wow i never knew about that. i have always thought the brother assisting sister seemed a bit like christian weddings where the father walks with the bride to the altar (i dunno just something ive thought)

it would be nice to know how different our weddings are compared to puratan times.

The only other difference that i have been told of with the weddings is the fact that the couple used to stand for the lavan and do matha teekh after each one, that way they were bowing in from of the SGGS. Whereas now we seem to walk around not only the SGGS but also the Giani whilst doing the lavan...

There are a few elders that in my family that got married this way....

Any way back on topic... Sitar girl penji said it perfectly, as a kid i used to see other people running around, they used to go and stand outside, and naturally you want to be with them, but my mum made me sit with her. Which was the best way for me to learn.

But bringing your kids to Gurdwara is the first step, i know of some kids who cant even speak Punjabi, and i feel so bad for their grand parents cause they have no way of communicating with them.

There is a 9 year old at my local gurdwara, who goes to the punjabi class. He dosnt know any punjabi, cant speak it, i feel so bad for him. His parents have put him in a great academic school (tuition fees per year are v high!!), his english vocabulary is great. But he has no knowledge about his religion / culture / where he came from. He told me that he only has to learn punjabi because his dad has property in India and when he gets older his dad didnt want him to 'embarass' him by not knowing any punjabi.

It wasnt his fault no one spoke punjabi with him as a kid, he's now finding it difficult to learn.

the worst is people having loud conversations on their phone... I understand if you forgot to put phone on silent or switched off but there's no need to answer it and have a full blown convo

we have a sakhi class here for the kids....and every time sum uncles phone rings!!! n hes sitting there shoutin HALO!!!!! HA KEE HOYA MEH GURUDWAREH BETA AH!! its so bad!! the kids just turn round and stare at him...its lyk they tryna tel him alo!! were in the darbar sahib!!!! he sitl dnt ger it!!! lol the kdis r lyk 7-10 years old n hes lyk 70!!!!

I think they should let you, there is no issues about it, its all Gurbani (i think lol).

If the Gurdwara do allow you to put it up, i strongely suggest you (and anyone else) to put it up as it will raise the awareness of the punishments of talking while Gurbani is being recited = ]

Is it Gurbani? I did not find it in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

ahhh sowiii!! im not da best with all the Gurbani stuff and that lol.

Still, it cant do any harm can it? It is telling people what will happen if they talk while Bani is being recited, and i doubt any Gurdwara would stop you from putting it up.
