It is interesting reading the views of ppl. Clearly a couple of ppl have agendas against others.

Never mind as long as they feel good about themsleves.

For those doubting the boy was attacked and suggesting he may have done it himself, please provide evidence.

lets get one thing straight, i m as gutted as u lot that one of our kids kes was cut. all i want to make a point about is what was the outcum of the protests? wen these lads who dun it get arrested how serious will the charge be, will they just get off with small charges or have an ASBO against them. wat is bein dun about that? i am no brave man, i admit it. i just think these knee <admin-profanity filter activated> mob reactions to all sikh issues dont always achieve anythin. our mps shud be lobbyin in parliment for stricter laws against attacks on a sikhs hair. is neone sorting that out. there r meant to be organizations n leaders who cud push dat through. i think a protest was the most predictable reaction from british sikhs becus that seem to be the only thing sikhs can do. and now after havin the protest do sikhs think the issue us closed? wat happens now? noone seems to want to answer that question.

Good points rupinder. I have said it before and I will say it again ---- Sikhism is fast becoming associated in Britain as a religion of the mob. It is only a matter of time before some mob turns rowdy and violence takes place just as it did at the Birmingham Rep and all the things we need to help us --- good relations, peaceful protesting, an image of peaceful community, is turned against us to our detriment.

like wat happens if theses racist lads get arrested n they go to court and get off wid a fine. do sikhs then go n protest again? this protesting lark has no end, it makes sikhs think they have got sum kind of outcum cos they took time out n spent a day in scotland, but wat is the real outcum? does neone really know.

sikhs who didnt make the time to go get cursed. sikhs got press coverage. in the newspaper today is 5 minutes of news, tommorrow that newspapers going to be wrapping sumones chips. news today is 4goten in seconds. n den wat, another protest, but next time the press might be bored of the story and dont give ne coverage.

Well rupinder, you are bang on the money when you talk about the need for a long term view to be taken with special attention paid to the Sikh image as projected through the actions of Sikhs in their activism.

Generally speaking, the Sikh image is good, and that is because generally speaking Sikhs are law abiding citizens and peaceful. However, in order to protect the rights of Sikhs in the long term, at a time in which Sikhs are dicriminated against, misidentified as Muslims, it is important to project a MATURE and CIVILSED image to show that Sikhs are RESPONSIBLE British citizens.

My worry is that every time there is a protest there is potential for scenes that will discredit Sikhs and our attempts to secure rights through legislation and community protection. Images of radicalised youths, Sikhs fighting each other, or even worse, causing violence through unmediated protest, will be detrimental to the Sikh cause.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
