No its not wrong, the bhagat lives in peace amongst the chaos. One way to test yourself is to go out and stay in balance throughout all the Kal you come across and recognise that God is everything and everyone-

He is the couple on the dance floor dancing dirty

He is the drunk teenager falling about

He is the alcohol and the glass

Remain calm and content throughout the night but observe what is going on around you from a detached(God is detachment)and take lessons from what God is showing you.

Everything around you at your prom is simply him teaching you lessons to bring you closer to him, whether you accept and listen to those lessons is up to you.

Remember it is currently the darkest time, not just age, known to mankind so do not be fooled by the imagery of merrymaking, the magority of people around you will be no less than demonic as they do not remmber od, the Truth.

Kalyug is hell- hell is a state of mind/psychology so the people who make it kalyug must be demons.

Don't go full stop!

Whether you amrithdaree or not.

Whether you drink or not don't go. You shouldn't be going where alcohol is going to be served.

The songs that will be plated are most likely going to be lustful, all about gf and bf abs relationships.

If you are thinking but, "oh I'm just going with my friends as this will be the last time were together".

Forget it, you can always do your own thing with your friend without a pron/disco.

If you want to walk on the path of sikhi or take amrit eventually trust me don't go.

I'm so glad I didn't go to mine. I wasn't amrithdaree at that time but even tho at that time I wasn't thinking about taking amrit some time soon, I knew it wasn't the 'sikh' thing to do.

And I'm still glad I didn't go, that one event could have made me walk in a different direction. Don't add unnecessary experiences in your life.

Trust me just forget it.

School prom and discos don't have alcohol. When i wasn't into Sikhi i was asked to winter formal in 10th grade and was a bit shocked to see what went on. I actually sat down the entire time and never went again lol. I've been to dances in 7th/8th grade but those were innocent, as you get older you realize this leads on to other things so it really isn't innocent.

You shouldn't go to be honest because it's easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing. I can't say whether to not be friends with them but what i will say is keep a line and follow it. They will respect you as well for it.

I think you could go if you are sure there will be no alcohol there. Practicing sikhi doesn't mean you can't be social and go to social outings. But you have to be aware that amritdhari's should not be going to places where liquor is being served, if you can be sure of this then you should go and be with your friends and colleagues because you will never graduate again! Just make sure this event also doesnt lead to any lustful activites.

I can't believe some of the people's responses.

Regardless of alcohol, you shoudlnt go. There are other ways of socialising. Lustful music will be played, girls and guys will be dancing together and girls will be all tarted up. Sorry if I offended anybody but it's the truth.

If u can't imagine Siri Guru Granth Sahib being taking to places like that then neither should we!!

Although it does unfortunately happen sometimes it shouldn't.

Go ask a wise elderly gursikh this question they will also tell you not to go and why.

No point asking on this forum.

Some people may be at that stage where they can completely shut themselves off from the world, that is great and ultimately is the aim.

However, you do not take into account that there are other people who are on many different levels of spirituality. Guru Sahib was also amritdhari. Does that mean you have to take amrit straight away? You should work to it, but you cannot suddenly become that sort of person. A great mahapursh once said about someone who came to them for blessings that no matter what in this life, this guy will not be able to do naam kamai to the extent that one might say we should. It was not written in his destiny (obviously, there were still good things he could do, such as good deeds, some seva and some mediation).

What I'm saying is, everybody's journey is different and requires different strategies to adapt to this life. By telling people to repress and shut themselves off from the world, like how so many people do these days can lead to psychological problems and resent. Repressing things can turn people into weirdos, I have seen it happen.

To the OP, do what your heart is telling you to do. You are still young. By going, you will see what may be wrong with it (because even I see that it can be a shambles) but at least you will then know, and would have experienced it yourself. If you don't go, you will never know what the fuss was about.
