Quebec Soccer Federation suspended over turban ban

The Canadian Soccer Association says it has suspended a provincial association over its refusal to let turban-wearing children play.

The organization says it was forced to take action because the Quebec Soccer Federation showed no sign of overturning its decision to restrict turban-wearing Sikhs from the pitch.

Quebecs federation says its concerned about safety and points out that the rules of the world governing body, FIFA, dont specifically allow turbans.

Critics of the Quebec decision point out that FIFAs rules dont explicitly ban turbans, either.

The Canadian association says it will lift the suspension once it has proof the Quebec federation has revoked the ban.

Don't think there's anything wrong with the language requirement. Whenever I visit Punjab I wish there was a law against the Hindi speakers there.

But the French language thingy is nothing new. Its been a feature of all French speaking countries, and especially France, for many centuries now. Scholars say this is best understood by looking at Paris and London. The way that Paris and London has developed over the centuries mirrors the development of the French and English languages. Paris, not that long ago, under Housemann, knocked down all its old buildings in the centre of Paris and decided to replace them with new, uniform, aesthetically pleasing building which, although extremely beautiful all look the same. The French language mirrors this. It thinks of itself as something of beauty that shouldn't be tinkered with, especially by vile words of the rustic english language. London on the other hand, developed in a haphazard way. The only city on earth where on the same street you find a victorian pub, roman baths, Norman cathedral, Edwardian villa, stone age pagan stones, art deco apartment block, gothic chapel and ultra modern skyscraper. London has this in street after street. The English language developed in the same way that London did. Without caring one way or the other it absorbed foreign words from various languages and just carried on conquering the world. There are of course absurdities. For example if you're on a train in England and you want a sandwich you have to make your way to 'The Buffet bar', whereas if you're on a train in France and you want a sandwich, you must make your way to 'Le snack bar' :biggrin2:

It is a totally natural reaction for France and Quebec to hold on to it's language dearly. Its on it's last legs. Recently, a couple of the francofone African countries decided to abandon the French language, embrace English and join the Commonwealth instead. French, at he moment, is like a cornered rat fighting in defence mode. Hence reactions such as the language requirement and racist rules.

I thank quebec soccer federation for providing sikhs and their identity free press advertisement, its all over the news.. there is definitely some divine energy (sri guru gobind singh ji grace)

behind where sikhs keep coming back in the news as victims (as at this case we are truly discriminated against) and by that we naturally win public opnion and there is difinitely some divine energy that awareness regarding sikhs keep increasing in canada and else where..!!..when this news first broke out, there were some of negative comments but after media repeatedly this story in media outlet and after canadian soccer association support sikhs playing soccer in turban and ban quebec soccer association public opinion changed significantly for positive...

quebec i please beg your arrogrant leaders please continue to be arrogrant, racist and ignorant so people can see true color of quebec right wing franchophones and so that sikhs and turban keep getting free advertisement in the media on the expense of arrogrant quebec leaders..hehehe.....hahah..this is too hilarious...lol

Request to all canadians sikhs- lets teach our kids french along with english and beat these right wing francophones in their own game and show them- we are more integrated in canada than quebec right wing francophones nationalist idiots :D :D

Interestingly this ban from small organization such as quebec soccer federation has worked in our advantage in many ways- free advertisement of sikhs and turban, sikhs contributions, gives 70% anglophones (english speaking canadians) using this issue as token or agenda to score points against fascist francophones hence comments and overall blogs support sikhs turban are all over media not only because politicians from all party support turban in soccer this story has picked up monemtum and its all over media .....!!

Whichever way we look at this issue, fateh belongs to sikhs in canada..!! Anand mangal..more awareness the better..!!
