Your question is a bit like asking whether the Khalsa could have made common cause with Abdali? Or helped to resurrect the Mughal empire in 1857? What does the Khalsa have in common with Al Qaeda? Or for that matter the insurgents? Could the Khalsa ever be a party to the killing of innocent people? Could the Khalsa be an ally to people who think nothing of using disabled women to set of bombs that kill innocent people?

Who said anything about Sikhs helping out insurgents? To be clear, I was referring to Iraqi people who are caught in middle between American/British armies and insurgents. These people are being killed by both sides. So my question is, should Sikhs help/protect these people?

Dalsingh101, you hit the jackpot. Punjabi Link, that's an interesting question, for anyone contemplating that question I think they need to take some time to themselves and reflect on whether modern armies serve and protect the people or safeguard the interest a rich wealthy a elite.

The Khalsa is essentially a peoples army, I think even beyond the Iraq conflict Sikhs should oppose the dominiance of a few who are continuously motivated by their greed for more maya. Regardless, very interesting question, I would say we should oppose the foreign polices and agendas of both the British and American Armies, yet be hesitatnt to support insurgents, without a basic understanding of what it is they are fighting for. I think when really taking the question to heart, that the Khalsa would not have allegience to either, since both seem to be driven by trivial factors.

Cool.

So, do you guys think Sikhs should be helping out Iraqis to fight against British and American army?

Brother it seems of late we can't even defend ourselves against aggressors let alone help anyone else. I think we need to concentrate on getting our own strength and numbers up before we even contemplate helping anyone. This is not being selfish but realistic. It's like the old saying goes "You can't really help anyone else until you can help yourselves"

We need to good values of our culture to permeate in all of our hearts which is easier said than done because humans seem to have a natural bias towards selfishness from what I'm seeing.

Word. Sikh community is too weak, spoiled, judgmental, cold-blooded and soft now. There are too many messed up lot in Sikh community who are more about money, cars and jewelery than they're when comes to helping out the weak and poor. This is why I don't like associate with too many Sikhs these days and strangely enough, I tend to relate to other communities more than Sikh community. We don't have enough "balls" in Sikh community anymore. Sikhs have become soft as butter these days. LOL

The horrors of the world take place because of Human Selfishness. It's as simple as that. My Dad often talks about how when he was a kid, most kids thought that by 2010, the world would be similar to a Eutopia. But now he realises that a Utopia is simply not possible because people are too selfish to help their NEIGHBOURS forget anyone else. As time has gone on the world has gotten worst in Kalyug.

Socialism simply won't work - I'm not saying this cos I'm anti- this or that or pro w/e - because people always want more than they have. Socialism (looking at Marx's theories) is about making a balance so that people become equal under the law. As a thought it sounds amasing but the problem is it can never happen...Here's a story that might help me to explain:

Recently I went to a gurudwara where most of my youth Sangat go. The youth are frowned upon at this Gurudwara and change is a big no no here, it is evident. An Bibi at the Gurudwara basically does/controls the Seva taking place. She recently took a young Singh under her wing and decided to teach him Seva and give him Seva to do. Now this SIngh at the time never really 'hung out' with the other Youths until much more recently, and the Bibi notcied this. One day the Singh decided he would teach us Sukhasan Seva of Maharaj, we went to the Gurudwara but he found that his Key would no longer work in the Rumalla door. Without even telling him, the Bibi changed the lock on the door, didn't give him a spare key and gave his Seva to somebody else.

What I'm trying to say is, if we are not even equal in a GURUDWARA, how can we be equal in a Socialist state?

Somebody always has more to eat, more power, more control.

Somebody always carries the key.

Capitalism has it's problems sure, but is it not fair to say that if you work hard for your money, you have a right to what you please? Whyy should the Government take away an industry which has been a part of your ancestry since before you can remember? THe problem like I said, is selfishness...like Guru Ji said, work hard for your money sure but make a difference too, do something with it, don't get caught up in Maya there are plenty of things we can do to help Iraqi's 'caught in between' insurgents and gov. forces.

I hope I didnt just rant on this one and y'all get my point... lol if you have any questions about it lemme know, cos I know I can be confusing at times :D

The bottom line is that Singhs should NOT naively stick their noses in businesses that they do not understand properly. That way we can avoid inadvertently joining corrupt wars like some of our unfortunate uneducated ancestors did.

Let the panth grow numerically, physically and INTELLECTUALLY! Let jerks fight their own battles. We have enough of our own to contend with right now.
