actually, i think its just a way of committing yourself for some time everyday.

so you can say, hey, i'm going to do 10 or 15 or 20 japji sahib paath everyday, assuming it takes you about 15 mins to do japji sahib once, it'll take anywhere from 2.5 hours to 5 hours :)

but to KKV, i'm not sure about the 40 day thing. i mean guru sahib listens to our ardaas and the problem disappears, will we just stop doing paath then? that doesn't seem right.

_Singh in testing times_ ,

I understand your situation fully. Reason. My sister has this depression problem. You see this problem will never go off and is life long. Reason. for some reason earlier in persons life, one keep thinking /worried / about things that make her chemical flow too much off from brain. These chemicals smooth our feeling when we are tense. If thought too much then this overflow make flaw in brain. People still do not understand, depression is new big problem that is coming up fast especially in the modern day life.

The best treatment is to keep her near to the environment that makes her comfortable. No guesses. Near to her family. So try get job near the place ur in-laws stay in long run. Or make sure her brother get house near to your house so that their family members can keep coming & meet her.

My sister got married . I have same problem. I came on hsmp visa to UK. earning good amount. But for my sister , I will have to move to Canada even on less salary( since they have move to Canada on point systems), currently just waiting for Canada point system call.. Tomorrow if his husband decided to move back to India. I do not have any choice but to move back to India. My luck , myself & my brother-in law both are in IT so getting good jobs anywhere is not a problem.

Things you can do is

1> Talk bit sensibly in day to day life.

2> make sure u have internet broadband connection. And same at your in-laws house. Using Skype , let them have video chat . Taking on phone is not enough. Video chatting for 1-2 hours every 3 rd day helps a lot.

But in long run try live close to your in-laws/her brother area.

God willing , my sister is bless with a son. And family life is okay. But I know, as a brother, this is life long responsibility to live close to her.

Hello? Hi? How are you? Was I talking to you, KKW? I don't believe I was, but since you called me a "stalker", I'll say this...

AND you need to know when to keep your little fingers off the keyboard. Not everything you have stored in your brain needs to be expressed in the open. You really don't make sense a lot of times and I feel the need to correct you, so people aren't mislead. In the end, I don't really care either way, but am just killing time at work, so whatever. Call me what you want, and I'll just laugh all the way to the bank. :)Yawn Yawn Yawn Yawnnnnnnnnn

I just realized, after nearly a year, that perhaps me and you are just total opposites as far as sikhi is concerned. It's a real shame.

number one: this is a forum you can't EXACTLY make a direct comment unless you address the user - so you cnt exactly pull out the "I wern't talkin to YOU" card...

number two: I speak what i THINK am not scared to let ppl know what my opinion is, most people in this world are to concerned about how people will think of them and how they won't "fit in" - wat i say is wat i think - as for you you've editted your post bout 5 times to make it sound "right"....

number three: you can't CORRECT someones opinion you can only agree or disagree with it

number four: as for the *edited* comment me and my Bhenjee's know exactly what am chattin bout..so lets not get into that...

finally number five: what you mean "its a shame??" To me your just a Bhajee n nuffin else..2 many people take comments on forums WAY serious....as far as ANYTHINGS concerned i prefer to be opposite....

oh yeh i almost forget to say - the whole thing about the exact numbers is like to sort beat it into ur mind - like when you KNOW you got a worry and you need something from Vaheguroo to make it all better we do the Paat with like Ik Man Ik Chith we put ALL that concentration and pyaar into it...the Sankat Mohchan Shabadh doesnt mean 'YOU HAVE TO DO THAT MANY OTHERWISE YOUR ARDHAAS ISNT GOING TO WORK' it means like you should try to show that much commitment and EARN your fal...

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
