The importance of the Turban in Sikhism is immense. Not only does it cover the hair, it is one of the most important identifying symbols of Sikhism. A Turban is supposed to be tied everyday not only as a form of respect but also to keep it looking fresh and tidy thereby enhancing the personality of the wearer.

Unfortunately, in these impressionable times, many Sikhs either try to avoid tying the Turban or simply try to get away from tying it by wearing caps. Also many people tie the Turban once and keep wearing it for a long period like a cap.

Both methods inherently are against the spirit and essence of the Turban as ordained by our Gurus and should be avoided.

Wearing cap as fashio etc. is getting popular in youth. Well Youth of rich parents and so called youth of lower middle class families sikh boys are wearing it more than the average middle class sikh youth.

From personal experience : I used to wear a winter cap in the beginning of this year from January till April. One day an American friend of mine pulled it off my head, as a joke. I felt really embarassed as I was growing my hair then and it felt weird to have my head uncovered, even though it was for a few seconds. I felt "If I had a dastaar on my head, no one would have had the courage to even touch it!" That was the very first time I felt the need for dastaar. Gurujee has given us such a priceless crown. We should wear it with dignity always!!
