some punjabis are really stupid nowadays, just last weekend, some persons wedding at gurdwara, outside gurdwara sahib they had someone doing dhol and they were doing bhangra, people like this have no respect for maharaaj

Wearing a Kalgi (a plume) on one’s turban signifies that the person is a royal person, a king and a person with great responsibility and respect.

Unfortunately in recent years people have been following the practice of putting a Kalgi on the groom’s turban on the wedding day, which is ceremoniously removed in the Diwaan Hall in the Gurdwara Sahib by the groom’s sisters.

Is wearing a Kalgi in accordance to Gurmat, the Guru’s way? Could you wear a Kalgi on your turban and walk inside the Golden Temple and not be stopped by fellow Sikhs or sewadaars?

Is wearing a Kalgi in the house of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, our King who we call ‘Kalgiaa(n)vala’ (the one who wear’s the plume) not a great act of disrespect?

If the groom is a king like Guru Gobind Singh ji, then by all means wear a Kalgi on the turban.

If the groom can carry us across to Waheguru like Guru Gobind Singh Ji, then by all means wear a Kalgi on the turban.

If the groom can do the same things which Guru Gobind Singh Ji done, which makes him worthy of being called ‘the one with Kalgi’ then by all means wear a Kalgi on the turban.

We must address this issue and educate ourselves.

We must understand that people and not the Gurus start these practices.

We must take action to stop any form of disrespect to the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the living speaking soul of the Ten Gurus.

The Kalgi (plume) represents royalty, sovereignty and authority. When we enter a Gurdwara, we are entering the House of the Guru. For a Sikh, the Guru is the Highest of High, King of Kings and Ruler of Rulers. Guru Gobind Singh Sahib jee is known as "Kalgee-aa Waale" (The Wearer of the Kalgi). It would be absurd to call Guru Gobind Singh Sahib jee "Kalgee-aa Waale" and "King of Kings" and then enter the Guru's Darbaar wearing a Kalgi.

Raam Raheem attempted to imitate the Tenth Guru by wearing a Kalgi and the Sikhs were in uproar.

I know some families which are Mone and don't follow Gurmat but they have listened to Gursikh family members views on wearing the Kalgi. As a result of this the family put on the Kalgi at home and took some photos but BEFORE entering the Gurdwara the sisters took off the Kalgi in the Gurdwara car park. The least one could do is not wear the Kalgi at the Gurdwara to show respect to our King, Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee Maharaaj.

a very straight forward answer, within sikhi kalgi is STRONGLY associated with shri guru gobind singh sahib, so when one wears one it sorta looks like they are imitating guru sahib. now, i dont need to tell you what is happening in punjab to that raam rahim guy.

you can turn the question around to them, why only the kalgi? why not a chola or khula dhara ???? i doubt they'll have answers

actually, I am against the concept of today: "Dhol,Bhangra,Meat Sharab in marriage palaces and Maharaj jis Parkash too," i am against that.. on one side the couple has a SIKH-marriage in Gurudwara and on the other side the same persons and their families go to marriage palaces to dance and enjoy and show how much money they have

Kalgi: what i have seen, is that the Kalgi is removed of the Mans Dastaar before entering Gurudwara Sahib ji....

Maybe I'm just confused but what is wrong with having a celebration after anand kharag where there is dancing and that type of celebration? I'm not disputing that having alcohol and meat is contrary but why is the other stuff?

when one wears kalgi on marriage its more a tradition and existed since ages ... and also all kaums jathedars wore kalgis like jassa singh ramgarhia nawab kappor singh ... even maharaja ranjit singh and maharaja bhupinder singh of patiala ... so all of them imitating guru sahib ???
