Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today condemned the Uttarakhand Government for preventing a Sikh jatha from entering Gurdwara Gyan Goddari at Haridwar and arresting its members at the state border yesterday.

He also lashed out at the Congress for its “old habit” of interfering in the religious affairs of the Sikhs.

“On the one hand, the Congress government in Delhi is doing injustice to the Sikhs by not conducting the Delhi Gurdwara Sikh Management Committee elections, on the other the Congress government in Uttarakhand has hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs by arresting devotees,” said Badal, who is on a two-day “sangat darshan” tour of his Lambi Assembly constituency.

He further said the religious sentiments of all sects must be respected, as the Constitution advocated adopting a secular approach.

On the threats made by Pakistan fundamentalists after Ajmal Kasab’s execution, Badal said the state government had made necessary security arrangements and there was no threat to peace in the state.

Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has condemned the arrest of the members of the Sikh jatha that was on its way to pay obeisance at the site of the demolished Gurdwara Gyan Godhri near Har-ki-Pauri in Haridwar. SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said, here today, that every person had the right to observe his religious rights. The arrest of the Sikh youths who were peacefully proceeding towards the historic shrine was highly condemnable.

Makkar said that the people as well as the state government had not denied that Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru, had visited the place at Har-ki-Pauri where a gurdwara was established around 450 years ago. He said that their main demand was that the shrine be rebuilt keeping in view the sentiments of the Sikhs living there.

The SGPC chief said that he would soon seek an appointment with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna to resolve the issue. He said he would also involve the local community leaders including local MLA Harbhajan Singh Cheema in the talks so that the shrine could be rebuilt as early as possible.

Yes we should be vigilant being played from both sides. But you also need to man up and give credit where its due. Badal was right in this instance slamming gov't officials from UP for doing this. I think in this instance, we should back him fully.

Sikhs abroad and arm chair critics need to realize in India when it comes to politicians there is no good and bad options, there is only bad and worst..!!! with that perception and level of expectations in your mind- you need to decide which one does maximum damage to sikhs? Without any question, congress are worst than badal who is bad when it comes to sikhs interest!!...so lets be smart- lets give credit where its due and play proxy journalism/political activism war if we have to..!!

Give credit to Badal, What planet are you on? But then again he did get his mate Joginder Singh Vedanti to pardon Santa Singh and take in the Udasis as Sikhs. So its all good isn't it Brother. Kudos to Mr Parkash SINGH "Badal" Dhillon - Fukir-e-Kaum....

You can back him all you like, infact join his party and donate your money to him.

It was simranjit singh maan who won a court case in India which allowed the Sikhs to freely to demand Khalistan, This was opposed by Badal and of course the jathedhars and various sikh organisations were meditating as usual.

Not only Badal, but Makkar too made a similar statement. It would be nice if they follow it up this time. The issue of Gurdwara Gian Goddree has been raised by Gurcharan Singh Babbar many times before with Jathedar Akal Takht , SGPC and DSGMC but none of them has taken the issue seriously with the Uttarakhand Government . Now it is a Congress Party government in Uttrakhand. So, Badal , Makkar and Akal takht all are issuing these statements. Even last year (in year 2011) a large group which included the same people (Gurbachan Singh Babar lead by Baljeet Singh Dadduwal,) also tried to enter Uttarakhand through UP but stopped and arrested taken back and released in Punjab. Then the government in Uttarakhand was of BJP party. There were no such statements by Badal, Makkar, or the Jathedar of Akal Takht. Gurbachan Singh Babbar brought up this issue many times during the time when the government in Punjab was of Badal-BJP and the Uttarakhand government was BJP. But nothing happened- not even any statement.

So let us not get too carried away thinking Badal or Makkar is

Veer it wasn't directed at you personally but "arm chair" remark comes from general perception of badal here. Fine he is cancer to sikhi, no one is disputing that bro as i said earlier one has to pick bad from worst, you won't find good politician in India..!!

I mean who are we kidding? In the past, didn't we use pakistan/ISI help(weapon supply) with our freedom movement against Indira ravan sena during 1980? You think ISI really felt pitty for sikhs and gave them weapons? No ISI is full of fanatics who oppress hindus and sikhs in pakistan. Khalsa fauj knew their ulterior motives, but they still took their game of proxy war...sometimes you gotta look at the bigger picture..wake up to reality guys, in real life its called proxy war...either use proxy technique like we did around 1980's or get crushed..its as simple as that...!!

    • If relationship with Guru is strong, then kanga is done twice a day, and turban should never be taken off or put on like a hat, there is a lot wrong with that as it is against rehit! maryada is to take off every layer of turban/pagh/dumalla individually, and tie fresh turban each time!
    • the whole 'your husband/wife is chosen for you'/sanjog thing is real, it's just that a lot of people end up marrying the wrong person. they did not end up with the person that was meant for them. my friend, you should marry someone who you feel a connection with and love. there are millions of sikh girls, i'm sure you can find someone who aligns with your sensibilities and who you can truthfully say that you love. sikhi does not say anything against love marriages. you can also be in a loveless arranged marriage which is a safe option b/c both families are more inclined to keep the union intact. i was one of those people who was like meh, i guess i'll just get arranged to some sikh. well i finally started dating for the first time this year and i'm getting married to someone that i love and cannot even imagine leaving. i think it's better to have lost & lost than never loved at all. unfortunately, a lot of people confuse love w/ looks & lust. a lot of men go for the fittest girl they can find and think they won the jackpot or something. in reality, your partner should be like an extremely loved best friend. there's a reason why it's a fact that the most stable and long-lasting relationships started as friendships.  i also think a lot of women are petty and divorce over small reasons, but there's other terrible things like high cheating rates as well. that's why the divorce rate in the west is high. be careful out there.
    • andrew tate praises sikhi too & likes sikhs. his brother also donated to sikh families iirc. they just like any "alpha" religion and tbh islam is the most "alpha" in their eyes. islam is very good at promoting that image. but imo a real alpha man doesn't command respect by beating up his wive(s) or forcing them to wear a burqa. a real man will have his woman listen to him w/o raising a hand or his voice, and command respect by being respectful. he leads by example and integrity. that's true masculinity. you get the idea. + yes, it's definitely true that islam is growing rapidly and making massive inroads. strength in numbers + belief will do that. but rlly it's just because of the birth rate. a lot of them are muslim b/c it's their "identity" just like how a lot of young sikhs will say they're "culturally sikh" or whatever. there just aren't billions of sikhs who lambast their identity everywhere and have strict and linear rules like in islam. besides, the reality is that islam and its followers are some of the most morally bankrupt. you can see all the weird trans rules in iran, bacche baazi in afghanistan, visiting brothels, watching p*rn, p*dophilia what goes on behind the scenes in countries like uae & qatar, etc, and come to your conclusions. you can google all the stats yourself and see which countries do the most of these ^.
    • stop associating with hinduism, that's the absolutely worst thing you can do as a sikh. not sure if you noticed but the entire world looks down upon and spits at india & hindus, literally no one respects them and considers them weak and cowardly. literally 1+ billion of them but not perceived as a strong religion commandeering respect.
    • you wrote a whole lot but told us nothing. what exactly did you do wrong to make you feel this way?
