If Sikhs (who are 80% majority of Punjab state) can't buy land in other states then why don't Punjab state create a law which prohibits out of state (bhaiyas) to buy any type of land in Punjab. This is very important step to control the flow of immigrants to Punjab. This issue is not good just for sikhs but for all Punjabis.

So long as badal BJP is in power this step will not be implemented and by the time they leave it will be too late :sady:

Why dont you people living outside start buying land in Punjab ? Atleast it will not go to outsiders (bhaiyaas).

ahaha sunny thats the good one :) and sadly it is true

For the betterment of Punjab, Capt Amrinder singh was great !! HE GOT THE WATER BACK !!!!!. The negative thing about punjabi ppl is that they focus on the name of the party rather on the political candidate. Capt Amrinder singh is nice fella but that doesn't mean that whole congress is nice. u know what i mean.. Badal & Co.. plays on the card of Sikhi.. They are dhokhay baaj sikh..

Now everyone has to spread this important future issues in Punjab for their own betterment:

If Sikhs (who are 80% majority of Punjab state) can't buy land in other states then why don't Punjab state create a law which prohibits out of state (bhaiyas) to buy any type of land in Punjab. This is very important step to control the flow of immigrants to Punjab. This issue is not good just for sikhs but for all Punjabis.

Erm im sure the Sikhs constitute to 55/60% of Punjabs population!

lol fixing a road just covers up the bigger problems underneath - its just a cover up to make out that your doin a good job. Punjab needs a wholly good person not someone who's courupt ( i know thats whats every1's thinkin lol) but its the truth. People make out as if these people are democratically voted in. Elections are blatantly fixed.

truuuu - BUT i jus wanna know what Badal dun wrong i dont kno nuff bout India's poltics

ALSO I SHULD B in charge of Panjab hunna :)

Badal was the chief minister in punjab in 1978. His akali counterparts in the punjab govt did not want the nirankaris to have thier meeting in amritsar. however the jan sangh colation partner of the akali in the same govt were in favour of the nirankaris having thier meeting in amritsar. they wannred badal that they would break the coalotion and therefore the punjab govt so he would lkose his cheif ministership if he went against the nirankaris. si in ordeer to save his chief minister ship he allowed the meeting to take place, and you all know what happened. he totallyt sold out the panthat that time, and the niranakari baba used a gvt vuehicle to escape amritsar, which badal knew of but kept queit.

Not Sikhs, but Punjabis are not allowed to buy land in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. The rest of India is open.....I think

I am not sure why though?

SIKHS or "PUNJABIS" can't buy any land in the adjoining states of himachal, rajasthan, haryana and Jammu and kashmir to prevent formation of seprate sikh homeland. the jews purchased land from arabs and declared israel as their country. Indian govt. feared same thing from sikhs. Till date sikhs can't buy a piece of land adjoining punjab, but can buy in other states.

BJP/RSS takeover of Punjab starts today.

12 SAD, 5 BJP ministers expected today

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, March 1

It is expected that all 17 ministerial berths in the Punjab Council of Ministers will be filled tomorrow by Parkash Singh Badal. He will be sworn in as Chief Minister. Sources said this decision was taken at a joint meeting of senior leaders of the SAD-BJP combine here tonight.

This has been done to avoid any pulls and pressures to fill the vacant slots at a later stage. Sources said most of the old faces would be inducted as ministers. So, the council of ministers having a drastically unexpected look is ruled out.

The size of the assembly allows only 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister. Sources said as per the shareing formula arrived at the tonight meeting, the SAD would have 12 berths of ministers, including that of the Chief Minister, while the remaining five would go to the BJP.

The BJP has reportedly dropped its demand for deputy chief ministership and bargained for “important” portfolios.

Among those from SAD, the names being discussed to be ministers are Ranjit Singh Brahampura, Kanwaljit Singh, Manpreet Singh Badal, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Sucha Singh Langah, Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Upinderjit Kaur, Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon, Ajit Singh Kohar, Gulzar Singh Ranike and Janmeja Singh Sekhon.

Among the BJP the names being discussed are those of Manoranjan Kalia, Swarna Ram, Master Mohan Lal, Tikshan Sud, Laxmi Kanta Chawla and Jagdish Sahni. Betwnn Sahni and Sud only may make it.

For the post of speaker the name of Nirmal Singh Kahlon has almost been finalised, while Satpal Gosian is expected to be the deputy speaker.

Also the SAD-BJP combine has decided that it would not offer the post of deputy speaker to the opposition. The Congress had not shown any such nicety.

Criminal cases against 20 new MLAs

Ajay Banerjee

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, March 1. Twenty newly elected MLAs in Punjab have criminal cases pending against them, while another 20 of them are undermatriculates and 36 undergraduates. The house will have the wisdom of only 15 postgraduates across party lines and another 45 graduates.

Punjab Election Watch, a non-governmental organisation, today urged Parkash Singh Badal not to give a ministerial berth to any MLA having a criminal record or undermarticulates. Of the winning SAD-BJP combination, 11 Akalis and two from the BJP have criminal records. Seven Congress MLAs have similar records. These include cases of attempt to murder faced by an SAD MLA.

Cutting across party lines, as many as 11 MLAs face cases of cheating and corruption. A Congress MLA faces a case of kidnapping while a cheque issued by another MLA of the same party had bounced and he is facing a trial. An SAD MLA has been booked for theft and 4 SAD MLAs are facing cases of rioting. The number of cases is more against some of the MLAs.

Notably, candidates who are facing cases of murder and rape have been defeated in this election.

On the education front the SAD, BJP and the Congress have 11, one and six MLAs, respectively, who are undermatriculate while two Independents are also undermatriculate. Of the 36 undergraduates the three parties have 12, eight and 16 such MLAs, respectively. The three parties have 18, five and 19 graduates, respectively. Three Independents are also graduates. The SAD has seven postgraduates, BJP five and Congress three.

The importance of money power can be gauged from the fact that the average per capita assets of the 116 winners is Rs 3.55 crore, says Hitender Jain, a member of the core group of the NGO. When the parties went to the polls the average per capita assets of the candidates was only Rs 1.61 crore. This means the poorer candidates have been defeated or else the average would have come down.

Another interesting aspect is the age profile. Five of the MLAs, including the chief minister-designate are above 70.

The shape of things to come?

Chaos ruled supreme

Kanwaljit admonishes Mohali DC, SSP

Tribune News Service

Poor management and chaos marked the oath-taking ceremony of the Punjab cabinet at the PCA Stadium here today.

A section of people occupied chairs meant for MLAs and some in the front enclosures did not even stand in respect for the national anthem at the start of the ceremony. When the function ended, people in special enclosures got up and started walking away or calling out their friends. Others tried to climb on to the stage, much to the irritation of those standing attention for the national anthem.

When the ceremony was to start, senior leader Capt Kanwaljit Singh had to come on stage. He took the mike in hand and asked the people to vacate the chairs as several MLAs were sitting on the ground.

He went on to admonish the DC and the SSP, saying the arrangements were inadequate and there was total confusion. "It is deplorable that the officers are sitting on chairs while elected representatives are sitting on the ground".

Capt Kanwaljit Singh called out to the DC, Mohali, to take charge of the situation. He called out to Home Secretary B.C. Gupta, seated at in the officers enclosure, saying "Gupta Saheb, please intervene and get things moving". He asked about the identity of a man sitting in rows reserved for MLAs and asked the police to remove him.

He also instructed the police to provide a corridor for VIP entry. When Parkash Singh Badal came on stage, he had to ask some youth to be quiet and let the job at hand finish.

Entry into the stadium was chaotic. It was more pushing and jostling. The gates of the stadium were closed time and again. Security personnel accompanying VVIPs like L.K. Advani, Narendra Modi or Farooq Abdullah, all in the Z-plus security category, were jittery. None of the people sitting in the invitees’ enclosure close to the VVIPs were frisked.
