CHANDIGARH: An unidentified Sikh man, who allegedly groped and kissed a female train co-passenger at a train station in Vancouver, has left both Canadian and Indian police on his trail.

The incident dates back to September 23 when the woman was approached by the man at the 22nd Street SkyTrain station in British Columbia, the westernmost province of Canada.

Canada's New Westminster police have now sought public help and assistance from Indian authorities, including both Union ministry of external affairs, and Punjab and Delhi governments.

"The suspect is an older South Asian man with a white or grey beard," the New Westminister police department note said.

"The man complimented the woman on her looks and began following her towards the elevator at the station," it added.

According to the note, the Sikh man continued to follow the woman on the station platform, grabbing her and asking for personal information, including her name and phone number.

He boarded the elevator with the woman and, once inside, allegedly groped her, the note said.

The Candian Police have also uploaded the picture of the stalker on their website.

There are over 4 lakh Sikhs in Canada, who account for 1.4 per cent of the country's population.

The incident also forced two students in Canada to launch a website that generated thousands of page views and dozens of comments from mostly female commuters who say they've been harassed and assaulted by men on public transport vehicles, Canada's 'The Province' reported.

Canada's Transit police have now launched an education campaign to encourage women to report sexual assault in response to this and other growing number of such incidents on buses and SkyTrain.

The Times of India is well known to pick out negative stories about Sikhs from the foreign press and to highlight them, The news may be important in Canada but how relevant is it in India, don't they have enough rapes to report that they need to pick up a story of a dirty old man from Canada?
