Latest on the Sikh Channel:

Yesterday (1 January 2013) a Gurdwara representative from Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Slough spoke to a couple of Sikh Channel employees and asked why the scroll sent on 23 December had not yet started.

The employees said yesterday the Sikh Channel charge £200 for something to appear on the scroll for a 2-week slot. This is the first time we have heard of such charges. Others who have had something put on the Sikh Channel scroll may wish to comment on their experiences.

Anyway we said there is less than a week to go so let us know what it will cost and we will pay.

We emailed them the scroll again this morning before 9am, although they said yesterday that they already have the scroll. It has still not appeared.

We also sent them this morning the slides for the Promo, sound track and wording for the message to be recorded in Punjabi, we also requested for live coverage on Sunday 6 January - they confirmed they had nothing else booked at the same time. Again they said there would be charges (£700-800, although they may charge slightly less than this) and we said we were willing to pay.

Watch the space if the Sikh Channel will show the scroll, Promo and provide live coverage for Sunday 6 January from Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Slough in return for a sizeable payment/donation?

If the Sikh Channel do not show the scroll, Promo and/or provide live coverage in return for money will we be justified to tell the Sangat in Slough and through other media who will be present about our experiences.

The behaviour to date by the Sikh Channel has been very unprofessional.

Update with the Sikh Channel

Yesterday (2 January 2013) the Gurdwara representative from Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Slough followed up with the Sikh Channel and spoke to Baljinder Singh at the Sikh Channel at around 1pm. He confirmed the scroll was re-received before 9am in the morning and it would be up in about 30 minutes.

Baljinder Singh also confirmed the Promo material had been received and the promo was being worked upon and would be played by the evening or tomorrow (3 January).

Sikh Channel were told the Management Committee at Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Slough were not prepared to pay a single penny to the Sikh Channel, but the local branch of the Sikh Federation (UK) would pay for the scroll, Promo and live coverage from 10am until 1.30pm on Sunday 6 January. Baljinder Singh confirmed the Sikh Channel would provide live coverage between 10am and 1.30pm on Sunday and the bookings had been made.

As far as we are aware the scroll did not appear on the Sikh Channel yesterday, we are not hopeful the Promo will be played today or the Sikh Channel will turn up on Sunday, despite the local branch of the Sikh Federation (UK) agreeing to pay for the scroll, Promo and the live coverage.

There are rumours that certain members of the Management Committee (the anti-Panthic elements) have got to the owner(s) of the Sikh Channel and are stringing along the Panthic elements in the Mangement Committee and local Singhs of the Sikh Federation (UK) who are generally supportive of the media, including the Sikh Channel. This will be the Sikh Channels loss if the owner(s) side with the anti-Panthic elements. There are a number of Sikh Federation (UK) members and supporters in and around Slough who financially support the Sikh Channel and will be extremely disappointed if the Sikh Channel let them down and side with anti-Panthic elements opposed to this Shaheedi programme.

It has been confirmed the owner(s) pulled the scroll yesterday.

Scroll came on Sikh Channel just before 4.30pm, but have dropped any mention of the Sikh Federation (UK). But at least the event is being publicised for our Mahan Shaheeds.

No sign of the Promo. Will be interesting to see if they try and cut out mention of the 'Sikh Federation (UK)' since the Management Committee 'will not be paying the Sikh Channel a single penny' in their own words and local Singhs for the Sikh Federation (UK) were going to make a donation to the Sikh Channel!

The 'Sikh Federation' Promo started on the Sikh Channel around 7pm this evening.

Not surprisingly the Promo dropped all reference to the Sikh Federation (UK), removed images of the speakers and Jagowala Jatha - although they will all be on, but also cut out the last part of the sound track refering to Balwant Singh Rajoana.

The Sikh Channel has received complaints from the local Sikh Federation (UK) branch (who were planning to pay for the Promo) about the misrepresentation by the Sikh Channel to align with anti-Panthic elements in Slough.

The Sikh Channel promised changes tomorrow, but let's see what happens.

What are the local AKJ's doing about the anti panthic elements in the committee and Slough?

AKJ is strong in Slough?!

Initially stage secretary - Jaswant Singh Randhawa was not helpful - said he had cancelled Akhand Paath Sahib Ji.

Pressure was applied from Jatha Singhs from outside Slough and his approach has been to be more supportive of local Federation Singhs.

Jaswant Singh Randhawa will be introducing all speakers on Sunday so his role is crucial.

Librarian - Sarabjit Singh Banur who some say is linked to the Jatha has not been helpful for much of the time, although his role this morning was helpful when Ardaas was done at the Arambh.

Other Jatha Singhs have been totally silent, absent - none were present this morning at the Arambh.

Good thing is the Sangat is very supportive as always!

AKJ OR FED - doesn't matter at all - what matters is SANGAT.

SANGAT IS highest of all.

Sikh Channel have taken the event off the scroll.

Sikh Channel have also not shown the Promo today - showed the shortened version a couple of times last night.

Sikh Channel first did nothing for about 10 days, despite several requests and promises.

The Sikh Channel then asked for money for the scroll and Promo - local Sikh Federation (UK) Singhs agreed to pay (the local Gurdwara said they would not pay a penny).

Scroll (excluding all references to the Sikh Federation (UK) started at around 4.30pm yesterday, but has not been shown today). Promo also cut out all references to the Sikh Federation (UK) and speakers/Jagowale Jatha.

There are a number of local Sikh Federation (UK) sevadars in Slough who have direct debits set up for the Sikh Channel and were also to donate £500 to the Sikh Channel on Sunday. The actions of the Sikh Channel now mean this donation is unlikely to happen, some of the Singhs have said they will need to think about their direct debits.

The Sikh Channel has shown its true colours and sided with the anti-Panthic elements in Slough.
