Who CARES that the P.M. took part in a hindu ceremony???? British PM's and Presidents visit places of worship in other nations and their own, Barack Obama was set to visit Amritsar, so what?!? Manmohan Singh is a Sikh, and the Prime Minister of a nation, of course he's going to attend these ceremonies, if you look to him as a spiritual leader you would have to be a fool, he's a nation leader, he's not the be-all end-all of Sikhi. Let it go people, such immaturity.

Pls give us more info on that.. All sikhs jathabandi stood strong with ranjit singh till end.

- Sohan LaL writes: ' Out of the adversity of his days and his evil character, one Akali drew his sword out of its sheath and rushed towards the maharaja. The orderlies and state servants gathered together on the spot, held that akali in the clutches of interferance and restraint, and brought him before the maharaja' - (Daftar volume 3 page 93)

This dispute with the Akali nihangs began because of talks between the maharajah and Lord William Bentinck (a british representative) over plans to extend their dominion of sindh. The Brits told ranjit singh they had no interest in taking sindh and also told ranjit singh the sikhs could not extend their rule to sindh as it was breaking the treaty of lahore (1809) which said that the southern border of the sikh raj was the sutlej and that it could not be crossed by the sikhs....the akali nihangs wanted the raj to spread to sindh but maharaja ranit singh was neutured by the british and had to obey them....this is why the nihangs were outspokenly hostile and decided ranjit singh could not be forgiven for allowing the Brits to dictate the sikh rajs ambitions

Personally i think if ranjit singh had taken the sikhs to war while he was alive..the nishan sahib would be flying over the whole sub continent

Sounds like a false account, remember there are a lot of fake accounts of people lying about SIkh history for political reasons. The same reason Gupta claims Banda Singh Ji Bahadur never took amrit from Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, all political and false agendas.

Also, that's true, if they had brought war during Maharaja Ranjit Singh's time they would have never EVER got close. Everyone loved and respected Mahraja Ranjit Singh despite him lacking in Gurmat. As for what Akali Phula Singh, he did give lashings to Maharaja Ranjit Singh for going to a mela, but Maharaja Ranjt Singh respected him so much that he took it (in a way may have even been scared). Either way, Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a gem to the nation, he was able to admit mistakes and was an amazing leader due to his decisiveness and experience in war. On top of that he was a very humane leader and treated even the people who lost the wars with love and respect.

My dad told me a story that Maharaja Ranjit Singh's court had a place where people could go to get rice if they couldn't afford it otherwise. A man went and had a huge bouri (bag) and asked a soldier or watchman to help him carry it home. The soldier/watchman denied saying he has to watch after the rice, somehow Maharaja Ranjit Singh heard of this matter and he dressed in a cloak and helped the old man carry it home. The old man said you've helped me so much ji, at least tell me your name. Maharaja Ranjit Singh took off his cloak and showed he was Maharaja Ranjit Singh himself, the man fell to his knees out of thankfulness and respect. This is what Maharaja Ranjit Singh's time was like. There were no assassins or anyone wanting to kill Maharaja Ranjit Singh...the only people the Singhs warned Maharaja Ranjit Singh about were the dograys and the "too equal" of a status given to people of other religions. They were able to stab the backs of the Sikhs, which they later on did.

Sohan Lal was maharaja Ranjit Singh's official biographer, in all likely hood it must have happened as why would Sohan Lal give a false account. Just to clarify the quote

"Out of the adversity of his days and his evil character, one Akali drew his sword out of its sheath and rushed towards the maharaja. The orderlies and state servants gathered together on the spot, held that akali in the clutches of interferance and restraint, and brought him before the maharaja' - (Daftar volume 3 page 93)"

out of the adversity of his days and his evil character is in reference to the Akali not Ranjit Singh.

Maharaja did not once sentance anyone to death for a crime during his reign not even the person who tried to kill him.

"This dispute with the Akali nihangs began because of talks between the maharajah and Lord William Bentinck (a british representative) over plans to extend their dominion of sindh.

The Amir of Sindh was under the protection of the British, thats why he didnt want to invade just like the cis-sutlej states, states ruled by SIKH sardars between the sutlej and jumna. I personally feel the malwa sardars should have joined forces and looked to the Lahore Darbar / Sarkar Khalsaji for protection instead of ensuring their own possesions were safe and allying with the British. That would have strengthed the Sikh nation.

"Also, that's true, if they had brought war during Maharaja Ranjit Singh's time they would have never EVER got close. Everyone loved and respected Mahraja Ranjit Singh despite him lacking in Gurmat. I always thought Akali Phoola Singh Ji, gave lashing to Maharaja Ranjit Singh for marrying a muslim, Moran. He was summoned to akal Takht and there declared a tankyiha, he asked to be forgiven and was given lashes as punishment which he humbly accepted.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh took active participation in the celebrations of all his subjects. He may not have been an ideal Sikh, but he was a great leader whom deserves alot of respect.

Im not disputing that maharaja ranjit singh was of good character...ofcourse he was...but not everything under his rule was lovey dovey...its not a secret that he kept the akalis far away from his court...and he rather trusted non sikhs over his own bretheren...if he had given the akalis more influence in his durbar..then their would still be a raj today...as they would never of allowed the dogras to get close to power...

never mind though..whats done is done...learn from the past concentrate on the future...
