You also need to remember another very important thing Wales. Sikhs have never resorted to picking up arms without first paying a heavy price, or making a massive sacrifice. It was only after the martyrdom of the fifth Guru, Sahib Sri Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj, that the sixth Guru, Sahib Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj instructed Sikhs to raise arms against tyranny and oppression. It was only after the martyrdom of the ninth Guru, Sahib Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Maharaj, that the tenth Guru, Sahib-E-Kamaal Dasmesh Pita Kalgidhar Shahenshah Sarbans Daani Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj ordered Sikhs to carry weapons. Problems in Punjab in the early 80s began only after the martyrdom of 13 Singhs in April 1978, and 2 events of 1984, namely Operation Bluestar in June and the widespread carnage of Sikhs in November after the assassination of Indira Gandhi was enough to blow things up beyond control. The Air India bombing which we've been discussing was blamed on Sikhs, but as suggested above, a book called "Soft Target" exposes the truth behind it. The present Indian Prime Minister who wears a turban and makes the world think he is a Sikh was shameless enough to tell the Sikhs to forget about 1984 and move on, however, in the past 2 weeks, on 2 occasions he has expressed his concern over "anti-India" and "Khalistani" activities in Canada, and has spoken twice to the Canadian premier about it. This is hypocrisy at its best, where on one hand you want people to forget the murder of 5000 plus innocents, yet you are yourself unable to forget the murder of 329 innocents, just because their murder bothers you more than that of those 5000. Its NOT a number game here, its picking sides which is the reflection of dirty Indian politics.

oh, no problem. glad you got the answer you were looking for. any other questions you might have? or other issue that might concern you bro?

No man, im good thank you. I think I get the picture. Didn't know so I thought I would ask... only way I am gonna find out.

To previous poster I apologize for calling it riots, I will use the term genocide in any future discussion. Just didn't know.

Just saw all that stuff and got freaked out. I don't want to raise my kids in any religion that justifies the killing of innocent people for whatever reason or has problem with militancy.

Sikhi doesn't do that (except for fringe groups, like any religion)... I realize that now.. sorry for any offense but didn't know so had to ask.

Thanks,

Wales

Thanks for the reply.

I did not know any of that. I realize my ignorance on this matter... to be honest I was just trying to determine if sikhi justified killing innocents for religion. I realize I was way off base. The plight of sikh people is very important, I just don't know much about it. Again, apologies if my ignorance comes off as being a <banned word filter activated>.

wales, you dont have to be sorry for anything. you simply didnt know the facts. and also, to be honest, you dont have to worry about rasing ur kids up in a religion with militancy or killing or wat ever you want to call it, becasue majority of sikhs right now are the same way. if you speak to any of the people who saw 1984, they will all tell you the same thing, they dont want to see it happen again.

theres a saying, "let the lions worry about doing the hunting" i think ur smart enough to figure it out.

but one bit of advice, dont believe anything you see put up by indian officials, or gov. against sikhs or sikh history. theres a 99.9% chance that its false.

Khalistan is not an issue is Canada. And Air India bombing has and always will be condemned by the Sikhs. There is no justification for killing any innocent person, in Sikhi and is wrong. It's the other way around, save the innocent and put your own life at risk.

Not a single Sikh in all of history has killed an innocent to even recieve a penny.

(though we as sikhs deny it there are terrorist elements in sikhi as there is in all religions)

adhyatmic, where is this coming from? You need to explain this so others can understand your point here, which in my mind is absolutely false.

After consisitent attacks on Dasam Granth by many rogue khalistanis such as dal khalsa, Counicl of khalistan,

Khailstan calling, sikh youth of America etc this movement has been maligned.

This is no more issue before us as the movement has been hijacked by rogues who have no love for sikhism.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
