What Have We Learnt From 1984?

I don't want to create a rift, but just want to highlight a small story over here.

We just visited a friend who happens to be a very prominent member of one of the most famous Kirtaani Jatha in UK (better not to name), with a choclate box for their kids. With a lot of suspicion, he saw the Choclate Box up and down 3-4 times, and then threw it away outside his home, telling me take it away from here. I asked what happened VeerJee - He said we are Sache Suche Sikhs, we don't eat Eggs, these choclates may have trace of eggs.

I had observed some sort of abrupt behaviour in the past as well, which we used to ignore giving deep respect to the highly religious nature of the family, but an insult of such a sort was an extreme in itself, and from this incident onwards we distanced ourselves from the family ... We also observed other families in the same group during Keertan Smagams look upon normal Sikh folks such as myself (although I am full Keshdhari, but tie beard) as probably 2nd grade or 3rd grade Sikhs.

Bhul Chuk Maaf - but please advise me kidan aaugi UNITY?

I am so delighted that SFJ has joined hands with European Sikh organisations, this UNITY has helped, a step which most of us were missing, one of my friends tried to raise the same point to petition UNO (joining hands with SFJ) in a SikhChannel LIVE program some 4 years earlier but an uneducated presenter (probably Jaswinder his name, if I am not wrong), cut his comments again and again, and after the LIVE show, passed insulting comments to him - Kithon aa gaya BHAPA.

Kidaan aaugi UNITY?

Nice article...Really the problem of hypocrisy in sikhs f****s these days.....

I hate when sikh people whether amritdhari/non amritdhari call themselves with hindu caste names rather than Singh/kaur.

I hate when i see Gurudwaras are based on caste systems..

I hate when any mona guy says only tenth guru ordered to keep kesh and rest of them did not. The truth is that to follow sikhi ,its common sense we accept natural form of body.

I hate when any sikh girl says "Guru nanak said "there is no hindu or musalman"... so she can marry wherever she wants to.but the truth is that she is not deriving the exact meaning why did Guru nanak say like that. .

I hate when I see sikhs going to bow down to their Gotras (jethere)..

and the thing that we hide mostly from the world is that The foundation of sikhi was done by lower caste people....But no sorry we can't tell the truth because We are jatts ,,we are khatris,,we are ramagardhias,,we are rajputs.... "ae ta boht bejti waali gal a saade lyi ki asi lokaan nu das nai sakde kyunki saade lokaan da social status kharab hunda na.."..

Lokaan de dimaag cg jado tusi ae gal itha deni ke jatt te khatri nu chad ke koi sikh nai hunda te swaa kise ne sikhi nu accept krna.....

Someone said truly ""BAAJAN WAALE GURU DIYAN KOI REESA NAI KAR SAKDA>"""

and these things can never stop as long as..we dont become honest to our GURUS unity can never come ........

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
