Maya - Are We Living In Hell?

maya is all around us in all sorts of sinful actions. it has come to me the thought that are we actually livinging in hell? think about this, i know its not probably true, but as sikhs if we have come from another live form because we have not reunited with god, where would that put us now?

we are trying to break free from all the maya in this world, not any other world, but the world we live in today to reunite with god.

further, where has all this maya come from? with the christians there is a devil and god, sins are seen as the devils work, but with sikhs, how did maya come to our world and what was its cause?

Hmmm well just recently i had a talk with an older gursikh and he explained things quite clearly:

The actual definition of hell is to be separated from god. When one is in hell, he/she is not in the presence of god. So in reality, hell is within us all. If we were all fully in the presence of god, we would all be jevan mukat.

:) Its hard concept to understand, i thought about it for a few min and had a headache :@

As for maya part, sikhitothemax to the rescue

Jio there is physical hell...one goes to hell due to the state of the mind....

Once I heard this Shabad Sri Ram Nama Uchar mana , a-gay Jaam Daal Be-gham Gha-na...ang 155 of shri Guru Granth Sahib ji

and There was another one Malik jo Kanee Soo-ne the Moh Ve-kha-lay A-yeah ( Shiek Farid ji)

Some may argue oh! hell is mention to create fear ..well truth is Guru Sahib ji has stated the truth and the law of the universe according to which this duneya goes on.....not put fear but to alert us so that our maan/mind from being a-chaat can become soo-chay-ate

If still in doubt one day we all have to leave...

Hell is a state of existence where without the physical the Attma simply works according to those tendencies which were strongest, most paramount, encrypted in to the person during their natural life. Because part of the physical mind encapsulates the thought process, rational, etc is no longer being used the only actions in a hellish existence is one based on desires that are rooted in the existence of the living and the desire to live once again. Such Hellish existence can last for thousands of years, but then the unconscious Attma does not understand time and space as we do.

One wonders why God detached our souls from the divine in the first place. Of course, we'll never know the answer, but it sure is frustrating that he did so.

So he gave us the rules of the game, and indeed the objective, and we are participants, willingly or not, so do we play without knowing WHY the game started? That's the question that blights the minds of the unblessed. Yeah, me.

We are not living in hell! Hell is an actual place of existence. Please refer to the gurbani quotes below:

Maru M.5 (ang 1003)

EAMkwir auqpwqI ]

The One Universal Creator Lord created the creation.

kIAw idnsu sB rwqI ]

He made all the days and the nights.

...

qRY gux kIAw pswrw ]

He formed the expanse of the entire universe from the three gunas, the three qualities.

nrk surg Avqwrw ]

People are incarnated in heaven and in hell.

In this shabad, it describes hell (ang 92):

ibKm Gor pMiQ cwlxw pRwxI riv sis qh n pRvysM ]

The path you must walk is treacherous and terrifying, O mortal; neither the sun nor the moon shine there.

This next shabad describes how it comes after sinful living (ang 385)

mnmuKu jy smJweIAY BI auJiV jwey ]

Even if the self-willed manmukh is instructed, he stills goes into the wilderness.

ibnu hir nwm n CUtsI mir nrk smwey ]5]

Without the Lord's Name, he shall not be emancipated; he shall die, and sink into hell. ||5||

This shabad reminds us that we are born in hell or heaven:

swsqR byd pwp puMn vIcwr ]

The Shaastras and the Vedas speak of sin and virtue;

nrik surig iPir iPir Aauqwr ]2]

they say that mortals are reincarnated into heaven and hell, over and over again. ||2||
