How To Select The Punj Singhs

Recommended Posts

The first Punj Pyare were selected by Guru Gobind Singh Jee. That was dictatorship of the Guru and rightfully so.

But these days I have seen that in some jathebandis, 5 singhs are selected by sangat(a form of democracy) whereas in Budha Dal, I have heard 5 singhs are selected by the jathedaar( which is a form of dictatorship).

According to Gurmat, which is the correct way of choosing 5 singhs ?

Amrit Sanchars are the key to the charrdi kala of the panth and charrdikala of the 5 singhs is one of the key factors in an amrit sanchar.

Dude judjing from this comment and the previous comment, where you posted a thread on meat and marijuana, i can say for sure that your basics about Sikhi are not right. You have no primary knowledge about Sikh, Sikhi, Rehat and most important Guru-Panth Khalsa. I would seriously advise that you spend some time reading Sikh literature and contemplate about taking Pahul. You are going by hearsay, which is the first thing to discard when you take Pahul. I fear that your wearing kirpan is going to be no different than wearing of 'janeau' by hindus. Don't take offense, but please just go by emotions, the world won't end if you don't take pahul for another year or more.

As mentoned before, the first Panj Pyare were not ordered by Guru Sahib but instead offered there tan man and dhan to the Guru. I see no harm in having sangat select the panj, however most gurdwaras designate one or two people to be in charge of organizing amrit sanchar and abhilakees usually go to them to submit their name for next amrit sanchar. Hence, those organizers are the ones who select the Panj for the Amrit Sanchar ceremony. If the sangat decides to nominate the Panj then thats okay too, provided that the people being selected adherently stick to full rehat.

Dear veer, ur post is funny. I agree that I am a very neech insaan but can u tell me which comment of mine in thread of meat and marijuina u dint like. I cant even remember if I posted in such a thread.

Secondly, as far as I know, sikhi is all about Guru Dictatorship. Guru has ABSOLUTE power and no autority can challenge it.

The selection of first 5 punj pyare was all the leeelaaa or mauj of Dashmesh Pita.

I just wanted to know that these days we seem to be following 2 methods of selecting 5 singhs, one in which the jathedaar chooses 5 singhs, and the other in which sangat chooses the 5 singhs, i just wanted to know which is more correct according to gurmat ?

You don't even know about the word Guru Panth. Guru was absolute but he was not a dictator, it is a pity that you cannot find a better word. By the way, panj piara gave pahul to Guru Gobind Singh and Guru ji said wherever panj piara are present see it as my saroop.

By the way how will you know the avastha and inner feelings of the panj piara, selected whichever way. During gurujis time, there were only a few thousand Singhs and they changed the course of history of India. Right now there are millions of Singhs and they cannot change a thing. All are busy booking a berth in sachkhand.

And i am sorry i mistook you for someone else about meat and marijuana. http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=38314 I apologise for the mistake :p

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
