Damdami Taksal Rehit-

Recommended Posts

should we all be sarbloh bibeki then really!!!!!

iv come across sarbloh bibek but people normally say that its an additional rehit if you want to keep it, but the rehit maryada does not say if you want to. Its says a direct command.

so if people follow damdami taksal maryada which i know of many, why aint they bibek really???? is it picking and choosing....

That goes for me and you.

'Preeti' Bhenjee you asked about how if the AmrithDharee we sit near doesn't follow the Reyath Maryadhaa and you didn't know; well I doubt Vaaheguroo is going to penalise you for sitting near someone who doesn't follow the Reyath Maryadhaa becuase you didn't know. Its about when you KNOW that the person sitting near you is like a proper Manmukh, and you chose to sit up right close and be in their Sangath.

Our Gurus did sangat with everyone and never judged, so we have no right to label people as "Manmukhs" and then try and place ourselves on a higher level than them by saying we are too good for their company. Let's work on brining the panth together instead of forming our own little "clubs". Nobody really knows if the person sitting next to them is a Gursikh or Manmukh for sure and if you think you know, then you are just judging them.

the reason people avoid food made by manmukhs is b/c their negative thougth vibes get into the food. It's prefereable to eat from your own hands or from gurmukhs as they do simran while preparing food, which is very beneficial.

Prepackaged foods are factory made, made by machine so it is not made by manmukhs. it certainly seems okay to eat. but not as good as food made by those who do simran.

Again, how do you know if someone is a manmukh? Is it because they aren't amritdhari? Should only amritdhari people be allowed to do seva then? I don't understand this concept at all.

Very easy my brother. If you see your cook swearing/ gossiping etc while cooking your food, then he/she is most likely to be a manmukh and the food is best avoided.

As far as not doing sangat of manmukhs - until you're at a level where you can change manmukhs into Gurmukhs, like Guru Ji can, we shouldn't try to copy Guru Ji but obey them instead.

If Guru Ji in the form of 5 Pyare has given someone this Rehat to follow, they have no choice and should not question it.

There is a reason behind all this but it only becomes clear after much kamaiiy (I've been told).

Most of the times, you don't see your cooks though, so how do you know what they are doing?

If you DO know though.......

Also, this might be why some Singhs try to avoid eating out? These are the rules- our job is to follow them as best we can. In instances where we're not sure all we can do is Ardas.

this is called bibek buddhi, differientiating between false and true. We are allowed to make judgments along these lines, even judging people. for example, we must judge who is good or bad sangat for use to spend time with.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!

    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
