Waheguroo Jee Kaa Khalsa Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!

I m sure everyone in here had to to sit next to a non-vegetarian sometime in their life and even eat with them. At work or at school or where ever. wat do u guys think? According rehit maryada we are not even supposed to hang out with people who eat meat or smoke or drink so wat do u do to avoid them?

In the western country wen u meet someone its considered kinda rude if u don't shake the other person's hand so wat do we do? most of the time u r not even sure if the other person drinks/smokes.

wat about second hand smoke? you are passing by a smoking area .. you hold ur breath for certain amount of time and then u have to breath again and u end up inhaling that smoke... I feel sick to my stomach and try to inhale as little as possible but it doesn't work. For example the airport and bus stops are the worst.. that may vary in different countries.

I m in a situation where I try to avoid other people sitting with me with their non-veg food but sometimes its just not avoidable... Even tho it makes me sick I'd just finish my food and just get up as quickly as possible...

I want to know ur input on wat u sangat think and wat do u do in everyday life? How do u deal with it?

1st n 4most : rehit maryada is 100% mandatory for us

now on another note, it becomes sometimes nearly impossible to avoid such situations...in such a case, i think one must do ardas and ask gurujee to keep one in His bhana...u can ask forgiveness although it may not be ur fault...i hope that shud be ok...sangat plzz come up with more input as these are thoughts from a murakh.

That was good one singhani...lol ;):(

I think sikhs need to take it easy and stop thinking that if they sit besides meating eaters they become aa pivtaar(impure)... thats another bhramanic ritual... yet we are soo quick to blame the bhramins and not look at "ourselves"

hate to stir up a riot or war but i know many gursikhs that eat meat. And what about helping out poor homeless people. I'm sure they do a lot of "dirty" things just to survive like eating meat so I guess GurSikhs cannot help out the poor becuase they are impure. The Guru would sit next to any person, pure or impure, you are not to judge, you are Waaheguru's creation, not the creator, so concentrate on being a good Sikh yourself rather than worrying about other's purity. Some people really take these things too far to the point where it is just like Brahmans where only certain people can eat with you and only certain people can associate with you. If this was the attitude of our Gurus they would never have gotten very far with the message of Sikhi.

So basically we are losing the foundation of Sikhi which says that we are all God's creation and God resides in all of us. So of we are around someone who eats meat then that person is no longer your brother or sister? Hindus practice things against Sikhi but that did not stop Guru Teg Bahadur from giving Shaheedi toprotect their right to worship. Please give up this elitist Gursikh attitude, I do not know where you people are getting all this hankar and ritualistic beliefs.

is a patit, who has taken amrit and committed a kurahat, and is one of the 5 groups not to socialise wiht, still not a creation of god?

if such a person was suffering a mental breakdown and needed consoling, or was poor and needed help, would you speak to him, even tho socialising with such a person blatantly infringes the rehat?

would guru gobind singh eat from such a person, or reject him as it would infringe the rehat?

i personally have semi answers to the above but not clearly and in no way definately right or wrong.

just someting to think about.......as for ur dilemma bravekhalsa ji i am not the person to ask lol.....i am surrounded by bad sangat most the time.......at my school there are no gursikhs my age, or even kesadharis my age. so i am always sitting next to someone eating stinky fish or something. if i was an amritdhari, i would have broken my rehat alot by now............... ;)

e will make sikhi into other faith that as gone off the path.

There's a big difference in hanging out and merely sitting with someone. Right?

Moreover I think the Rehitnaams talk about not doing 'sangat' of those who have knowingly broken their code of conduct, for those who have never even taken it (non amrittharis), what fault could it be of them?

Could you please also quote the rehitnaama/hukamnaama which explicitly states that we are not supposed to hang out/do sangat of those who eat meat? Not saying one doesn't exist, but if it does we can use it to counter the UK 'nangs' ;)
