TOMORROW afternoon (India Time), TUESDAY 27th FEBRUARY 2007, we find out which political party will occupy the Panjab cabinet for the next five years...

In Dhaas' opinion, no single party is "good" for Sikhs. Akali Dal (Amritsar) under Simranjeet Singh Mann is perhaps the closest party in favour of the Panth, but there is very low chances (VERY) of the Mann-Dal coming to power in the next term.

Like 'Labour' and 'Conservative' in the United Kingdom, by far the MAIN two political parties in Panjab are 'Akali Dal (Parkash Singh Badal)' and 'Congress (Capt Amarinder Singh)'. Congress has been in power for the last term with Captain Amarinder Singh of Patiala as the Chief Minister.

The Akali Dal (Badal) is in alliance with the 'Bharatiya-Janata-Party (BJP)' this time.

Circles and reports in Panjab show that there is high chances of the Akali Dal-BJP alliance coming to power, but from an unbiased economical point of view, there is little point in Akali Dal winning as the central government is Congress. Until BJP is not in the centre, Akali Dal will not have a great amount of influence in Panjab as much as the Congress will if they win (as Congress is in the centre as well).

Either way, whichever party wins, there is no 'victory' for SIKHS.

The 12th Vidhan Sabha of Panjab has formally been dissolved today, and tomorrow the next Chief Minister of Panjab will be exposed to the world...

Counting will begin 8am (India), with trends expected at 11am (India) and final results of the voting that took place on Tuesday 13th February 2007 likely to be declared around 1pm (India).

Which party's good? I'm so out of touch with the whole punjab politics scene.

Hope this helps to give a very small introduction to current Panjab politics...

Which Akali Dal.....there are tons out there

The main 'Shiromani Akali Dal' under the leadership of former Chief Minister, Parkash 'Singh' Badal.

This time the Akali Dal (Badal) is also in alliance with the 'right-wing' Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Badal has won.

" New Delhi, February 27

The Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday stormed to power in Punjab, while the BJP scored a morale-boosting win in Uttarakhand in the Assembly polls, dealing major blows to an already besieged Congress ahead of the politically decisive Uttar Pradesh ballot.

Tens of thousands of jubilant Akali Dal and BJP supporters celebrated the twin victories all over Punjab and Uttarakhand as the Congress struggled to remain ahead of the pack in Manipur, where voters seemed intent on throwing up another hung Assembly.

A jubilant Parkash Singh Badal, 80, was set to become the Chief Minister of Punjab for the fourth time at the head of an Akali Dal-BJP coalition, having led a bitter battle for electoral power against a determined Congress. "
