The Need For A Regulation Commitee With In The Uk

A lot of Gurdwaras in the UK are committing Anti-Gurmat activities, there needs to be a legitimate committee set up who has the power and support of the Akal Thakt.

The committee should go to Gurdwaras across the UK and look at safety regulations such as fire and theft prevention.

The state of Suckhand should be checked to see whether it is in a respect manner.

Security issues, such as CCTV, and security guards etc should be looked at as Gurdwars across the UK have become targets of racial abuse.

The Gyanis that work and serve the UK sangat should be regulated by this board, due to the soaring increase in the cases of sexual assault on women and kids by gyanis. These are normally swept under the mat and the gyani is moved on to another Gurdwara in a next town. The sangat there will have no information on the dangers posed by the gyani, until is too late. Every gyani working in the UK should have a I.D card and must have a written report or references when moving from Gurdwara to Gurdwara (like we do when we move jobs or schools)

Why is the Sikh Community in the UK so behind and not using common sense to safeguard our future? These are just small minor deterrents and principals to help us. In the UK we have made money but lost our Sikhi, the Gurdwara for most has become a formality. Violations of the Sikh code of conduct within Gurdwaras are increasing at an alarming rate.

You have made a very good suggestion, especially about Giani's.

I have been involved in work with the UKBA they govern the immigration procedures for getting Giani's into the country. They have made new tighter systems when calling Giani's over and also what to do if something goes wrong. They have stated that any Giani who goes AWOL from work or is found doing anti Gurmat activities even if they are not doing a criminal act-smoking,drinking etc. should be reported to them. If they cannot stay within the requirements of their jobs they can be deported.

If anyone does come across any Giani's doing something anti-Gurmat they should be reported to UKBA so that they can take action.

Historically, looking at the successful dharam morchas within a legislative regulatory arena (handled by our predecessors from 1920s to 1984) the leads were taken by mahapursh's. Morchas were unified and bachans actually meant something. Many of those values have been eroded and hence we now live in a community with numerous split Gurdwaras, broken up by political alliance, caste, rehat maryada, regional origin and age. Look at this way, we’re a community that can fall out with each other and open a new Gurdwara down the road in a matter of days. We are a community that are willing to split the sangat based on our own groups agendas.

Unification is the ultimate problem in the current Sikh community. Until individuals and collective groups are willing to eradicate their own egos and self-interests, only then can we form a dharmic regulatory committee.

I think Rupinder singh has touched on the problem. We are a split community we will not accept the authority of anyone as long as we are the president of a particular Gurdwara. When the Gurdwaras get together - I believe there is a Council of Gurdwaras - but nothing comes of it because nobody can agree upon anything, we all have our own interest at heart.

Even when we have someone who puts himself forward and tries to do something good for the community as a whole, others will shoot him down or critisie him, the normal call being " He does not represent us, who made him the leader?"

That is our problem, we are split and fragmented, unlike say the Jewish community how have a proper council, even a head Rabbi and everything is regulated, they go from synagoge to synagoge and make sure it is up to standard. We cannot do this because we will not accept anybodies authority.

We definately need something along these lines which needs to be set up by some centeral council but who would sign up to it?

Excellent point!!

I know of and have seen many so called Gian's come over to the UK, using the gurdwaras as an excuse to get into the UK, they then start normal jobs to make a livign and leave teh gurdwaras.

I even heard of a "scam" up north about some guys charging people in India 5,000 pounds each to come over as Fake Gian's to the UK.

These scam artists ABUSE their power in the Gurdwaras, to MAKE MONEY from people desperate to come over.

The splits in the kaum at this stage are too evident and will act as a barrier to this committee.Theres too much suspicion and lack of trust between Sikhs to set up any regulation committee. People will assume theres an ulterior motive of the committee.

Also we have set up too many Gurdwaras in this country and we keep opening new ones. Everytime we open a new gurdwara within a mile of another Gurdwara we add more to the problems of the kaum. If people were willing to work with each other and stop having conflicts with each other than we'd have one big united gurdwara in each town instead of the singh sabha, ramgharia, santa da, bhatra, ravidas, afghan and sikh academy.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
