Can you work with meat/ alcohol etc after Amritdari?

Hi,

My dad would like to take Amrit, but he works in a local supermarket on the till. So he is in touch with meat alcohol etc. Would he have to quit his job when he takes Amrit?

I was amritdhari(going for pesh in April with my wife) and I'm involved in my family's food & beverage business. I handle meat on a daily basis and I suppose it's fine, as long as you don't consume it. It doesn't hurt or affect my conscience in any way so it's alright to me. Amrit should also not be a hindrance to your father's job, as i suppose he's leading a decent and honest living :-)

Just remember , do not take food from People who eat meat or alcohol

Meat - you are not sure they eat jhatka right? all christian or muslims eat halal. do not except food from them it becomes kutha .

Alcohol - i am not so sure

Meat is not mandatory for Sikhs, but it depends on the SIkh himself. Only Jhatka is allowed, but it is ok. Just don´t consume it.

Instead of quitting his job, and I don't know how feasible this might be, but perhaps he could ask to move departments... so he works on produce (fruit and veg section) or clothing?

Technically I'm patit now. I was blessed with Amrit about 7 years ago but was drafted for national service soon after. Ended up as a sniper and lost my rehit. Ended up commiting all the bujjer kurehits. Got Married soon after but my wife was into bahmanvaad... I too started following bipran ki reet. Lost my sikhi totally. Must've been some good Karam and maharaj kirpa which brought me back to sikhi. Am currently striving to maintain my rehit and my wife has agreed to be blessed with Amrit also. Maharaj kirpa kare.
