In my own home town the Gurdwara commitee have abandoned Gurmat Parchar , the Sangat are not aware of Sikhi Sidhants. This is a major factor in "lack of Sikhi knowledge". Once there exists "lack of Sikhi knowledge" then low esteem , drugs , anti social bahaviour , and alcoholism etc. will take root.

The low self-esteem issue is one that can be applied to any youth demographic of any culture, race and religion anywhere. Growing up invariably throws up self-esteem issues and I don't think it's limited to just Sikhs. However, as Sikhs we must look at why Sikh youngsters face the unique challenges and problems that can be grouped under this self-esteem category.

As MokhamSingh Ji stated above, the key is to educate and inform, and some of these problems may not reach the levels of severity they are currently at.

Like Mokham Singh Paji said the solutions are there in front us - the issue is implementing them in our actions in our own lives by our individual own drops of effort towards our collective ocean of solutions. If our generation does it's bit, we can yet overcome these problems. Of course, when we work collectively as a Sangat change can be accelerated.

Gareeb'ah di Seva (regardless of their religion)

Ensuring Education for all + at least basic knowledge of the spiritual precepts of Sikhi

Once youth realise how lucky they are they will never fall into depression or drugs. If we have the blessing of sight, hearing and physical mobility etc what can they get depressed about ... when the Singhs+Singhni'ah of old remained in such Chardi Kala against overwhelming problems. In the Diaspora, whatever skills we have let's try to the best of our ability and time to avail those to others within the community who need our help or guidance. Having our own financial standing is crucial to being able to help others if we are not at the "coal face" as sewadars of Khalsa Aid and Seva84 directly are, for example. Investment in appreciating assets (like stocks or real estate) are key (instead of the Punjabi preference for pouring money into depreciating assets like cars) and provided we make investments for non-materialistic reasons we can achieve on a smaller level the type of achievements for society that the Bill Gates Foundation and George Soros have done, as two examples.

Tackling the drugs(+alcohol) menace in Punjab (note outside of Punjab this would come under gareeba di seva)

>On this front a little bit of targetted violence would not go astray if all other peaceful means at dissuasion fail. Anybody dealing drugs really ought to be beaten down + put out of business if the Punjab Police won't do it (as an alternative to the more hot-headed folks doing things like Vienna). Alcohol won't be so easy to eradicate but the culture of acceptability of daru in music to be tackled by lobbying the music industry to not promote it and licenses for alcohol sale to be restricted in the same way they do in Dubai.

Tackling Female Infanticide if we want to even call ourselves Sikh (let alone GurSikh)

Lack of Unity

PS: to the UK Sangat on here ... it's great how Sikh Channel have completed 3years (though personally I'd like to see Sikh Channel + Sangat TV merge ... thereby using the excess direct debit income from a combined channel towards charitable organisations) and a certain Mr Bal deserves great credit and respect for what he established on that front. However, we need to unitedly and politely get a message across to him (via Sikh Channel or Sikh Council) that the good work by Sikh television is being undone in the youth demographic by the "sister" station when it comes to repeated references of alcohol and caste on records by a Birmingham record label owned by Muslim Jatts which he is partnered with and which controls a significant percentage of the most famous Bhangra artists.
