Looked at their website, and they look more and more like cultists. For instance, they use their history page as just describing themselves as people who did seva in imitation of Bhai Kanhayya. There is no information since then about them. Further more, they're code of conduct in order to become a sewapanthi, lists something about a lineage back to the guru. They also state that sewapanthis always eat together at langar time, but that's a pretty stuipd rule, since everyone is supposed to eat together at langar time, unless they are reffering to seperating themselves.

looks like a cult, dera baba thing. i belive it is anti panthic.

an extract of there site reads:

Firstly meditating upon Aatam Dev

Nirmal Jot, of Sat Chit Anand Svaroop

Then I bow to the lotus feet of Ishtadev

SatGuru Maharaj, Dasaan Patshahian di Jot

Finally I offer salutations to Gurdev

Baba Sher Singh ji, under whose guidance

All efforts blossom forth

a sikh meditates on gurmanta, "waheguroo" not devies or anything else. there is no Ishtadev the only guru is Guru Granth Sahib Maharaj.

I dont like it one bit. stinks of something fishy

RSingh, Just because a website which has terminology which you have never heard before, doesnt make it fishy

Ataamdev is Akaal Purakh Vaheguroo

Ishtdev is our Gurus, from Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Nirankar to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj

Gurdev is your teacher, whether it be raag teacher, santhiya teacher, shastar vidiya teacher

Ataamdev cannot be surpased, nor can Ishtdev, but it is the duty of the Gurdev to make their students surpass them

ms514 that was a great link, here is what it says.

Sat Sri Akal:

Some excerpts for consumption, for those who do not have time to read the entire website:

"the Khalsa included within itself a diversity of identities, not all shastardhari."

I see...the Khalsa were started with the Panj Pyare. They ARE the foundation of the Khalsa. So what Khalsa is this website referring to?

"Eventually this statement made its way back to Guru ji who summoned Bhai Kanhayya to his darbar. When Bhai Kanhayya again repeated his answer, Guru ji ordered others to remove the sword from him, explaining that he is fulfilling the function allotted to him by his father Guru Tegh Bahadur. He then embraced Bhai Kanhayya."

One may ask why Guru Sahib, who wrote of the high status of weaponry (even dedicated an entire composition to it) would even order such a thing...is one who carries Shastars not able to do sewa as well?

"This was text written between 1728 and 1740 by Bhai Sehaj Ram. Hence Sewapanthis historically have maintained an almost Jain-like reverence for life."

What does the Guru Granth Sahib say about Jains again?

Picture of Sriman 108 Mahant Baba Sahib Dyal Ji Sewapanthi and the cows - the imagery in the picture is interesting, no?

"Develop the wealth of the Devi. Reject the wealth of demons. Develop firmness in the Devi’s wealths..."

Who is this Devi and why should a Sikh care about the Devi? Shall we seek the wealth of the Devi, or beseech the Almighty for

the Supreme wealth?

"The company of women (implying lustfulness) destroys that sadhus’ righteousness, karma, mind and body. Do not sit in their company."

Very Jain-like, and AGAINST the Guru Sahiban's Gurbani and life's actions.

"A Sewapanthi sadhu therefore cannot be grishti (householder or married)."

See above comment.

"[Referring to a "type" of Sewapanthi]Sehajdhari; early Sewapanthis kept this roop also while wearing a topi. "

Can a Sikh ever be with a hat/topi? Is there not something in the Rehatnamas that states explicitly that wearing a topi for a Sikh is one easy way to invite suffering?

"Guru ji rewarded him with a topi for his seva ..."

See above.

"Generally murtis are not installed in such centres, although samadhs of previous Mahants often are."

Idol worship and revered places of dead Mahants. Is this Gurmat?

"The consequences of the implementation of the Act were such that either the samparday in question conformed to the new reform ideology underpinning the new organisation of the SGPC or face having the institution taken away from them."

Always love this SGPC attack. Perhaps a glance at history would reveal that many of the Mahants in control of the historical institutions also kept idols of Hindu dieties alongside. Also, the historical Gurudwaras were not safe places to visit for women, for fear of harassment or worse. the movement of the SGPC was to remove these Mahants (who were supported by the British) and their corrupt behavior and presence from the Gurudwaras.
