mi sister n brother-n-law are both Rastafarian... and wi share a lot of da same thoughts n feelings towards spirituality and life ... they're also very spiritual people... and totally respect sikhi.. a lot of their beliefs are similar to ours... in fact, they also call God "The King of Kings"...

in regards to who dem follow; they believe Ras Tafari Makonnen (i.e. King Haille Selassie I, the (former) emperor of Ethopia) as their God/Prophet...

they also believe in livin a simple life of riteousness, truth, n strong spiritual essence... dem believe in da Old Testament, as opposed to Christians who believe da New Testament... they dun eat meat, fish, or drink alcohol.. n as posted above, dun remove any hair from da body...

there's a sect of Rasta, called Bobo Shanti or Bobo Dread Rasta's who also dawn da dastaar... women are very well respected, as in sikhi, and they are all seen as princesses and respected probably more then men...

here are some pics of the Bobo Shanti Tribe in Trinidad... very beatiful pics...

in regards to their use of Ganjha (weed)... for them i's seen as a spiritual herb... and are allowed to use it for spiritual purposes (i.e. meditation)... some, obviously, abuse the 'privelage' and do it jus for the high... the same can also be said for Sikhs who do it...

Rastas believe in Zion (Ethiopia) as their "home land", jus as ww believe Punjab (Khalistan) as 'our' homeland...

they are also against 'oppression' as are Sikhs... they have faced a lot of oppression, especially in da west indies, from "Babylon" (those in power; i.e. gov't, police etc...)..

the word "Rasta" also means "path" or "the way" in some arabic/persian languages...

anudda main ting that distinguishes Sikhs and Rastas is their grooming of the kesh... as wi Sikhs are to comb our hair twice daily with our kakkar (kanga), Rasta's dun comb their hair, and let it grow in dreadlocks.. (matted/netted hair).. dreads form by themselves if da hair is allowed to grow naturally without the use of brushes/combs... dem believe this as tha natural way .. in fact, if u go to india, u'll also see some (hindu) sadhu's wit dreadlocks n wha not...

oh.. also, they refer to their "Turban" as a Crown as well too.. here's a nice pic...

LOL, trust someone to jump straight onto the negative!!!

Of course they are well known for smoking weed etc etc.

It was just interesting to see a quote like that in the Bible/Torah, if somehwat vague!!!!

Before anyone starts pointing their fingers at Rastas remember that our own Nihungs are notorious for taking weed "milkshakes" (sukha parsaad), sometimes even starting the day on the stuff.

LOL.gif Sooo true!
