Rename Indira Gandhi International Airport Now!

Recommended Posts

how many jews live in India? Yet they made this effort, bravo!

some people live with dignity, some die for it, some demand it, curse those who compromise it.

raju,

when you book a flight to india, it is listed as indira gandhi intl airport. THe big sign in front of the airport also says this. yes people may call it personally by different names but officially it is Indira gandhi intl airport.

also, sikhs are called sikhs, not hindus by many poeple, but officially in the Indian constitution, sikhs are hindus. We can't ignore OFFICIAL GOVT names and titles forever. we have to make a stand.

When brochures are made for tourists, when non-indians book flights to india, when we read text books etc, the OFFICIAL names are used.

India is a place that is growing, many people go to India for business trips now. They land at INidra airport not a name such as Palam used by the local villagers.

let me put it to you like this:

The majority sikh state in northern India is officially called PUnjab. If tomorow sikhs decide to start unofficially calling it khalistan, would that make it khalistan? Sikhs declared khalistan at akal takhat after sarbat khalsa in the late 80s, so is punjab now called khalistan? No.

so let's not fall into this trap.

peace.

Indira Gandhi is most popular in India for her "71 exploits when she liberated East Pakistan and split it in two. That is why even RSS and others who do not like the Nehru-Gandhi family have a grudging respect for Indira and call her "Ma Durga avatar". She is also jokingly referred to as the only Indian leader with b*lls.

Another of her quirks was the she constantly kept referring to a foreign hand....she always thought that the americans were out to oust her and were conspiring to make her regime a failure. And that somehow dovetails with the general anti-american environment in India.

Many Indians believe that pakistan/ISI etc are just american stooges and the master-brain of global terrorism is CIA/State Dept and Indira is the only one who stood up against them. Though finally they managed to eliminate her through proxies.

So I don't see either a Right or Congress govt in a hurry to remove Indira's name from the International airport, but a pseudo-socialist govt like that in UP if comes to power via a third front govt could take the step of changing the name of IGI airport just to grate the congress.

Finally the airport at Amritsar is being upgraded and it is being made suitable for even landing a A-380, and once that happens never again would you have to land in IGI airport again. Once it is upgraded the Raja Sansi International airport @ Amritsar can be renamed GTB International Airport and you can land amidst the gentle wafting tunes of Sarab Sanjhi Gurbaani @ Amritsar.

Airport upgradation

Crediting the initiation of the service from Amritsar to Capt Singh's efforts, the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel assured that the facilities of the Amritsar airport would be upgraded, while its runway length would also be suitably augmented to meet the requirements of the larger aircrafts. However, this project could be delayed by another six months as the Ministry in consultation with Airport Authority of India (AAI) was preparing a blue print for its renovation keeping in view a long-term perspective due to the possible increase of air traffic in the near future.

Referring to the setting up of a green field airport at Laddowal between Ludhiana and Jalandhar, Mr. Patel said that this project had been cleared by the Union Government and was in the advanced stage of implementation. It would come up on the pattern of green field airports at Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Lucknow. Similarly, the Ministry was considering setting up an international airport at Chandigarh.

Finally there is also a possibility that after privatisation of the delhi and mumbai international airports...they would forthwith be known as Delhi International Airport Ltd and Mumbai International Airport Ltd.

    • Part of the problem is the hostilities between India and Pakistan. If the border were open, Amritsar would easily become a huge trading city. Secondly, the National Highways Authority of India is constructing a new 6-lane expressway from Kashmir, through Amritsar/Jalandhar/Ludhiana to Dehli which will be part of the Ludhiana-Delhi-Kolkatta Industrial Corridor.  Maps of the New Silk Road show Kolkata as a key part of the "road". The Punjab to Kolkata expressway and rail connections will fulfill the ability to hook up to the New Silk Road.  In addition, while crossing to Pakistan via AH1 (Asian Highway 1) is difficult, India does connect to AH1 on the other side, towards the East. Finally, Punjab can trade with the world via Mundra port in Gujurat. Rail to Mundra, then sea onwards. Dubai is very close with a free port. If you send products to Iran, there are ground links onward to Europe.
    • Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. Without the Guru, they know not the essence of the Reality, know not the essence of the Reality. Anand Sahib.
    • You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.
    • You don't need to wear either a pag or dumalla in the gym. You can simply wear a meter or 1.5m small turban (gol pagg or round turban). It doesn't come off.
    • The reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because like a fish in water, you grew up in Western culture and imbibed it fully. It's very difficult to for parents to inculcate traditional culture while in the West. The reason there is a problem is because a kiss between a man and wife is a sexual act (I didn't say it's coitus, but it's still sexual.) By contrast a kiss between a mother and a child, for example, is not sexual. And in our culture, sexual acts are not allowed in public. Goras do allow it. And that's also the reason they have gay pride parades now with people walking around naked with children in attendance and so forth.
