4. Sikhs don't get beaten on the road because they wear turbans or look like Osama Bin Laden.

Yes, but Sikhs get beaten just for being Sikhs in India. This teenager who was beaten and had his hair cut by his attackers recently in Jaipur? No reason. Just for trying to protect one of his female classmates? I don't believe it. It was because he was sikh. And what is the Indian Gov't doing? Nothing. I don't even want to think what I'd do if I ever found those attackers of his. My blood starts to boil just thinking about it.

protecting his female classmates ??

his female classmate was being wooed by both the sikh lad and the other fellow. So it was more like a fight between two potential suitors. Ofcourse one of them got vengeful and attacked our lad's kesh.

And what is the Indian Gov't doing?

Indian govt is supposed to interfere in all manner of schoolfights now ?? Well...

But hey, don't let facts come in the way. Let the hindu/Indian bashing continue....

For now id say Canada, but in the long run, it would definately be the US because most Americans (as dumb as we are), are progressive.

As for England, yea people know about Sikhs, but tackling ignorance and tackling hatred are two different struggles. Hatred and intolerance is a part of English culture, it always has been, and will be for a very very long time.

Surajsingh ji, you made some real good points. and definately helped me look at it in a different way :TH:

The best country for Sikhs is INDIA.

1. You can walk around with your three feet long sword and people have no objection.

3. Sikhs don't have to hide their identity in order to get work or wear cap.

4. Sikhs don't get beaten on the road because they wear turbans or look like Osama Bin Laden.

5. Sikhs don't have to listen to slur which is quiet common if you are walking on the road.in western countries.

6. You can always find one Gurudwara sahib on a walking distance no matter where you are in India. If not walking distance then within few miles.

10. The big Sikh parades are available on all kind of Gurupurubs.

11. People don't look at you as you just landed with UFO and may be an alien.

1 - Only the indian government....

3 - That was 50 years ago in the UK....

4 - Sikhs should do more to promote their identity, just as others do....

5 - I've not been insulted and i've lived in the UK all my young life...

6 - So can you in the UK....

10 - They are done here on Basiakhi, for the Gurupurubs, the Gurdwaras and Sangat should arrange it. It's OUR duty...

11 - Never had that look before as i've said previously....

India is the spiritual land not only for Sikhs but also other Indians who have any sort of link with that country. It is like a rough granite for all of us, each one has to polish it to see the shiny side of it. It is an individual experience. Livelihood, peace, quiet living, justice might not be easily obtainable in a country like India 'yet' though, for that you have other countries in the west etc. Now you can't aim to have everything, can ya. For that God has created heaven etc.

The problem with western countires is that Sikhs arent recognised by the public/society/media properly. For example whenever a Sikh does a good thing the media will refer to them as Indian but, when a Sikh does a negative thing they are refered to as only Sikhs.

Having a Gurudwara on every corner isnt the way forward, when a granthi or commite member gets kicked out of one Gurudwara for putting their hand in the Golak they go and start up their own Gurudwara.

And another thing most of the Sikh youh these days try to be to western, im sure we have all seen it. Even on Vasakhi young Sikhs drive around Southall (In England) with loud Bhangra on, Cigarettes in one hand and beer in the other, with women in their laps. Is this the image we want the gora to see of Sikhi?

We all complain of the discrimination, but we never address the issues of partly bringing it on ourselves, through not educating are youth of what Sikhi reallly! How does driving around pumping Bhangra beats celebrate Vasakhi?

I live in London, and the problem i face is Sikh's embarresed of being Sikhs. When ever i see a Singh (or Singhnee) walking down the street, i will try to say Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Feteh, i almost give them a heart attack when they hear me say that to them in public. And usually the only reply i get is "Kidda Singh,"

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
