He did admittedly sing some dodgy lyrics, but one dhaarmik geet tune of his sticks to my mind: "Sun Sarkaar Ni Panjaab Vich Khalsae Da Raaj Aagiya". Released at the top of Punjab Police tyranny on Sikhs in the '80's, I'm told by elders that it galvanised the Punjabi/Sikh youth against the oppression they were facing. Singing such a Pro-Khalistani song at the time was very risky for his own personal life - credit where credit's due.

The guy was a fantastic singer and a great writer. His style of singing will always be remembered and the lyrics will never be forgotten. May be Punjabi youth of the west will never understand his lyrics because half of the youth have no clue on how to speak Punjabi. To all saying he was not a Sikh, well majority who keep the Sikh identity may not be considered a Sikh because of your attitude, so keep the negative opinions to yourself and have some respect.

Great man and great Kaylakaar...

I’ve been fan of his since 96, while on holiday in canda I brought on of his cassettes.

His made many darmick albums for Sikhs, in the 80s he sang controversial songs one even about Indra Ghandi, called “Gundi Run Kar de Sardaree”

One his most famous is his Bhanda Singh Bhadur Album.

I don't know whether this is appropriate to post but I think the managers and the industry itself ruins such artists with alcoholism and even sometimes with drugs.

I think the reality is much more sad than the average person can ever know. They have utmost respect for Sikhi but due to substance abuse that is possibly promoted by managers/industry (to more easily control the singer(s)) they have downfalls.

Maybe i'm just over thinking and making an excuse for them though, i'm not sure.
