Panjabi culture. I heard a bibi recently talk of why she left sikhi for another religion. She was brought up in panjabi culture and had it all mixed up with Sikhi. She thought it was all one. Her problems were all panjabi culture related. The answers were all there for her in Sikhi, but people kept confusing her. This for me is enough to say we must do our best to distance the two.

The camp is arranged every year at the same time as the Khalsa camp. It is a ploy of the organisers that they should clash so that the Singhs dont turn up.

At the end of the day its very simple, if you care then you should take time out and be there. If you cant because you will make up 15million excuses then why even bother talk about it? Lets all work together, why the splits? Lets all go to as many camps as possible and lead by example. We should point people out if they are wrong. And we all get good sangat.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

Let us keep this in perspective:

1) OK This was a Sikh camp and really they should stick to Sikhi.

2) Just sounded like a group of guys having a bit of fun, and it seemed harmless....ok it shouldnt be done at Sikh camp, but hey we are not Islamic fundamentalists...we are tolerant funloving Sikhs.

3) Don't Blow this out of all proportion, because you dont really know where this video was shot.

    • Definitely the Guru Sahibs would be a heavier Scriptures to handle. Dasam Granth is more towards Bir Rass, Guru Gobind Singh showed his Greatness (of course, they would never say this) by separating his own Baania.  And the BIGGEST test of all?? Do we try and read Dasam Granth, Understand n show respect like we do to SGGS? Or... Do we QUESTION it? Guru Gobind Singh Ji is testing us.
    • My wife will be going for an MRI scan next week but her Kara won’t physically come off.  Is there any way the mri scan can be done with the Kara still on?  The alternative is we will have to try to saw it off before the scan.
    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
