Eating Langar

I'm not sure about this topic becuase i understand what some people are saying how we should focus our minds on our relationship with Guru Saahib and then some saying disrespecting the Guru's teachings is wrong.

I agree with both sides but i still stand by the fact that if our Guru's sat on the floor why should we not? What is the justified reason not to have mats or chadars layed down in the langaar hall? Every Gurdwara since the Guru's times had all sangat sit down on the floor.

So my question to the person who started this topic is why haven't you talked to the Granthi of this Gurdwara you go too? Ask him why they dont put down mats but rather provide table and chairs.

I mean i understand how some older people need to sit on tables and chairs because they cannot physically sit; but others? Why?

Bull chaak maaf if i have made any mistakes.

If someone wants to eat meat, than so be it, if someone wants to sit in a chair, chan fine. And shoudnt you be sitting ont he floor everywhere you go? nor just at teh gurdwara? :e:

Gurro Sahib themself sat on the floor, wut makes u think u deserve better?

Guroo Sahib is Beant they can have ANYTHING WHENEVER they want it...Whatever they did was done for a reason.

You know how they say...SHORT AND SWEET. :TH:

(This is probably the only worthwhile post in this whole thread)

AGAIN .. i would also like to bump this post..

its the most perfect answer to this whole debate..

there are continuous stories of our guru saahib times i forgot which guru saahib it was but i remember someone telling me when they went to a raaja's palace (kind), all the sangat usually on throwns and upper chairs, guru saahib sat on the floor!

maybe someone else who knows the full katha would like to tell the whole sakhi..

fatehjee,

thanks to everyone first of all to post their views...and what is said in this post i will do so.....approach the gianiji about this table and chair thing...but because of the gurdwara is based on caste system, they might not agree with or find it important to eat on the floor anyways...God knows!...thanks everyone...

y'all forgettin the practicality... tables n chairs is nowhere near being practical..

1... they take up too much space...

2... everyting has to be packed up n moved when cleaning the langar hall... i's nonsense work fa no reason....

3... eatin on the floor allows for maximum number of sangat to have langar at one time..

4... eatin on tables makes it difficult for sevadars to serve everybody...

5... tables n chairs cost extra money to buy n maintain... money that could and should be used for more useful tingz...

overall.. i's jus impractical...

oh... NOT to mention that i's actually AGAINST Sree Akaal Takht Hukamnama to have tables n chairs in a langar hall :D

Why is it so hard for people to sit on the floor? Fair enough if you have a medical disability, and its imposible for you to sit on the floor. It find it soo annoyig when people who are perfectly capable of sitting on the floor decide to sit on tables and chairs, as if they were in a resturant.

If we got rid of table and chairs perhaps people would start to sit in the Darbar Sahib instead of socialisng on the table and chairs in the langar hall.

One other thing, it is wrong for someone to serve themselves Langar isnt it? By that i mean someone just washes there hands, grabs a plate and serves themself, instead of having a sewadar do it for them??
