Sikhnet Misguiding Youth...Again.

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Sikhnet has always been giving false information/advice to Sikh Youth. They don't even take time to ask some older, wiser, Sikhs. Instead they just post their own views and pass them off as being 'Sikhi views'...i think they should stop answering questions, because they are giving people bad advice, although they are not doing it on purpose, but lots of stuff they say is against Rehat/Gurmat. For example, someone asked if it was ok to touch tabacco, liquor, meat etc....and they said that there is nothin wrong with it...

A Sikh is NOT allowed to touch tobacco/liquor products. Once,Guru Gobind Singh Ji's horse stopped dead in his tracks and wouldn't budge when it approached a certain feild. Guru Ji asked the Sikhs to check the field, and they discovered it was a tobacco field. If Guru Ji's horse refused to go through a tobacco field, what gives us the right to touch cigarettes?

Sikhnet needs to get themselves together, the people who ask questions should be directed to a message board, where they can get views of many Gursikhs like you, instead of the limited views of one person.

i dont see anything wrong with THIS reply.. although i do remember a few replies to which i disagree

I have heard that we are unable to touch meat products, milk, cigarettes and alcohol is this true? By this I mean that we do not consume the alcohol and cigarettes but just touch the product?

(REPLY) Sat Nam. There is no prohibition about "touching" things that I know of. The word "touching" may have been used to emphasize staying away from those things. And certainly, we can and do drink milk. Milk is not meat. We do not consume meat products (dead flesh of animals, fish, and poultry) nor do we smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. SP

touching a beer can doesnt make u lose ur senses... however i do agree u should stay away from those things

Jee, it does not say anywhere that you must wash your hands "5 times" with soap.

If you are doing seva for gurdwara and find a cigarette on gurdwara property, are you forbidden from throwing it away? Do you refuse to serve a homeless man because he has been drinking?

Sikhism is a common-sense religion. We are banned from USING drugs, yes. We are banned from forcing others to use them, yes. But touching something has NO effect on you, and if you do it in the name of seva, infact picking up those "drugs" may be good for you.

Its his KAMAI - his honest living - he's nto sellign tobaco because he WANTS TO.

If he has a CHOICE and finds another job - then i say take the other one - even tho that might mean less pay - however if that the LAST OPTION - then isn't that okey ecause of honest earning - isntead of sitting at home doing nothing?

bhull chukk maaf

OK... listen to Bhai Sahib Bhai Jeevan Singh Ji's track : "Rehatnama"...Bhai Sahib does vichar about Rehat for 1 hour...in there he says (translation), "If someone touches these things, even by accident, he/she must do a kesi-ishnan."

Also, a long time ago, Sant Baba Harnam Singh (Rampur Khera), came to vancouver. He was going to do Katha at the Gurudwara, and before doing it, he went for a little walk outside. A white guy was smoking and walked by Sant Ji, and when he exhaled he blew a puff of smoke at Sant Ji (not on purpose)...Immediately Baba Harnam Singh Ji went to someones house and did a full kesi-ishnan, and did Katha later on that day...he didn't even go back in the Gurudwara!...thats Chardi Kala, and both Bhai Sahib, and Baba Harnam Singh Ji are very Chardi Kala...i will listen to what they have to say. I will not touch a beer bottle, or cigarette...if its on the Gurudwara property, i wood use a broom and dust pan...we can't touch this stuff!!!

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
