English Translation :

SHALOK, FIRST MEHL:

If one accepts the concept of impurity, then there is impurity everywhere. In cow-dung and wood there are worms. As many as are the grains of corn, none is without life. First, there is life in the water, by which everything else is made green. How can it be protected from impurity? It touches our own kitchen. O Nanak, impurity cannot be removed in this way; it is washed away only by spiritual wisdom. || 1 || FIRST MEHL: The impurity of the mind is greed, and the impurity of the tongue is falsehood. The impurity of the eyes is to gaze upon the beauty of another man s wife, and his wealth. The impurity of the ears is to listen to the slander of others. O Nanak, the mortal s soul goes, bound and gagged to the city of Death. || 2 || FIRST MEHL: All impurity comes from doubt and attachment to duality. Birth and death are subject to the Command of the Lord s Will; through His Will we come and go. Eating and drinking are pure, since the Lord gives nourishment to all. O Nanak, the Gurmukhs, who understand the Lord, are not stained by impurity. || 3 || PAUREE: Praise the Great True Guru; within Him is the greatest greatness. When the Lord causes us to meet the Guru, then we come to see them. When it pleases Him, they come to dwell in our minds. By His Command, when He places His hand on our foreheads, wickedness departs from within. When the Lord is thoroughly pleased, the nine treasures are obtained. || 18 ||

Thursday, 18th Vaisaakh (Samvat 540 Nanakshahi) -- Thursday, 18th Vaisaakh (Samvat 540 Nanakshahi) (Page : 472)

Thank you for a direct quote from our Guru.

Basically 'bibek' is against our Guru's teachings

Strange how only 1 person has commented on the above saying of our Guru.

But a lot of people will still carry on with 'bibek' because they value their jatha's maryada more than Guru Granth Sahib Ji. They may bow before Guru Granth Sahib, but they do not follow Guru Ji's teachings.

a veer has explained this nicely on another forum:

"furthermore, food bibek is nothing like sootak. sootak, as a concept, revolves around the idea that everyone and everything apart from a a brahmin is lower than a brahmin and therefore liable to defile a brahmin's godliness. therefore suchum is of paramount importance. maharaaj jee criticises them saying that without truth, they are impure, everything they do is impure and everything they eat is impure. maharaaj jee also explaines how everything they come into contact with, despite their suchum-inspired efforts, is techinically impure...they as truluy impure people actually make others and other things impure due to their insipid and high-handed nature.

according to gurmat, impurity/impure refers to that which is not in accordance with vaheguroo's hukam...it is only living within hukam that one becomes pure. therefore, the khalsa will only take food and keep strong sangat with those individuals who live within hukam i.e. chak a(n)mrit, make sincere efforts to jap naam, keep all of dasmesh pita jee's compulsory rehit, give dasvandh, do seva etc. only that food is 'pure', is truly 'khalis' (pure) and for consumption by the 'khalsa' (the pure), which has been prepared by maharaaj jee's rehitvaan khalsa, who jap naam/recite gurbaanee breath by breath. because this food has been prepared within the hukam of vaheguroo, it is blessed with the shaktee of vaheguroo's nazar, of their grace...consuming such sanctified food positively effects those who consume it. it literally has the energy to encourage those who eat it to adopt the hukams of vaheguroo."

>>>>>

bibek is not about physical purity but mind's purity, and this rehit totally revolves around naam abhyaas, it is a useless practice without doing naam abhyaas over the food. therefore considering this it doesnt compare to the pakhand of the brahmins. guru ji is talking about only true purity being obtained from naam and this is exactly what the rehit is about.

also if we understand this shabad how you want us to understand it, then guru nanak dev ji was wrong for not accepting food from malik bhago. guru ji does not contradict himself!

>>>>>

"But a lot of people will still carry on with 'bibek' because they value their jatha's maryada more than Guru Granth Sahib Ji."

>>>>>

what jatha? like mentioned earlier many jathas/gursikhs have preserved the basic rehit, it is not the invention of a single group,

Sorry i totally disagree with your interpretation.

You are distorting Guru Ji's sayings in order to mould them into the practice of bibek.

Whenever Guru Granth Sahib Ji is quoted to prove actions against some aspects of rehat - people say Guru Ji is refering to Brahmins or Yogis. If that is the case, why do we bother trying to further ourselves by learing from Guru Granth Sahib Ji - we should leave Guru Granth Sahib Ji to Brahmins.

Guru Ji is in fact, imho, teaching us all but using examples. We need to apply the teachings of Guru Ji to our life - but all we can come up with is - "that does not apply to us, it applies to Hindus, or Brahmins or Yogis..

In the above shabad, Guru Ji clearly states impurity is removed by spiritual wisdom. Leaving everything else aside - do we get spiritual wisdom by bibek or by contemplating on Guru Granth Sahib Ji - Naam, meditation?

I could go on but i won't.

if i distorted true meaning of gurbani then maharaj maaf karn and kirpa karn to bless us all with giaan of bani.

you are correct that gurbani applies to all, and maharaj teaches us all a lesson. but practices of brahmins is not comparable to bibek.

from the outset it may look like they are the same, and if we believe so then fair enough we are entitled to our opinions, but this doesnt show a true understanding of the rehit. like mentioned before it is not physical impurity we are protecting ourselves from as maharaj explains this very clearly that impurity exists everywhere.

no where has anyone mentioned that spiritual wisdom comes from bibek, you again are correct that this can only come from naam. and this naam is exactly what this rehit revolves around.

if anything this shabad supports concept of bibek, as impurity lies everywhere and only naam can cleanse our surroundings and cleanse our mind. this is the basic concept behind bibek, naam makes food in to amrit, eating this food acts as a catalyst to your naam abhyaas.

maharaj condemns that which is not good for our kamaee, bibek if kept properly can accelerate ones kamaee. but we must keep this rehit in perspective and not make it the centre of our jeevan, only naam should be centre of our jeevan. as correctly stated by yourself

now thats just my opinion.

we should not insult countless gurmukhs from across the panth who have kept this rehit by saying they do not understnd or follow bachan of guru granth sahib ji, again everyones understanding of bani is going to be different but to say they dont follow guru jis teachings is a bold accusation to make, when many of these gurmukhs had/have an avastha that we can only dream of.

vjjk vjkf- sangat ji i came across this rehit maryada on a taksal website-

Five not to be associated with

(i.e. not to eat with or marry your children to)

1. Tobacco users

People who smoke or use any form of tobacco (or drugs) are not to be associated with.

2. Female Infanticide

Those who kill their daughters at birth:

bRhmx kYlI Gwqu kM\kw AxcwrI kw Dwnu ]

iPtk iPtkw koVu bdIAw sdw sdw ABmwnu ]

"The following are all major sins:

Killing a Brahmgyani, killing a cow46, killing or selling your daughter,

And eating from a person who has no moral discipline.

Anyone who commits any of these sins has committed thousands of sins,

This egotistical individual will be reprimanded thousands of times."

(SGGSJ Ang 1413)

kMinAw ko mwry mony ko kMinAW dyvy so qnKwhIAw ]

"They who kill their daughters and marry their daughters to those who cut their hair are punishable." (Rehatnama Bhai Deya Singh Jee)

3. Those who sell their daughters

Those who receive money for the marriage of their daughters and take dowry.

4. Those that cut some of their hair from their head

5. Those who completely shave all their hair from their face and head

A Hukamnama from Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib excommunicated Narakdharees/Fake Nirankaris on 30 June 1978.

SO DOES THIS MEAN WE CANT EAT FOOD FROM LIKE TAKE AWAYS, SUPERMARKETS ETC??? BECAUSE THE PEOPLE MAKING THE FOOD ARE MONEH(4. Those that cut some of their hair from their head)

ANY VEECHAR ON THIS REHIT.............

this makes me laff, talk about OTT another classic reason for people to be anti-taksali!!!
