Sikhism grew out of that what was revealed to Guru Nanak. It is not based on the philosophies of Islam and Hindiusm. It is revealed (Dhur Ki Bani) theology. It is not mixed and matched philosophy. Theology of Sikhism is based on what was revealed by Nirankaar/ Waheguru to Guru Nanak.

When Guru Nanak was only 13 years old, divine light in him was recognized even by Rai Bullar Bhatti. Rai Bullar was a devout Muslim and one of the biggest feudal lords in South Asia at that time. If the religion were to be constituted by taking something from Islam and something from Hinduism, it could not have been done by a boy merely of thirteen years (13 years) of age. Rai Bullar Bhatti became his disciple at that time. Rai Bullar Bhatti is considered to be the second person to have recognized the divine light within Guru Nanak and considered to be the second disciple of Guru Nanak (first being Bibi Nanaki, the elder sister of Guru Nanak). Rai Bullar became so impressed by the divine qualities of Guru Nanak that he donated (transferred) land which comes to about 19000 acres now. This is one of the most fertile pieces of land on this planet. It situates around Nankana Sahib in Pakistan now. A devout Muslim like Rai Bullar Bhatti, who was also one of the most powerful lords in the country would not have given that much to a 13 to 15 year old person who mixed and matched just the two religions . As Guru Nanak never took possession of that land, the land still is tilled by the descendants of Rai Bullar Bhatti in the name of Guru Nanak.

Note: After nearly 500 years of tilling that land the Bhatti clan wanted to have the title transferred to their name. But n 1990s when the case went before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Court did not transfer the title; and land will continue to be in the name of Guru Nanak for ever. A story regarding that is posted in the next post

and it is also posted at
