Counting is not part of sikhi.

What's the point doing x amount of jap if your dhian is elsewhere ??



i have a question which one should be jaaped more moool mantar or gurmantar ...... what have sants said

Is sikhi all about what the sants say ???

Well said Lucky Singh, if a person wanted to fully understand the Mool Mantar or Gurmantar, correctly even once, a life time would not be enough, but we seem to think quantity as opposed to quality.

how will one chant ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ and become ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ

You have to live according to gurmat

ਓਨਿ ਵੈਰੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਸਭ ਨਾਲਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥

Oun Vairee Mithr Sam Keethiaa Sabh Naal Subhaaee ||

ओनि वैरी मित्र सम कीतिआ सभ नालि सुभाई ॥

He looks alike upon enemy and friend, and wishes well to all.

Simran by deeds is needed i.e. applying gurmat to daily life will make you ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ gurmukh.

Gurmanter is waheguru

Mool mater is Ik onakaar to nanak hosi bhi sach

No difference.....both are the same

sants never say anything they just ask to you do paath and do simran, sewa and ardas, whichever your mind relates to or tune to...some people find meditating on "waheguru" shabad easy and others on mool manter or any other path

Like during shaheedi of Guru Teg bahadur ji

BHai Mati das ji was meditating on Japji sahib path, bhai sati das ji on mool manter and Bhai Dyal das ji on waheguru manter......(sangat please correct if i messed up)...mean to say that all 3 shahheds were meditating on God name just differently and went to sachkhand......

ਜੈਸੇ ਖਾਂਡ ਖਾਂਡ ਕਹੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਮੀਠਾ ਹੋਇ ਜਬ ਲਗ ਜੀਭ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਖਾਂਡੁ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਈਐ ।

Jaisay Khaand Khaand Kahai Moukhi Nahee Meetthaa Hoi , Jab Lag Jeebh Svaad Khaandu Naheen Khaaeeai ।

जैसे खांड खांड कहै मुखि नही मीठा होइ जब लग जीभ स्वाद खांडु नहीं खाईऐ ।

Just as by saying sugar, sugar, one cannot feel sweet taste of sugar in the mouth. Unless sugar is placed on the tongue, it cannot feel its taste.

ਜੈਸੇ ਰਾਤ ਅੰਧੇਰੀ ਮੈ ਦੀਪਕ ਦੀਪਕ ਕਹੈ ਤਿਮਰ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜਬ ਲਗ ਨ ਜਰਾਈਐ ।

Jaisay Raat Andhayree Mai Deepak Deepak Kahai , Timar N Jaaee Jab Lag N Jaraaeeai ।

जैसे रात अंधेरी मै दीपक दीपक कहै तिमर न जाई जब लग न जराईऐ ।

In a dark night, saying lamp, lamp does not dispel darkness unless lamp is lit.

ਜੈਸੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਹੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੂੰ ਨ ਹੋਤ ਕਛੁ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ।

Jaisay Giaan Giaan Kahai Giaan Hoon N Hot Kachhu , Jab Lagu Gur Giaan Antari N Paaeeai ।

जैसे गिआन गिआन कहै गिआन हूं न होत कछु जब लगु गुर गिआन अंतरि न पाईऐ ।

Just by saying Gian (Knowledge) again and again, knowledge cannot be obtained. It can only be acquired by lodging His name in the heart.

ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੂ ਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੫੪੨॥

Taisay Gur Dhiaan Kahai Gur Dhiaan Hoo N Paavata , Jab Lagu Gur Daras Jaai N Samaaeeai ॥542॥

तैसे गुर धिआन कहै गुर धिआन हू न पावत जब लगु गुर दरस जाइ न समाईऐ ॥५४२॥

Similarly just repeatedly asking for a glimpse of True Guru, one cannot acquire contemplation of the True Guru. This is possible only when one engrosses oneself up to the soul in the ardent desire of a glimpse of the True Guru. (542)
