Should We Keep Caste Distinctions In The Panth?

Recommended Posts

Caste is a reality in the panth. But we have a choice (especially in the west) to perpetuate it (this means continue for those that don't read enough...lol).

Should we continue as is the norm right now or do someting different? Please share your views on this matter.

it's a load of BS (bakwaas)

anythin outside of Gurmat that tells you one person who follows Guru Granth Sahib Ji is inferior to another purely on their birth is rubbish.

we all know that some of the best GurSikhs in history have come from totally random backgrounds.

muslims actively invite and involve people from other backgrounds that learn about their faith & if they convert get them to preach. we should do similar rather than show our insecurities as at present & invite people of all backgrounds be they mazhabi/vanjara/dalit/yellow/black/white/etc to learn about sikhi & do parchaar as a positive strength and involve them in forefront sewa.

Cool. Sikhlionz.

I would like to hear from the pro-caste Sikhs as well. I know you are probably the majority. Please express yourselves.

Of course, caste has no place in Sikhi. What these so-called Ravidassia Baba's were doing is no doubt a direct challenge to the Satkaar of Maharaaj. Such actions cannot be tolerated. However. taking a step back, Punjabi Sikhs are certainly at fault for driving away their Dalit brothers to such Babae, on the basis of the discrimination that our Dalit brothers face in Gurdwaras in Punjab and even in the West! If we all were and are Abhiyaasi, Rehitvaan Sikhs abiding by Maharaaj's Hukam, then these Pakhandi Babae would have no chance of establishing their power. They thrive on the divisions caused by and discrimination due to caste. We Sikhs must end caste-based discrimination ASAP in Gurdwaras all over.

The following was taken from an article on the sikh sangat news page, I think it sums things up perfect:

The media also continue to provoke the situation by portraying the Vienna incident as an issue linked to caste. However, by definition a Sikh is one who believes in one God, the teachings of the ten Sikh Gurus and their utterances contained in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji; and believes it is necessary to take Amrit by Khanda-ki-Pahul bequeathed by the tenth Guru. Those that understand the Sikh faith know those who take Amrit and become part of the Khalsa are deemed to be equal and the Sikh Gurus finished the caste system, which continues to be linked to the Hindu faith and way of life.

You know the reality is that many, if not the majority of Sikhs, including Amritdharis, have retained their caste identity. To say Sikhs do not have a caste system is being either in denial or lying.

Plus why hasn't the caste accepting majority spoken. Come on guys, open up!
