Ekta

There is no Sikh that will not agree with the main message of “ekta”. However I do still feel that we are showing a fake front and if we are really willing to accept ekta then we would make references about Gursikhs like Bhai Fauja Singh as being part of the Khalsa Panth rather than “Akhand Kirtan Jatha” and so on.

Maybe I am reading in between the lines of Pwalla original posting, but I seem to see an "AKJ" bias with a tolerance to "Taksal". Why do we still have to distinguish a Sikh into Sub-categories? Why are you calling someone a Taksal Singh and AKJ Singh, because I do not remember Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj mentioning these specific types of Singhs?!

Personally I don’t really think there is any harm in having Jathas with their own history, legends, story to tell and culture it makes up the fabric of Sikhi and history thats all good. However when certain people boil it down to a selective chosen few because of joint collective understanding be it social, political etc that’s a bit wrong and its not really Ekta. In reality the people on the outside of the special Ekta club have more awareness about the concept of Ekta then those in it, in this case its pretty obviouse.

Waheguroo ji ka khalsa, waheguroo ji ki fateh

Good points jio.

Daas didn’t say jathabandis were bad, we are all good at something we all have a quality, Taksal Singhs are good with Gurbani and katha, Akhand Keertan Jatha is good at abhiyaas and keertan, the Nihangs are good at being warriors, Goreh singh with Yoga and meditation. To have Ekta doesn’t really mean we are all going to have one view. It just means we stay away from them until panth decides on it, when time comes. Which will definitely come.

Personally, in Guru Gobind Singh ji times there were also jatha bandis, Baba Deep singh ji had a jatha bandi and so did Banda Singh Bahadar they worked better that way. There were also some jatheh that use to look after the front line and others the sisters. So every one has a seva to do, but personally daas thinks these jatheh have gone off track and went to the political side of it.

For example Taksal waleh singhs like listening to katha at amritwela where as jatha singhs like to do more abhiyaas, Nihangs love to do shastar vidiya. At home my brother likes to do an Sukhmani sahib and where as daas likes to do more abhiyaas, its what guru has blessed us with.

When the time comes, singhs should be able to put the politics behind them and fight the enemy hand to hand with brothers.

So personally daas doesn’t think jathabandis are wrong just a bit of track.

Interesting, but I don’t think I can agree with naively allocating areas of expertise to different “jathas/sampardays”.

To say “Taksal Singhs are good with Gurbani and katha, Akhand Keertan Jatha is good at abhiyaas and keertan, the Nihangs are good at being warriors, Goreh singh with Yoga and meditation” is improper in my opinion and only enhances dysfunctionallity and the lack of unity between us. With this kind of view, we will automatically create labels and stereotypes (i.e only AKJ do abhiyaas and nice keertan, or only Taksal know how to read shud bani).

In reality a Gursikh will be blessed with the gifts Sri Akal Purakhs sees fit, whether it’s keertan or shaster vidya, we will all be experiencing different avastas at different times of our lives driven by our own actions.

Ekta

Before starting daas would like to apologise for any mistakes made in the article, daas is not a writer or speaker but writes down what daas feels. Yesterday daas went down with a few Singhs to a camp and learnt a lot from a great gursikh but also there were many questions like, “what we shall do to get the same ekta that Bhai Fauja singh and Sant Kartar Singh ji had.” A lot of things daas will say may hurt upset some one but that is not daas intentions.

It’s simple Jaap Naam together, when Baba Harnam Singh ji use to have Naam Kamai Camps for eight days or so, singhs such as Sant Kartar Singh of Damdami Taksal, Shaheed Bhai Fauja Singh and Joginder singh Halwara of Akhand Kirtani Jatha use to visit and do service at the smagam. Where Bhai Joginder Singh Halwara and the jatha use to do the keertan and the Taksali singhs use to do the katha.

At the time of Bhai Randheer singh and Sant Gurbachan singh, the Akhand Keertani Jatha use to do the keertan and Sant Gurbachan Singh and Taksal wale singhs did the katha. If these Kamai Wale Gursikhs had so much piyaar for each other, who are we to split over a few issues, what didn’t they have issues then at those times.

Now singhs before doing the Fathe will think twice, which jatha is he from his wearing a Taksali dastar he must be a taksali? Before the Fathe we got a million thoughts separating it, that Fathe will never be accepted by Guru Gobind Singh ji.

Baba Harnam Singh use to go to Akhand Paths bhogs organised by Akhand Kirtani Jatha and vise versa, Baba Harnam Singh knew that the jatha is not going to read Raag malla but he still went and sat all the way through, now days its ok for jatha singhs to sit through raag malla but not for a Taksali singh to sit through a Jatha organised Akhand Path, why is this? We can’t have a one way Ekta? It’s true because daas has seen it with his own eyes. Daas also had some singhs laughing behind the gursikhs backs and making fun of the singhs because they didn’t agree the way they designed a few tops, if it was such a problem then singhs should have come up to them and with nimrata bring the issue forward, not to make comments like, “if you want to listen or not that’s up to you” these are all issues that daas experienced that’s why daas is brining them forward. Also if singhs on stages can comment issues such as kesh is a kakar and raag malla is bani but it is wrong for singhs to have books on stales is all a one way process. Daas is brining this forward because its things that are upsetting people, if we want Ekta we need to stay away from such issues.

How to bring more Ekta in the panth

Singhs from all jatha bandis should support an event organised by any of the other jatha, singhs need to start going Rensbhais, but also singhs from Akhand Keertani Jatha need to open up more and go to programs organised by other jatha bandis. If all jatha singhs start to spend time with each other all night singing the praises of waheguroo then there can be more chardikala in the panth.

Daas has seen a lot of the Akhand keertani Jatha singhs well there are a few but majority don’t come to the Respect for Guru Granth Sahib ji campaign. We need more singhs coming to such events, daas sees that a lot of singhs will go to rensbhais but will fail to stand up when needed. Don’t forget Bhai Fauja singh stopped a keertan darbar and did a speech in the middle of the keertan for the singhs to go and join the Taksal singhs in the Morcha. One point to note here is, what was the need for Sant Jarnail Singh ji to ask the jatha singhs to forward, what didn’t he have enough singhs in Taksal, if he was so raag malla and kesh etc, why did he call those singhs that didn’t even agree with the points. There was piyaar between them these issues didn’t split them, which are splitting us up now.

Sit through out the keertan even if some singhs might be doing something that you don’t agree with. If we were naam abhiyaasi then these things wont come in the way, but the problem is this the quality we are missing.

Sorry to say the ones that complain / argue about raag malla, keski gupt amritwela etc are the ones that have no jeevan but are there for the name, they are spiritually empty, we need to realise this. You can’t become a Taksali or part of the Akhand Keertani jatha because of a few views, or because you wear a Taksali pag or because you took amrit from the Jatha.

Khalistan

One thing daas is confused about, why are Singhs so much in to Khalistan. Khalistan is a bit of land, which will probably be corrupt after a few years. Piyraio lets wake up, mahraj has offered us the world to have raaj over, but for that we need to, ‘Man Jite, Jag Jeet’. The reason being singhs are now lazy cant wake up amritwela, jaap naam athi pehar and keep rehit, for that reason if we do little we will get little.

The government is wining, they saw that these issues will split us up, so they put some government de bande (people) in to the panth such as Badal and the rest to split us and bring friction between each other. Daas has one thing to say to the government, “for how long will you keep brothers apart, we are becoming one again, be scared because we will come again and get the justice we deserve.”

A lot of things daas must have said may feel upsetting but daas felt we need to learn from our mistakes and learn from our elder gursikhs, who did Shaheedi for US.

Bhul chuk faf jio.

    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
    • All of these are suppositions, bro. Linguists know that, generally, all the social classes of a physical area speak the same language, though some classes may use more advanced vocabulary. I'm talking about the syntax. That is, unless the King is an invader, which Porus was not. When you say Punjabi wasn't very evolved, what do you mean? The syntax must have been roughly the same. As for vocabulary, do you really think Punjabis at the time did nothing more than grunt to express their thoughts? That they had no shades of meaning? Such as hot/cold, red/yellow/blue, angry/sweet/loving/sad, etc? Why must we always have an inferiority complex?
    • I still think about that incident now and then, just haven't heard any developments regarding what happened, just like so many other things that have happened in Panjab!
    • There was a young Singh from abroad who went to Anandpur Sahib Hola and got into a fight with some Punjabis who were playing loud non-religious music. He had bana and a weapon or two. There were more of them than him.  He ended up losing his life. Don't be like that. Not worth it to fight manmukhs. @californiasardar1 ਮੂਰਖੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਲੁਝੀਐ ॥੧੯॥ Argue not with a fool. p473
